A well done compliment to Dusty's Cellar a few doors down, which has a great selection of wines and beers for take out.
This is a small and modern tall-chair bistro bar aimed at the well-dressed upscale crowd, but it welcomes the sport-bar enthusiast as well (although most of them hang out at Buddy's in the next block).
Good beer selection (60+) and well thought out, although not as extensive as the nearby Tuba Museum or Old Chicago across the street, and well prepared food from a creative menu.
Friendly atmosphere with an attentive staff, this is a nice place to entertain a client or take a date.

I hit Dusty's about every two weeks when in Lansing. It probably has the best atmosphere among the beer bars in Lansing - intimate and classy without being pretentious. And definitely the best food. I love the fish and chips, and everything else I've had - salads, burgers, appetizers, has worked out. Where it unfortunately comes up short is on beer selection. It has 8-10 taps and gives about 3 handles over permanently to uninspiring large import labels (Bass, Hoegarden). The rest go to domestic craft, however, selection is still dragged down. There's always a handle or two given to lower-tier Michigan breweries, some of the better stuff doesn't rotate much- Short's come to mind, and every now and then the seasonals take over the lineup too much. This recently happened around Halloween, with multiple pumpkin beers on the board. Luckily there's always at least one interesting beer around - if not something new, then a reliable standby from Bells, Short's, Dark Horse, etc. Service is good, and since food counts for a lot for me as a biz traveler, this places gets a thumbs up.

This is main craft beer stop. There are two venues within one. Dusty's Cellar & Dusty's Tap Room.
Dusty's Cellar started out as a niche specialty food & wine shop, but have recently branched WAY out and have expanded their beer selections. I go here every other day, if not every day. They keep a good selection of beers in rotation, from imports, to domestic craft and a large selection of Michigan micros. They don't even carry Miller, Bud, etc...
The Tap Room is a great, small pub with amazing burgers. (I recommend the BBQ Burger - unreal). They also have a great selection of (all) micros on tap, mostly Michigan micros.
If you visit, I recommend joining the Beer Club. It's free and they give you 10-15% off every bottle.

I've been here a few times over the years and have always liked it. In times past I have enjoyed certain items on their menu and have never been disappointed.
On this most recent trip, I found myself back for a beer run, looking for singles from some of the micro breweries in and around Michigan. Dusty's has a great selection and I found exactly what I was looking for. I also found a few brews that are rather difficult to find around my home in North Carolina so I snagged them too.
I'm told on good authority that Dusty's makes several types of gift baskets for the holiday season. One of their specialties is a beer basket filled with any number of items. As a result, the selection of beer seems to be better during this time of year until the sell down to whatever their normal inventory levels are. If you are in the area, take advantage of the selection and atmosphere of this place.

I have taken my wife and kids here on Sunday afternoon a couple of times and we really like it. The waitress is very nice and the service is quick, although it is not busy when we are in there. Good selection of beer from most of Michigan's bigger micros like Dragonmead, New Holland, Founders, Dark Horse and more. Great Lakes on tap too. Big bottle selection. Food is good and fairly priced, I usually have the cod and they let my 5 and 2 year old split a kids meal and bring it to them on separate plates. Usually costs us about $20 for the food and a beer for myself, very reasonable. Really like this place, probably the best in Lansing area in my opinion. The store attached has a pretty good selection, so you can grab some great beers after having a couple. It is usually priced pretty reasonable and every once in a while I find a steal, like sixers of SN Bigfoot for $10. Or Dark Horse Off the Scale Barleywine for $10 a four pack.

Atmosphere is pretty typical for nicer Okemos restaurants (read: alot of old wasp women leaving bright red lipstick stains on their Chardonnay glasses). The nice thing is that there is also that underlying element of beer culture that is totally absent from the regular Dusty's restaurant.
The beer here is always very, very fresh, and I wouldn't be surprised if they dumped old beer. Of course, this is reflected in the price, but at least you always know that you are tasting what the brewer intended.
Very average service. Not extremely friendly and pretty slow. I have a feeling that the waitstaff here would rather be making the big bucks next door.
Selection is very good. Often they are lacking a tap from the way overplayed Bell's. It's nice to see an establishment that serves better beer, but doesn't necessarily feel the need to make 1/3 taps Bell's. They definitely go for more of a variety than just what is a guaranteed sell. Short's and Dragonmead are usually represented, and often Rogue and Great Lakes have a tap. The bottle selection is also very good.
The food is very nice. It's essentially pub food with a Dusty's gourmet twist. The chef here really knows what he is doing. Of course, you pay more for that as well.
Overall a good place to visit, but it's hard to afford to go there all the time.

Dusty's Tap Room sits in a strip mall a few miles east of Michigan State's campus. The decor is light and friendly. A nice wooden bar with three tv's on one wall, and tall tables on the other. It is the type of place you can take your mother for a sandwich and a beer (or wine) The menu was filled with pub fare as well as a few dinners, and pizzas. I ordered the black angus slaw dog with home made chips. (I believe they were listed as thin cut fries) It was a top notch dog.
Service was quick and friendly. Our waitress seemed to know her beer.
Dusty's has about one dozen taps and fifty plus bottled beers. The highlights included Dragonmead Absolution, Founder's Dirty Bastard, and Great Lakes Dortmunder.
This is place worth patronizing. I shall return.

This is one of my favorite hangouts.
They have 61 bottled beers at my last count, most of which are craft beers. Dogfish Head, Founders, Bells, Michigan Brewing Co, Ommegang, Rogue, Sammy A, Weihenstephaner, Delerium Tremens, Thomas Paine and many more fill their coolers. I really enjoy their beer list, which they change periodically. Of interesting note: Duchesse du Bourgogne Belgian Ale (25.5 oz bottle), Ch'Ti Brune Belgian Style Brown - Artois and Unibroue Don de Dieu. Yummy and interesting.
Their food selection is amazing. They are next door to one of Lansing's better independent restaurants called Dusty's Cellar (Lansing has so many chains, it's refreshing), and benefit from the type of decor and ambiance that restaurant brings. Plus, theyhave 1/4 pound Angus Beef hotdogs. Holy crap.
One of the best features is the service. The waitstaff is amazingly attentive; that kind that seems to show up juuust at the right second. Their bartenders really really know their beer and are able to help customers with very specific tastes find exactly the right brew for them. Exceptional.
Well-decorated, never crowded, but nicely packed..this place is the total package for my wife and I. Visit this bar if you're in the Lansign area.
