Review of Liquor Store and Beer Cave. (the lounge is for locals, and the beer selection is limited)
It has been a staple of Superior, WI beer sales since I've been drinking beer, but recently they've added a beer cave with the most delightful selection of beers. They still carry the beers you can find all over the Duluth/Superior area (Bells, New Glairus, New Belgium, Summit, ect) but with the addition of a new beer advocate and a new beer cave, they now have Victory, Oskar Blues, Founders, Lagunitas, Southern Tier, and more. It's simply an amazing selection of beer, and all of it is fresh. Thank you, Keyport.

Keyport is the only place to stop when beer shopping in Superior.
They have an impressive selection of American beer plus a fair amount of imports. You can expect to find all of the NG and CW regular lineup, most of the limited releases as well. They are also the only store in the area that carries Founders! Be sure to check out the 'walk-in beer cave', they cram a lot of goodies in there!
The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and make great conversationalists on beer.
Overall this a very well maintained store. The selection and service is top-notch, and I feel that the prices are quite reasonable as well.

In search of booze on a Sunday on a recent visit to Duluth, MN. We stumbled upon this gem. I loaded up my basket with New Glarus, New Belgium, and Green Flash. At the check-out I was told about the beer cave. Needless to say I dropped a couple hundred bucks on beer in a matter of minutes without even touching the 6er selection. Highlights include Smuttynose, The Breury, New Belgium, Ommegang, Lagunitas, Mad Hatter, Founders and Southern Tier and countless others. Well worth the trip and will definitely be on my go-to list from now on when visiting MN. Good pricing and a friendly and helpful staff. I prefer this place to those available in Duluth and well worth seeking out.

The recent reviews here had me more interested in a visit to the Lounge, especially seeing as the Liquor store had been transformed since my last visit into something resembling a Twin Cities suburban Municipal.
I first visited this place while attending the first ever Gitchee Gumi festival, and recall a long, narrow setting filled with a selection of regional brews we couldn't get back in the Twin Cities -- one I considered better-than-average for a Superior retailer at the time.
By contrast, Keyport Liquor today offers very little that anyone making the short drive to Wisconsin would consider out-of-the-ordinary -- large quantities of New Glarus aside. As there were very few items which piqued my interest I settled on a six of Keweenaw (and a Fosters Bitter) to enjoy later at the hotel.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer the place is clean and, in my estimation, very easy to navigate. Service was there for the asking, but remained behind the counter during my visit. Interestingly, the place is home to the largest collections of decorative Liquor decanters I've ever seen (regrettably though, none was for sale), and while this aspect alone (and despite the friendly service at the counter) isn't enough to bring me back, the attached Lounge was.
Dimly-lit and festooned with beer and booze advertising there's also little out of the ordinary here, yet the place is charming in its own right, and peopled with regulars who've only recently begun to cope with the smoking ban. It's also got a fair bit less of the local vibe than your average Superior bar.
We were offered menus but declined, having earlier dined at Duluth's Original Coney Island. A friendly bartender was the highlight here, and as the tap selection was limited we opted for cocktails which proved to be reasonably priced (and with a Bloody Mary worthy of note!) I was tempted by a Leinenkugel's Amber but rightly felt I'd better appreciate the Lift Bridge Brown back at the hotel if I waited a bit : ) We enjoyed a few innings of a Red Sox / Yankees game before bidding our adieus.

I had heard Keyport would be a good place to go to grab some New Glarus and other WI only beers at cheaper WI prices. I was pretty disappointed. While the store was clean and looked reputable, the service sucked. I was in there for at least 10 minutes browsing back and forth along the coolers looking for something interesting, in full sight of the multiple clerks, and no one came to ask me if I needed help.
Also, every beer in the store was refrigerated except some New Glarus. I still had to spend a day in Duluth and then drive back to St. Cloud, and I wasn't going to be buying things just to have them change temp a few times and lose any quality.
Finally, the New Glarus was about the only interesting thing in there. Maybe some South Shore and Lake Superior. Not worth the drive over at all.
Edit May 11th, 2010. Still not impressed with the service. No one came out to help me, and when I asked how much the DFH 120 bottles were the guy pretty much laughed and said "$10 bucks a bottle". The selection was slightly better than last time I was there, but there was some pretty old stuff on the shelf. Prices were pretty good though.

Visited this store when visiting Duluth. My friend was excited knowing that I'm very into craft beer, he had heard from a friend that this store had over 200 microbrews. While this is true, its nothing impressive that a local MGM can't beat. The store has that average liquor store feel to it. The staff is unfriendly and almost awkward. The selection is okay nothing special at all, but prices are pretty good. If you are in this area, it is worth driving the fifteen minutes to Duluth to visit another liquor store.

I went to this store on a work trip to Minnesota. I flew in to Duluth and had my Garmin take me there after finding out that they sold New Glarus there online.
Upon arrival, New Glarus what as soon as you walk in the door. I found some mixed sixers there and also the 750's of the good stuff: Raspberry Tart and Belgian Red. An added bonus, with the purchase of a New Glarus sixer, you also get a free pint glass with purchase. That was very cool.
I grabbed my New Glarus and headed to check out when I saw Dogfish Head 120 and Raisin d'Extra. I bought one of each of these and had to pass on the DFH Fort that was calling my name. So, after a long flight and a short drive, I had spend around $80 on beer with a lot of time to kill in MN.
I found the staff very knowledgable of their selection and willing to help in every way. I will continue to visit these guys in the future when I am in town.

Keyport is a nice and very clean liquor store in Superior, Wisconsin. Selection is above average for the Duluth/Superior area. This is also the only place in the area where you can find Dogfish Head, they usually have 60 and 90 minute IPA's, Midas Touch and occasionally 120 minute IPA. The main reason I like this store so much is because they stock most New Glarus beers, which are in my opinion some of the best beers you can get in the area, and for a very reasonable price. They are also open on sundays, which Minnesota liquor stores are not.

This place is just on the Wisconsin side of the Bong Bridge, and very convienient for Minnesotans on Sunday. It looks averavge on the outside, pretty good for a liquor store in the inside. I have been there twice, and neither time did an employee approach me on the sales floor, I am a browser though so I didn't care. They had a average selection of some good things. I would have liked to see more Wisconsin beers, they had 3-4 types of Viking, but only 2 types of New Glarus. I did find the Cassis Lambic from Lindemans that I have been looking for for a while, so that was pretty cool. All in all a decent place, but not worth going out of your way for.
