Bottled. Sparkling, hazy orange beer with yeast-clouds drifting in it. Nice, medium, off-white head. Lots of banana-esters when poured, but they calm down after a while, and yeast and cloves finds their places. A bit thin mouthfeel with flavors of banana, lemon, cloves and some yeast. The finish has some metallic notes, as well as spices.

Bottle poured into weizen

Three finger off white head with orange body

Moderate carbonation, but more gentle than most hefeweizens

Smells of banana, wheat, and apple

Taste: Apple, banana, and alcohol with a spicy yeast finish!

Overall, this is a very pleasant beer that is worth tracking down.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a very hazy, pale golden color with a nice thick long lasting white head with excellent retention. Aroma right away, very yeasty, and lots of citrus. Slight banana aroma. Taste follows suit with more banana in the finish. High carbonation and light body with a very crisp slightly sweet finish. Very easy to drink, this is a hefeweiss beer that really defines the style. Excellent on all levels in my opinion, the mouuthfeel is pleasant, not very thick at all.

I have had this beer many times, and always recommend it, and will continue to drink it in the future. Definitely one of my favorites for this style.

S: citrusy wheaty banana

T: delicious! Tastes like it smells maybe some apple in there. Aftertaste has slight bitter but its delicious

M: very smooth perfect amount of carbonation

O: this beer is excellent! My new favorite beer i highly recommend! Those Germans know how to make good beer!

This beer pours a beautiful light copper with an enormous 4 finger head. There is excellent retention, but almost no lacing. Smell is very fruity. I detected apples, oranges, bananas, along with a subtle wheat and honey aroma. Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation. Taste is nice withsome lemon notes upfront and the expected bitterness for the finish. But in both cases the tastes were nicely understated. A pleasing very drinkable offering that is recommended.

I tried this on tap at Old Chicago in Madison, WI in summer 2012.

Pours a cloudy copper orange color with a slight off-white head served with lemon. Scent is mild with wheat and citrus. Taste is sweet, full of wheat, and hints of citrus. Finishes very smooth and delicious. A good overall beer especially in the hefe-weizen style.

Golden blond with a lasting creamy head. This beer, to me, both smells and tastes of banana. The wheat really comes through in this tasty beer. On the back tongue, this beer also has a slightly tart, almost lemon taste. Very light, this is a great summer beer, much more satisfying than most of the popular shandys out there now.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, golden honey color with a white, frothy 2 finger head. Good retention, resulting in a lace that's thin, though consistent and somewhat sticky.

Smell - Smells of clove, ripe banana and with hints of lemon.

Taste - Starts with healthy ripe banana and an aggressive clove spice. Slight hints of tobacco. A touch of lemon tartness on the back end, finishing clean.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body. Good carbonation. Smooth as hell.

Overall - This is an excellent hefe. Great all-around balance, leads to outstanding smoothness and ease of drinking. It's not on the level of the best hefe's in the world, but it's not too far off.

330 mL bottle from a six-pack picked up at the LCBO; best before May 2013. One of the few well-known German hefes I have not yet reviewed or tried, but now is as good a time as any to change that.

Pours a muddy yellow-amber colour, totally opaque with sediment and topped with just under two fingers of puffy, silky eggshell-white head. Decent retention; the foam sticks around for more than a few minutes, and leaves behind a smooth, creamy cap at the surface when it finally does wilt. The aroma is zesty and fresh, with lots of yeast, bready wheat malt sweetness and lemony citrus. Banana and clove notes are present, but relatively minor contributors to the overall bouquet.

Solid flavour with nothing out of the ordinary for a hefe - maybe a bit more citrus than usual, with plenty of lemon and orange citrus amongst the bready wheat malts. A fair bit of yeasty character as well, with a slight banana and bubble gum flavour that leads into some clove spiciness and herbal, grassy hay notes. The mouthfeel is where this stuff loses me - it's a little too fizzy for my liking (which makes me a bit belchy), and although the flavour isn't diluted it does come across as kind of watery. On the light side of medium-bodied, with a prickly feel in the mouth and a little bit of slickness left over on the palate when it's gone.

