Bottle opens with a pop and reveals a huge amount of carbonation. Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden color with a huge off white head that takes forever to recede and slicks itself all the way down the glass. Smells of grassy resiny fruity and floral hops with a weird buttery smell. The flavor is resinous and bitter with a tart fruity butter flavor that at first was off putting but over the course of the glass I got used to. Dry bitter finish that lingers for quite a while. Medium to thin body with an asinine level of carbonation and a tart resinous mouthfeel. Meh. Nothing horrible here, but nothing all that great either. Oh and Diacetyl rest!

22 oz beer was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a two finger puffy head. It an amber orange color with good clarity and lots of bubbles coming up through the glass. Head has reduced down to a decent layer and the retention is great.

Smell: Lots of citrus up front. Some bready and caramel notes, but the tangerine and orange are dominant.

Taste: Hops are very dominant in the taste profile. Malts are hard to pick up and there is a lngering bitterness in the back of the mouth.

Mouthfeel: a little smooth, aspirin/chalky feeling, full bodied, medium carbonation, and a little tough to drink.

Overall: Not a bad IPA, but I would choose others before this one. I love the Pemi Pale so much, but this one is a little dissapointing. I still drank the whole beer too and hope there is room for improvement with this beer. I appreciate the IBU's, but some balance would be good too.

A: Pours a clear orange-amber, with a big a good sized white head. Leaves a lot of sticky lacing as the glass is emptied. It's a pretty good looker, but I'd prefer it to be a bit hazier.

S: This is the 4000 Footer's strong suit. Even after letting the bomber sit in my fridge for a month or two, the nose is just a blast of dank, bitter hops--lots of grass and pine, with a bit of citrus. It smells like the freezer at the homebrew store. The smell is definitely not balanced--very little in the way of malts--and normally I look for more of a balance, but this was just such a fresh, clean, bright, hoppy smell that I couldn't keep my nose out of the glass.

T: The hops don't dominate the taste as much as they do the smell, with some crackery malts to balance out the grapefruit and pine notes of the hops. The finish is a bit herbal, with a strong lingering bitterness, but not bad.

M: Medium-bodied, but perhaps a bit under-carbonated, and quite dry. The bitter finish leaves some prickliness on the tongue, but overall quite drinkable.

O: I had read the 82 IBUs, but still wasn't expecting something quite so hoppy from a brewery that otherwise doesn't seem to do hop bombs. It was a pleasant surprise, and the smell alone was a real treat. Perhaps with a few tweaks, this could be a really great beer, but as it is it's solid and one I'll definitely pick up again.

Found a bomber of 4,000 Footer IPA on a recent trip to NH.

The beer pours a hazy amber with a small, creamy head on top. The foam disappears quickly leaving behind a coating of lace on the glass.

The aroma is fruity with notes of tropical fruit (mango?) and honey. A hint of citrus is also present.

Each sip of this medium bodied beer is creamy and soft with mild carbonation. The flavor is herbal with a mild bitterness at the end. It starts with light fruity notes, a touch of honey and herbal tea flavors. It finishes dry and slightly bitter. Reminds me of the bitterness is hot tea. Once gone the herbal bitterness lingers on the palate.

This reminds me more of an English IPA than an American IPA. Very easy to and nicely balanced between fruity sweetness and herbal bitterness.

rather standard reddish copper with a small almost snow white head that quickly recedes and laces okay.

lots of crackery malts in the aroma. some honeyed herbal tea. thats about it.

flavor follows with tea time in England. honeyed herbal tea and crackers.

medium bodied with an abundance of carbonation and some slightly resiny hops lingering along with the honey sweetness.

nope. not for me. It's drinkable, and I may finish the bomber. I don't know where the 82 IBUs are hiding, but it might be behind all that buttery, crackery, honey sweetness. I didn't bother to finish this one.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, says 6.5 abv and 82 IBUs. Pours a clear bright reddish orange, with a half inch of off white head, that leaves traces of lace. Smell is bread, carmel, grass, and some citrus. Taste is bigger and more bitter than the smell would have you expect, some grapefruit sticks in the finish. Body is medium, not a ton of carbonation, lush in front and a dry finish, and very drinkable. This is a different and pleasant IPA.

Served in a pint glass at the brewpub. Bright medium orange color with a minimal head.

Restrained aroma. A tangy citrus flavor dominates with a moderate lingering bitterness.

Medium bodied with a juicy mouthfeel, but lacking good carbonation. A little flabby on the mouthfeel.

Overall a pleasant and refreshing brew. A little one dimensional, but a nice accompaniment to the pub fare at the Woodstock Station.
