Love the Bier Stein! If you are in Eugene you have to stop by and experience it. Staff is very knowledgable and the selection is the best, south of Portland. I like the arangement of the beers by region / continents makes it easy to find what you are looking for and to explore in an educated fasion especially if your new too beer. Beer cheese soup is amazing and their panini's are good too. Rotating drafts of great beers that range from local great Eugene and Oregon beers to hard to find imports. The only thing that could be improved is more seating. The Stein is where my journey into great beer started so they will always be my favorite bottle shop & pub.

The Bier Stein is like a night club for beer enthusiasts. It has a loud, busy, atmosphere that is created mostly by people milling around and conversing rather than loud music or TVs. I was down there for the Corvallis Beer Tap Takeover and for a Thursday, the place was packed! Although there was a special event, I did not get the impression that this was out of the ordinary. The service was great, I was super impressed how quickly and efficiently the food runners found the customers despite being only marked by as number in very crowded restaurant. It was the first time I visited the pub in that location, but am very much looking forward to going back.

The atmosphere was very nice, comfortable casual, tables were wood tops with coasters in resin. Beer decor on walls, pool table in back with small patio in front. Quality was above average with a little taken off because there were no towels in Ladies room. Towel dispensers were empty. Clean restaurant and restrooms. It would be nice to have ice tea spoons for the ice tea also. My short handled spoon disappeared when I accidently let go of the handle while stirring. Service was great, you order your food and beer at the counter and then staff brings it to you at your table. Wait staff was friendly, helpful and service was prompt. Their beer selection was above great. They had Pliny on tap, not easy to find these days. The bottle selection was interesting and many hard to find beers were available. Perfect rating is earned. We all had sandwiches but there were also starters, salads and soups on the menu. I had the Love me Tenderloin sandwich which was delicious, others in our group had the Pizzaini, Grilled Cheese, Father Guido Sarducci, Turkey and Bacon. The only one that didn't use the word delicious was the Grilled Cheese. It looked really good but was said to need salt. It had four different cheeses! The french fries were possibly the best I've ever had, I ate every one of them. Value, food was very reasonable while the beer was a little more expensive.

In town for one night while driving from Texas to Everett. Saw their list online and the hotel was only a few blocks away so the girlfriend and I stopped by for dinner. Place was packed for a Tuesday but quickly got a table after ordering. Beer bottle selection was awesome, price slightly high but for the availability extremely worth it. Tap list was acceptable but I didn't see anything amazing. The GF appreciated the wine list and liked the atmosphere which was great for a beer bar. I think his name was David but our bartender who took our order was great. Love talking with other beer people.

What this place lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in many other ways. The staff are top notch and very knowledgeable. Their bottle selection if awesome for Eugene! Once they move into their new digs in early 2013 they'll have 30 taps and even more bottle selection! Can't wait!

This place is equal parts bottleshop and pub, as its name suggests, although it looks more like the former than the latter upon entering. The bottled selection toward the back is very impressive, with most of it housed in a refrigerator that keeps going and going. Unlike some Northwest bottleshops, The Bier Stein does well to stock more than just IPA's. As a sour lover, I'm happy to find a great selection of sours ranging in price and rotating to keep things interesting. They carry all the standards within the big categories, representing local and international breweries. Stuff on tap also rotates well, with a sign teasing upcoming drafts. The food isn't gourmet, but it's solid pub fare. Wonderfully laid-back, The Bier Stein avoids the pretense common among high end bottleshops.

This place fails only in its service which is why I'm writing. I had a bad experience today but I'll try to be fair and objective.
The atmosphere is good. It's too small for the business that they attract and seating can be at a premium. One television playing the relevant sports but this is certainly not a sports bar.
The quality is top notch. Given this is a small town they do an amazing job at getting both quality bottles and drafts. Appx. 10 drafts with one nitro and easily 150 high quality bottles (without counting, just an estimate, probably north of 200). Bottles are available for on site consumption or to go and most drafts are available in pint or half-pint pours. Great feature for those wanting to try several drafts.
Here's where I have my beef. I was fortunate enough to be there the day they got a shipment of Cantillon bottles. I was alerted to the shipment after talking with the bartender. I went and selected several bottles. Then I was told there is a two bottle per person limit. Fine, I've encountered this before. Standard practice of course. I selected my two bottles and returned to my seat at the bar without complaint. I then witnessed a man purchase 5-6 bottles from the same Cantillon shipment of which I was just limited to 2 bottles. I witnessed the purchase, watched the man walk out the bar, questioned the bertender, expressed my concern, and was told that that person spends "a lot of money" in the bar and, thus, was allowed to purchase whatever he wanted. I proclaimed that I've spend a small fortune in the very same establishment and was limited to only 2 bottles but would be happy to purchase more. The bartender stated that it was not her area to make such decisions (as I agree) and would alert the proper manager about my concern. I don't know whether she did or not, but I was never approached about this issue though I stayed at the bar for a good 20 minutes following this exchange. This practice, though not unfamiliar in my beer hunting experiences, is absolutely unacceptable. If there is a bottle limit policy, it shoult be enforced to the letter. If the policy is being bent for special customers or employees, it should not be done in the face of the very loyal customers who are subject and willing to submit to said policy!
Selection is great, see paragraph above. Food is very good. Not cheap but a good value. Sandwiches and salads, nothing fancy but basic stuff done right.
