A: Light orange with some haze to it and a decent bhead forming from the pour. Nothing exciting here.
S: Ahhh, that smells good! Acidic fruit qualities play with oak charcteristics and some fruit sweetness. Notes of red wine vinegar complement.
T: Acidic vinegar in front softened by a faint fruit sweetness and a woody richness. Strong characteristics but nothing out of place or overwhelming. Delicious.
M: Heavier than expected, but not to its deteriment. Good carbonation keeps this fresh.
O: Damn nice. Just hitting on all cylinders (with a so-so appearance). Officially ISO, and thanks Oregonhopmonster for sharing this one in our very secure ghetto-suite/apartment!

375mL bottle for my 2000th beer. Big thanks to Doodler for this big time want.

A: Fizzy clear gold. No head at all, though. Great color, pretty much still in every other aspect, like wine.

N: Super sour lactic acid. Apricots and peaches. Vinegar. Some residual sugar. Raspberry and acetone. Oak. Quite nice if not overly complex.

T: Really shines here, unlike the nose. Lots of peaches still. Apricots and lemons. A good balancing sweetness which seems to be a hallmark of American Wilds. Oak is adding a nice balance. Unlike the sharp nose, this has a pleasant sour quality to it.

M: Crisp and light on the tongue. This is exactly what I want from American Wilds. Not the heavy dense liquid I'm so often getting.

O: A shining example of the style, though I wish the nose had held up like the body. I'm still thrilled to have tried this.

Notes taken from 9/29 from the craziest bottle share that i have ever been a part of. Thanks so much to the NYC and hoboken crew for letting me participate in this incredible day of drinking long time wants and insanity.

Thanks kindly to Mark99 for sharing. Have had this once before (thanks to suitcase jon for that one, but looks like i haven't gotten to that part of the notes yet).

a - poured a murky yellow.
s - smells of stinky sour rotten eggs.
t - taste is phenomenal sour eggs with a burst of fruit.
m - mouth is smooth and after a swallow i'm left with a pucker.
o - overall dynamite beer. holding up great. really just phenomenal.

edit - found my notes from the first time i tasted this gem (probably about 6 months to a year earlier) - thanks suitcase for the HUGE bust out!!!

poured a straw yellow with a fizzy head
smells a bit acetone, but nice sour underneath
very fruit sour. tangerines, apricots, oranges.
really amazing. great feel perfect tart. this is amazing. sour meets fruit and they mix perfectly. perfect prickly carb, just a winner.

375 mL bottle to a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Poured from the middle of the bottle, so it's a bit murky. Yellowish orange with no head worth mentioning.

Smell - Awesome acidity with a slight funk. Bright lemon tartness. Only peach because I read that they added peaches. Otherwise, it's mostly lambic-like aromas. Wheat, some funk, and a lot of lemon acidity.

Taste - Genuinely peachy in the taste. Really tart without any vinegar flavors. Lemon and peach fruit flavors. Maybe it does get a little bit vinegary in the finish, but it's not too detracting. Grainy bread malts support, but it's all about the sour.

Mouthfeel - Tart without being puckering. Astringent and dry. Exactly what I'd expect from it.

Overall - Quite good, but the fruit flavor has either faded or didn't come out as much as I'd like. A couple of off flavors that are minor annoyances more than anything.

375ml bottle into a snifter. Enormous thanks to urwithdave for opening this one over the weekend; I never thought I get a crack at this one. Dave continues to break out the whales ever time I see him!

A - Pours a somewhat opaque but luminous golden, with a thin cap across the top. Not much in the way of lacing or retention.

S - Huge stone fruit notes in front, with peach, apricot, and maybe some guava notes. Really tight acetic sourness in there. It's making me mentally prep for the taste -- my mouth is watering.

T - I've never been a huge apricot fan when it comes to eating them, but I absolutely love the flavor in this beer. It's definitely turn-your-face-inside-out sour, kind of like Fou' Foune was. The sweetness that I got in the nose isn't there at all; it's all peaches and apricots and sour. After I finished the glass I considered eating it.

M - Low-ish carbonation, more or less par for the style and complimentary to the beer. It's definitely on the dry side, but the finish is longer than I expected.

O - The only reason this wouldn't get a 5 overall is that my stomach just wouldn't be able to handle it. We had this immediately after a Beatification, and while I was floored by that beer -- this blew us away. It's almost depressing to know that it's retired. Now on to the hunt to find another bottle...

From 03/30/12 notes. Huge huge thanks to BManning for sharing this one; thanks Ben! Has been a huge want of mine for a while. 375ml bottle into a tulip.

a - Pours a clear, transparent golden color with one inch of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sour raspberries, tart cherries, and sour dark fruits. Also some oak, wine, peaches, funk, earthy notes, and acidity. Awesome nose, was surprised how much sour fruit there was still.

t - Tastes or sour raspberries and cherries, tart dark fruity malts, vinegar, light funk, oak, lemon, and wine. Taste is super sour, really awesome again.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. A little more carbonation and this would be great. Acidic and sour body.

o - Overall I thought this was an amazing sour; this is probably the best beer I've had from CL so far, and that is saying something. A ton of super sour dark fruits and easy to drink. Definitely going to be going to this release if they re-release it. Would give it a tiny edge on Rosso E Marrone, and put it on par with cDc for me. Top notch

Bottle shared by bmanning at a recent tasting, thanks, served in a tulip. Beer is yellow and mostly clear with a thin head of small bubbles, no lacing, low retention, moderate carbonation.

Aroma is bright, succinic and mildly acetic with a strong peach flavor.

Beer is thin and quite bright on the palate, very sour, tart in the corners, lactic is light in this one but there is a strong succinic and fruit flavor with a mild almost vinegary flavor to ti. A very sour beer, a great find and something I'd for sure have again.

The beer is hazy and yellow with a fleeting white head. The aroma is very nice, offering peaches, stone fruits, and a prominent sour/tart character. Fruity, complex, acetic, wonderful. The finish is bold, offering a bit of a vinegary sting. Really tasty beer. Glad I got to try it.
