The colour is yellow with a tint of gold (7 EBC), the liquid is clear. The three finger compact head sinks rather quickly leaving lots of lacing.
The smell is mainly malty and semi-sweet. Some flowery bitter notes. Weak bread-like unclean notes. Hints of clean alcohol in the background.
The taste is light with quite a lot of French loaf. Flowery hops, low to medium bitterness. Medium body. Buttery notes in the aftertaste some fat flavours. The bitterness grows slowly, it is rather clean. The finish got some alcohol and more flowery/hay-ish notes.
The carbonation is strong, the large bubbles are fresh. Semi-smooth liquid.
I had expected some more bitterness in a pils from northern Germany. Otherwise, this is an OK beer.

A: Pours golden with a large thick white creamy head. Dissipation sure takes it's time, leaving nice lacings.
S: Sweet bready malt, a bit grainy and also doughy. Bitter hops as well as floral.
T: Bready sweet malt and some citric notes. Bitter hops are very faint - a bad thing in a German Pilsener.
M: Aftertaste stays for some time, with little bitterness. Body as well as carbonation is mild.
D: A mild German Pilsener, to mellow and mild to thickle my fanzy.

Courtesy of my flatmate's father, who brought this bottle from hometown Greifswald, Germany. According to the beer label, it is the Gold Medallist in the DLG competition 2006 (although there's no indication as to what DLG stands for...). Coming in a 500ml brown slim bottle, BB 25/10/2007, served chilled in a weizen glass.
A: pours a clear golden hue, with a thick, creamy frothy head with nice retention and tight lacing as it fades; carbonation is constant and lively, but not horribly fierce. Looking good!
S: doughy sourness comes hand in hand with mildly aromatic blossom, and grassy+herbal hoppiness; a flow of pretty intense and sticky malt juice behind. Quite pleasant, a half-way house b/w a malty Helles and a hoppier Pilsner.
T: a spritzy intake of lemony fruits makes a big entrance... growingly malty as it proceeds, with plentiful bready (and coarse, crushed lager malts) aroma to linger together with a light dose of sourness typical of a lager; the grassy hoppiness stays relatively timid, manifest in the aftertaste with a mildly bitter ending.
M&D: decent in fizziness, fresh, slightly thin in body, but still fuller than a crisply-dry Jever; overall this is not like most drier and hoppier Northern Pils I've had, but still a decent offering.
