Essentially, this place is a big open, gutted out factory with a bar and some tables. There is no food, so bring your own. There were 6 beers on tap and several soda's when I was here. The beer was average. The Helles was decent, the Wit was good, the Bock stunk, and the Raspberry Red was OK. Nothing too full of flavor on the beer menu. Service was minimal...basically rope on up to the bar to get your own beer. There is a patio where there is sometimes local entertainment. The whole idea of the place seems an afterthought. There really isn't any fit, finish, or class... a common reflection upon the businesses and community of Alpena, a town which seems to be 20 years in the past.

This place is a lot like a VFW hall. It's a long, open space with collapsable banquet tables often surrounded by women belonging to the Red Hat Society. When I first went there over a year ago, there was a b&w slide show of old Alpena underscored by the Titanic Soundtrack. I could barely tell the difference between their wheat and their pale.
To FSBC's credit, they're trying to change the culture there. They're bringing in musicians and to their brew team they've added an old compatriot of my brew partner. And they've experimented with some small batch brews.
They've got a long way to go, but there's some reason to be optimistic.
There's no real food, unless you count popcorn, which is refilled almost egregiously, but they're cool about your bringing in pizza or Scrabble or whatever. It's like a Texas beergarden in that respect.
I don't go there very often, but the space has potential and I'm hopeful that their product improves over time.

Finally made it to this place and found it very pleasing. Current road work makes it a bit tougher to get there but it is well worth it. This is a large building, tall arched ceilings and lots of windows. Riverfront location with area for outdoor tables, etc. As you enter there are tables to the left, as well as leather chairs, then the bar is directly in front of that. Off to the RIght is a large area featuring more tables. The brewery is visible through windows off this large area. 9 beers available on last visit as well as 4-5 sodas. The quality of the beer was very good and is worth the trip. Food is available nearby. Give this place a shot, you will be glad you did.
