Visited as stop 4 on the Michigan trip. ksak, Mike, and Jen were in tow.
Atmosphere: The place has a patio and two floors inside. We chose the basement with a youth center layout (thanks FTB).
Quality: The bartender ran through the offerings with us, a nice tour through the line-up. Restrooms were clean and clientele seemed upstanding (present company excluded).
Service: Bar service, so the standard 3.0 applies.
Selection: 10+ beers on tap or hand pull. We went with the wheat wine, JAK and black IPA. The Black IPA was a disappointment, far too subdued on cask. The Livery seems to keep a good number of taplines flowing.
Food: Skipped eating here.

While this is located in what appears to be a largely derilict portion of Benton Harbor, the over 100 year-old building that houses the Livery is very nice on the inside. The whole place is clean, warm, inviting, and has a sort of coffee-house feel. We went on a Saturday night and it was nearly dead, so atmosphere was very quiet, however there is sometimes live music in the upstairs portion of the building in a very nice looking music hall.
Service was good enough for me and the food was good, although the menu is less than 5 items. It is pretty much soups and sandwiches you order from this lunch-counter thing in the corner. Do not go here expecting a brew-pub or full service restaurant like I did. There were 8 or 9 of the Livery's brews on tap. I had a sampler, and they were all quite drinkable and some were interesting, but nothing exactly knocked my socks off. They have a fair number of lagers which I thought was cool.
This is a really neat place and I wish it well. At present, I would say its worth stopping if you're in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip if you're from out of town.

This is an odd place. It is located in a very poor town with lots of abandoned buildings and a general dingy overtone. Inside was not much better (at least the downstairs, which is where I was). There is a small bar and the rest of the space is taken up by cafeteria/mess-hall style round tables. Even the bathrooms were dingy- metal stalls (which clanged loudly and felt like a prison-bathroom) and thin metal sinks. As far as the patrons, they were all locals. You'd think that with the kinds of beers the Livery puts out, they'd be more used to beer travelers but I definitely felt out of place. The one bartender there was odd although attentive I suppose. The food was pretty good (I got the potato soup) although the menu is not too extensive. I'm not sure what they make themselves as there didn't seem to be much of a kitchen. Anyway, the beer was fairly good (or at least interesting), they also make their own cider, and there is a lot to choose from. But overall, an odd place and I don't think I'll be visiting again.

Stopped in for lunch and to sample some brews.I hate to say a place is not worth a visit but this was really a poor experience.
The bar was empty and service was still deplorable, the bartender was taking orders from people that were behind us after she clearly watched us seat ourselves at the middle of the bar (many) minutes before. There was a local behind us and she was literally looking over our head to take their order 1st and more than just once and not only to us.
Had a flight (Overpriced) amounted to 3 10 oz beers (5oz pours we were told...) at a cost of around $15 or $5 / 10 oz. If the beer was good that would be fine...
Had 6 beers,3 were astringent as could be,one was an ESB that was an american red ale/amber one was earthy beyond what the beer should be and the "grand Reserve" a 2 yr barrel aged Bier de Garde was flat out infected / sour ,I can't imagine on purpose either.
Ordered 2 pizzas.12 and 15 each for a frozen pizza. One came out in 25 minutes the 2nd one we were told they ran out of pizza sauce and they were making more...IT WAS A FROZEN PIZZA !!!!
The pizza magically appeared when we told the bartender that we wanted the bill we needed to be somewhere else...
The building was fantastic...
I'm not sure who is rating this place 4-4.5 stars but seriously,if you would like a nice beer this is not the place to go especially with so many other GREAT breweries so close.
I know people will write the review off because there are so many other great reviews for this place but seriously,I have traveled quite extensively to breweries and with so many other great offerings in the area ,Bell's,New Holland,Greenbush,Dark Horse and Paw Paw brewing your time and pallet will thank you for heading somewhere else.
