Orthus Belgian Dubbel is a draft only beer as I as of right now, and on the site, it says it is not seasonal.

appearance - I had this in a small glass, so I don't know if it can produce a nice head. It was poured slow, though it did leave lace on the glass. On the light brown color side.

smell - Malts, yeast, caramel, hops.

taste - Nice even balance of malt and hops, more on the malt side. Yeast is presnt with a sweetness after taste.

mouthfeel - Medium body.

drinkability - Easy drinking beer, I should of ordered more. Should be sold in a bottle I think.

Orthus, on tap at Rustico, Alexandria, VA, served in a goblet of sorts.

Appearance: Arrives in a goblet a dark ruby red, that color where you can't quite tell if its transparent or not until you hold it up to the light. Doing so reveals a vibrantly colored, crystalline clear brew. The head had faded when it arrived, but a big foamy collar and a thick, spongy sheen of lace remained. The lacing is similarly thick, sticky, and clingy. Quite the nice looking dubbel.

Aroma: Grapes and spicy bread notes - rye-like, my colleague says - with plenty of stray sweet doughy notes and slightly phenolic though not medicinal notes. Fairly well-balanced on the whole, though not as complex as ...

Taste: The taste, which is very refined. Not too dry or too sweet, with about equal parts light roast, heavier toast, and light and dark fruits. To wit: raisins, hints of fig, red grapes, brown sugar, molasses, cola, coffee, definite crystal malt, and faint chocolate, along with a handful of spicy and faintly medicinal notes. Pretty much runs the gamut of acceptable "dubbel" flavors without overdoing any one thing. Very nice.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and light while still being solid and thickly sweet enough to be "meal like," as the style was originally intended to be. Medium bubbled and marginally even, as well, with a very soft, subtle, delicate bubble structure.

Drinkability: A winner of a brew, complex, delicate, and well-rounded. Stylistically very accurate, though with a few decidedly American overtones, I was very pleased with this one. Hopefully, they'll bottle this for wide release soon - it'd be a great winter go-to, depending on the price, of course.

On tap at House of 1000 Beers in New Kensington, PA.

Poured into a stemmed tulip: Dark brown body with medium amber highlights. 3 fingers of tight tan head that retains well & leaves thick swathes of lacing.

Smell is toasty, mild chocolate, with a strong nutty smell.

Roasty caramel & nuttiness carries through into the flavor & are very prominent. Some dark fruits in the finish with that nice medium roast that's not too bitter. A little coffee, just a touch of booze.

Medium-full-bodied & creamy, goes down easily.

The bartender who poured it didn't know what style it was (& neither did I) -- never would have guessed this was a dubbel. The roasty & nutty flavors had me going toward strong brown or porter. Not going to dock any points for style, because I really enjoyed this: good, flavorful but not over-the-top to the point that you get quickly saturated.
