Bought this mostly so I could re-use the nice swing top bottle for homebrew. But I do like dunkelweizen.

Light amber color, nice white head & lacing. Slightly fruity aroma with some clove. Taste is slightly bready, fruity, wheaty.

Carbonation is right on, nice head, a touch watery. Little stale tasting, probably not very fresh. Fresh on tap would prolly be a whole different animal.

Overall not bad, but nothing to brag about.

well, i'm not really a fan of any kind of wheat beer, but i really like this one; pours a murky light brown color /w almost no head or lacing; smells like a bakery on hops, lot of yeast aroma; when i tasted it, i was surprised that there was a good malt-wheat balance, very slight hop flavor; very light body, almost too thin, but was balanced; overall i find this a quite drinkable brew.

Pours a hazy light brown beer minimal head formation, particularly for a German wheat beer.

Smell is malty with a whiff of flowery hop scent and toasted malt. Faint raisins and figs aromas.

Taste is faint figs and medium dark malt with a faint sourness in the taste. And that is about it, under flavored.

Mouthfeel is thin.

A disappointing beer here, proof that there are bad wheat beers in Germany too!

Surprisingly dull flat aroma. Eventually malt presents with a slightly nutty quality. Hints of phenols.
Amber of browns and deep reds. Head starts medium height and slowly settles.
Flavor starts with a spicy accent and finishes with a lemony taste. Wheat in the middle. Tangy, yeasty and somewhat tart (like Berliner).
Tartness gives a nice quenching and puckering quality that has a refreshing quality. Softness with carbonation. Medium to thin.
Stylistically this is a tough call. Further,it wasn't really what I had expected. The aroma doesn't match the flavors and there is a dominace of yeast charactistic. Yet, I can see it as a different summer ale that would be worth a sampling now and then.
The flip-top bottle gives me another reason to purchase.

Mine is definately not a dark wheat. The bottle says oberdorfer weiss, premium bavarian wheat malt liquor light in color.

Very hazy light yellow/straw color, lots of little bubbles jumping around. Small all white head on the top. Light wheat notes on nose, hints of lemon. Light sweet malts in front, wheat/grain characteristics. Some banana, lemony notes. Light bodied, quite refreshing, another proverbial summer brew to quench your thirst.

Appearance: Hazy medium brown color with a small tan head, which fades fairly quickly. The lacing is minimal.

Aroma: Caramel and honey notes, with little else, no hop presence that I could detect.

Taste: Opens with a crisp, lightly sweet note of caramel. Midway through the taste, there are quite subdued bitter coffee notes and roasted malt flavors. Finishes with a very mild roasted malt note that lingers on pleasantly. The finish is quite dry. None of the clove and banana flavors mentioned by other reviewers were present.

Mouth feel: Fairly sharp stinging carboation, the body is thin and watery.

Drinkability/notes: A bit underwhelming; there is nothing that is bad about this beer, just that it seems less than it could be. Quite drinkable, but it seems like this was an attempt at a light beer, overall very insubstantial.

Presentation: Packaged in a pint brown glass bottle with a stopper and rubber gasket held in place by a hinged wire mechanism, similar to Grolsch. Served in a standard pint tap glass.

This one pours a dark amber color with a tall head that dissipates quickly and leaves some lacing on the glass.

The aroma has a certain banana and clove smell, most likely from the yeast, as well as wheat and lemon.

The flavor was tart, as a lemon flavor is the first to hit you. The malts follow up with a sweetness that is just a bit too sweet for me, but still nice.

The drinkability was good with this one, but the mouthfeel was a little too thin. Could use a little more thickness and a little more wheat character.

A dark amber/brownish colored ale with a bubbly off white head that dissapears quickly. A nice yeasty clove aroma with a hint of sourness. The mouthfeel is very watery and so is the flavor. You have to strain your tongue to get to the traditional flavors of this style. I could only get hints of a malty sweetness and some clove. Maybe it didn't travel well to the US.
( for the record this was the third bottle from a case, I gave the rest away to friends and Half to a pretty girl who asked me to get this for her based on a memory of trying it 5 years ago while in germany. I tried it three times same result each time.)

I'm besides myself watching me drink a beer and I see puzzled expressions and a left eyebrow uplifted. I'm trying to figure out whether I should celebrate this beer or spit it out. Chocolate coated adhesive bandages and crab apples, it's sour, yet drinkably sour. The fundamental problem with this brew is that it tastes nothing like the other dunkelweissbiers readily available in our market. It's yeast profile seems better suited to a more boozy beverage. In fact it reminds me of the lime vibe I got from the Brouwerij Van Steenberge N.V. line that seems to get better as the ABV rises. Trippy.

