The Wal-Mart of liquor stores is a cavernous, monolithic beast.
I am usually disappointed by the lack of exotic choices. If there is a mediocre beer, they have it. There are certainly some gems, but they clearly do not care about beer as much as wine.
They are very good for picking up seasonals, or buying volume, and they have a decent keg selection too. And the prices are always reasonable.
It is a pain in the ass to check out because of an inane business practice that has the cashier interrupt at the point-of-sale in order to write down the driver's license number and d.o.b. of you and everyone you are with.
This Total Wine is one block from Cigar City, and across the parking lot from Whole Foods (which has a smaller but much higher quality selection.) So it is worth the trip. This block is very beer-rich.

This is one of those places that I almost hate to rate because it's a glorified ABC. That being said this store has a huge selection of not just beer but wine and everything else with alcohol. Granted most of the stuff here is from the major players (distributors, brewers). But man what a large number of beers and almost always something new. If your like me and want to get a cheap new rating every now and then, OK every day, then why not shop here. Sure I would rather support the local guys and lets face it this is the Wal-Mart of liquor stores, but it's hard not to enjoy the low prices and fresh stock. I enjoy this place so I recommend it.

For a big box store I have to say this place had great service. That was the one thing that stood out to me more than anything else. The assistant manager was nice enough to share some CCB Big Sound Scotch Ale he was holding behind the counter after seeing my Brooklyn Brewery hat and talking with us. The cashiers were all friendly and very willing to help us find anything.
Compared to other TW&M stores I've been to, this one seemed to care more about it's beer selection. A lot of the employees complimented our selections and share some of their favorites with us. We also had great conversation with the other customers in the store.
The selection is much better than what we can get in Gainesville with a larger selection of Brooklyn, Dogfish Head, and Belgian imports.
Overall I was impressed and would be happy to go back there anytime.

Disappointed by Total Wine...was hoping to at least find some CCB considering the brewery is right around the corner...not even one bottle in their store! I hear it's a production issue on CCB's part, so trying not to hold this against Total Wine in my review.
Selection was decent...a lot of Bell's stuff. My guess is Bell's doesn't get the hype it does in the Northeast in Florida. Cases and cases of HopSlam...going for $14.99 a 6 pack. Had pretty much all of Bell's lineup. Huge amount of Northeast stuff like Brooklyn, Weyerbach, DFH, etc so nothing that overly interested me coming from NJ. They did have some Terrapin stuff that I picked up to travel back with. Still can't believe I'm in Tampa and can't get a bottle of CCB!
Worth a visit nonetheless...may stumble across something interesting. I hear good things about the service at Total Wine from other reviews, but this was not the case during my visit. I asked two people about CCB and didn't really get an answer.

The prices on their beer selection (which is one of the worst I have seen at a Total Wine) are a bit high. They did, however, have a few offerings I haven't been able to find at other Total Wine locations such as Tropical Heatwave from CCB and Old Elephant Foot from Tampa Bay Brewing. Other than that, I might not stop here on my next trip to CCB.

Went to this beer store while in Tampa visiting my father. This place is very impressive. A huge inventory in every department, nice big singles aisle. Shelf talkers here and there provide information on a few beers. They didn't carry anything I would consider rare, maybe it was just bad timing? As far as the prices go I think it was kinda tit-for-tat. Some beers were in fact much cheaper than I'm used to, while others were comparable or slightly more expensive. This is definately my store when in the Tampa area!

On Dale Mabry just a light north of 275. Good store with a good selection. The staff here is awesome. There always there to give you recomendations and actually sound like they know what they are talking about. They have a mix a six pack section which is always fun when your trying new things. They have a decent 22oz selection and some local brews avalibale. They have no problem teling you when the beer your looking for is coming in. They will even put some aside for you. They put 2 cases of SA Imperial Pilsner to the side for me last year. But they are or were frugel with there 120's only letting me grab two. Pretty good for a big corporation to have a good beer selection. Nothing like ABC.

This behemoth of a store is located in a former Rooms to Go on Dale Mabry, very close to Cigar City Brewing. Be warned when you go -- traffic is often chaotic as people decide which part of the shopping spoke they are headed for.
It boasts 2,000 beers; however, that includes all flavors of Bud/Miller/Coors, and the same beer in varying sizes counts multiple times. Beers are organized alphabetically by brewer, separated by country of origin. Always lots on hand from 4 well-known craft brewers from the United States -- Samuel Adams, Stone, Rogue, and Dogfish Head; however, not nearly as much emphasis on Cigar City Brewing, which sits 200 yards away. You can get a beer listing online -- http://www.wineaccess.com/file/store/totalwine/beer-totalwine-tampa.pdf -- however, the list is static, so you may find items out of stock.
Prices are good, due to the volume buying power that they have. However, it's a number of the wines that seem to be the loss leaders, not craft beer. Therefore, you will often find similar (sometimes better) pricing at the nearby Whole Foods (e.g. The Bruery Coton is regularly $18.99 at Total Wine; $17.99 at Whole Foods). Total Wine's size also allows them the ability to be the sole distributor of some beers in FL (e.g. Flying Fish).
Service is average, at best -- my best discussions about beer have been with other customers or with distributor reps stocking the shelves. Checkout is annoying on a good day, and soul-crushing when crowded. Lanes are incredibly short and narrow, and in order to place purchased items in your cart, you block all lanes to your left.
If you are in there buying wine, it's worth checking out the beer; however, there are better options nearby.

I love Total Wine and I frequent this establishment often. The prices are very reasonable and there's an excellent selection of single beers. Almost every time I come here I leave with at least one mixed six pack, regardless of what I came in to purchase. They carry a fairly extensive array of Florida beers, including St. Somewhere, a small brewery located in Tarpon Springs (one of my favorites). I have never asked for help on beer selection but I've found the employees to be very knowledgeable on the wines available.

This is a great place to find many elusive beers. I couldn't tell you how many are there, but they have beers from nearly every country. The store is very clean and the stock is well organized to avoid having to scrutinize store shelves. Prices are reasonable.
The service, as other reviewers have pointed out, is not up to par; I might go as far to say terrible. I asked one seemingly intelligent employee if they had anymore Weihenstephaner hefe in stock and was given a nonsensical glare. I attempted to clarify my selection by uttering "You know, the wheat beer..?" and once again recieved the "deer in headlights" look. Oh well. Can't have it all.
Regardless, do not pass this store up. Make yourself a shopping list and most importantly- a budget. I guarantee you'll end up buying a few more beers than expected.
