12 ounce bottle

It's exceptionally dark for a pale ale. It's pour is a brownish orange/burnt orange kind of color. Slight haze. The head is only around a short while before fading into a white film up top.

The smell is interesting in that your nose picks up both savory and citrus varieties of hops, against a background of breadiness.

There's no indication of citrus in the taste as it's all Earty in flavor. As it warms, the citrus tries to make an appearance, but it never happens. Tastes like Noble hops mixed in with pilsner and caramel malts.

Pretty stock for what it is. The bitterness feels stronger than 56 or whatever the IBU figure is. Being an APA, I was hoping for a citrus bomb, but got a more British or Belgian style. High bitterness, slightly sweet caramel, before the hoppy bitterness takes you deep into the finish.

It's an ok beer, nothing to write home about. Typical Beer of the Month Club offering (which is exactly how I got it). Not at all what I was expecting.

Poured from a growler into a mug, the beer is a bright, hazed, copper brown coloring with a frothy, filmy, clingy white head. Aromas of caramel sweet and biscuit in the backbone, with a hint of citrus. Flavors are rich and very bitter, with a dark, roasty caramel backbone and a resiny, peppery, and bitter dry hopping overtone. Some citrus highlights give a tartness at the end. Tangy sweet and bitter aftertaste on a thin body, with a smooth, slightly drying finish. Not bad.