One pint swing cap bottle. From the label reads “Premium Bavarian Wheat. Malt Liquor Dark in Color”. This premium beer poured a deep and highly carbonated amber brown. There’s a bit of brown muck on the cap and seal. Looks like yeasty gunk. It did not transfer to the glass. The head was nice and creamy, but quickly fizzled into a film. The aroma has a slightly sweet, slightly tannic nut-like quality to it. I guess you could call it “chewy”. The taste reminds me of some brown ales that I’ve had in the past, more so than any wheat beers I’ve had. This has a normal body of malt and a very light hop flavor. Nice balance. Overall, this is quite drinkable. Although missing is the sour and esters that I associate with other wheat beers, nevertheless this is a very pleasant beer that is easy to drink.

this is a brand new one at my local beer store, and being a big fan of weiss beer, i was really excited to try it out. i flipped open the stopper top bottle to a loud THWAPP. mm
poured out (while it dribbled a bit from the smooth edge of the bottle) a decent reddish brown, clear. tried to get a head, but it was having none of that. so no head, really, except some whitish bubbles near the edge of the brew that do nothing for the appearance.
onwards to the sniffing. yeast. yeasty bread, not much else, unfortunately.
taste goes like: carbonation and yeasty flavours, then a bit of bitterness, or a sour flavour. in fact, i detect a hint of lactic acid in the middle of it.
aftertaste is of malt and perhaps a bit of prunes, very thin feeling. the flavour(s) of this brew don't really do much, very simple and not well balanced as others have said.
mouthfeel, as i mentioned earlier, is lots of carbonation at first, then a thin wateriness as the end. not very good at all.
overall, a poor brew. i never actually felt this way before about a beer, but i don't really feel like finishing it. certainly not a beer i would recommend. it's not terrible or anything, just not very good, there are much cheaper and better brews out there. this was 3.99 for the bottle, i could have bought a really good belgian brew for that.

The pour was a dark copper bordering on a mahogany with a good two finger head that quickly dissapated and left only a trace of lace on top of the beer.

The was very heavy in wheat sourness with a hint of fruit.

The drink started with a sour wheat blast followed by a sweet kick of malt in the middle. The finish was very clean and watery.

This was not a very balanced beer. The flavors didn't seem to mesh smoothly in my mind. It's not a terrible beer, but not a beer I'll seek again.

Pours from the swingtop bottle a hazy brown with a big light tan head that dissipates very quickly. No lace. Smells of rich clove and light banana. Sweet dark wheat malt.

Tastes of light clove but with lots of lemon and other citrus flavors. Some light banana. A bit thin in the mouth, kind of one-dimensional and poorly balanced. Not much flavor overall. It's OK but really not worth the effort to try this one.

Smallish, tan, fizzy head. Dark red-brown clear beer. Hazy on yeast pour. Sweet, caramel nose. Major molasses. Molasses and a little butter in the front. Malty, tangy middle. A little fruit, some cream and a bit of chocolate. More molasses in the finish. A decent, malty beer. Tasty, darkish, but not too deep. More chocolate and grainsiness with the last pour. Not bad.

1 pint, brown, swingtop bottle, opens with a loud "POP". Pours a clear, dark chestnut body that has some orange or garnet hues when held to the light. Offwhite head quickly drops to a collar. The clarity of the body would indicate that this one is filtered. Lace is spotty, at best.

Aroma features an interesting hops/malt balance. Tart lemon, a hint of bananas, and a subtle note of wheat grain and toffee.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, tart on the tongue, and moderately carbonated.

Taste is tart and acidic, with lemony citrus up front. A sweet maltiness emerges as it warms, imparting an unexpected note of toffee that balances the tartness to a small degree. Finish is clean and slightly dry.

A very enjoyable, though unusual, Bavarian wheat ale. I'm not familiar with this style, but it's nicely drinkable and refreshing.

This beer poured like birch beer, except their was no head. The smell was weak and slightly rank of oily malts and water.

Lemon, vitamin C tablets--with notes of orange--dominate the palate, sour enough to make your mouth move. Light aftertaste of alcohol. Medium, oily, crushed tablet powder mouthfeel. In other beers I've had, a lemon/citrus taste has been refreshing, but in this one it wasn't so.

Nice house-Nobody home. my first impression was that this beer had gone bad, not a good sign. Upon reading a bunch of the other reviews I saw that I was not alone. Not sure if this stuff was intended to taste like this or if it ALL went bad. No head retention, nasty sour taste, not pleasant at all. Try somebody else attempt at a dark wheat beer, its bound to be better then this stuff. Nice bottle and label...

Pint sized flip top brown bottle (excellent for reuse in home brewing) No date or description
Aroma: A strong grape smell, like artificial grape, but not in a bad way, more like candy. Some roasted malt notes under the grape.
Appearance: Dark brown with amber edges. The off white head died down to a thin film and collar quickly, but is still actively carbonated. Left the slightest tidemarks as lace.
Flavor: The almost lambic sour finish defines the taste. There is also some banana and bubblegum flavors in the background, as well as a touch of the malt, although this is very well balanced to allow the more subtle yeast and a bit of bitter chocolate/coffee tastes to come out, although their appearance is brief.
Mouthfeel: Medium heavy with a bit of chew. The sour encourages a pucker, but doesn’t demand it.
Overall Impression: This is a different kind of beer. The tart finish seems closer to a Berliner Weisse, but the color and alcohol are clearly too strong for that. The “fake” grape smell is a bit distracting, and a touch cloying. This drags down drinkability a bit, but I could see others making a session of this. I would direct you to Weihenstephaner HefeWeiss beer or even Ayinger’s for a better representative of the style, but if you are a fan of those, check this out for comparison purposes.

Pours to a bronze/brown color with a tan head. The aroma is of sweet malts, wheat, sour apples, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor is sweet and a bit tart with the sour apple flavors. It has a malty, wheat backbone. It is light-bodied and easy drinking. I wasn't expecting the sour apples in this one. I won't chase this one down again.