Final Grade: 3.75, a serviceable B grade. Paulaner Hefe-weissbier is a respectable, authentic German wheat beer that no fan of the style should neglect to try. That being said - as enjoyable as this is, I'm not sure if I would select it over a few of my other favourites in this category (think Weihenstephaner or Schneider Weisse). The fizzy, light mouthfeel of this stuff leaves me a little wanting, but the flavour is still spot-on. Worth a try, and something I would consider getting again in the future.

A: Hard to see through, drab tan and caramel color with thick white head, very heavy amount of lacing

S: Something like a light caramelized banana rolled in uncooked dough

T: No bitter or tartness, sticks in back of throat, bland taste that runs away quickly

M: fluffy, smooth and light down the hatch with an almost chewy finish

O: An example of the style, don't use fruit, have it for breakfast.

This is my first beer review so i thought i'd start by reviewing my favourite beer!

Poured it from a 500mL bottle straight from the fridge into a wet weizen glass (Erdinger type). It poured with a thick foamy head on top of hazy amber coloured liquid in which a lot of carbonation could be seen, but which discipates after a few seconds.

On the nose i mainly get bananna, bread and some spice - none of these aromas dominate, they amalgamate into i guess the classic Hefe-Weiss aroma.

In the mouth, this beer is simply superb. Your palate in confronted with fruity notes and bready, yeasty overtones. The fruit flavour really shines through.

This is a great summer beer, perfect for the beer/back garden, on a hot day you could drink copious amounts of this stuff.

This is the finest example of a beer in this style - Enjoy!!

what can you say about a beer that is about near perfect. It has a great sweet citrus start with just a hint of hops.

It finsihes light and refreshing. This may be a perfect beer. Definitely a top 5 beer for me.

Probably unfair for me to review I love this beer way too much. I even know when my local store gets their deliveries so I can insure I pick it up fresh.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle best before 03/13(so I assume its 4 months old) into a weizen(of course) glass.

This beer has the look down to a t. I think the head dissiaptes a little quickly, but retains great overall. The body is a cloudy golden color with a big ol' fluffy white head that laces the glass all the way down.

A well rounded smell of banana, lemon, spice and yeasty qualities.

Man, this hits the spot when it's over 100. It is reminiscent of the nose in regards to the taste. Nothing sticks out too terribly much. You get just a well rounded profile of banana, spice and lemon. There is a great bready/wheaty and sweet character going on.

Medium bodied with a med-high level of carbonation that does settle quickly.

The drinkability on this is out of the park. I had three of a six pack and could had the other three, but unfortunately I'm too nice and shared those.

I think this may be my new summer brew of choice... It's a good looking, good smelling beer with good light flavors that keep you coming back for more. It has a slightly fruity flavor up front, but you can definitely taste the wheat. A crisp, refreshing beer for sittin by the pool.

S: Bananana, oranges and cloves and other spices. Hint of sweatyness/wet hay.

T: Sweet white biscuity bread, coriander and cloves/allspice, candi sugar, very sweet and clean finishing. quit tasty. Some apple and banana notes too. Lots of wheat and yeastyness. Hint of lemon-y and grassy hops.

M: High carbonation, incredibly sessionable, nice creamy full body.

O: Great wheat beer, the ultimate in summer time drinking. One of the best hefs up there with weistenphaner.

Served from the bottle into a footed pilsner glass at Lizardville

A- Poured a bright hazy dark orange color with a big frothy and billowy head that left some droppy lace

S- Some big clove and buttery aromas, wheat, and a slight skunkiness

T- A lot of clove and buttery flavors with a big wheat backbone

M- Smooth, some prickly carbonation, softer mouthfeel, and dry

O- I wonder how fresh this was, a nice drinkable beer. Not sure if the buttery type of flavor should have been present. Lacking in the bubblegum notes and banana flavors that I really like in a hefeweizen.

Pours a creamy looking golden nectarine color. Very rich and milky looking as it's got a beautiful hazy look to it. The head is bright white and impressive, like a thick cloud. Great lacing as the head falls.

A nice combination of the banana and cloves you'd expect, but also some bubble gum, citrus fruits and pepper.

Straw-like floral taste. Banana bread. Pepper and cloves.

Complex mouthfeel. Slightly sweet and acidic up front. Creamy all the way thru. More acid in the swallow, along with a slightly tart hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Ever so slightly watery feel.

Overall I liked this beer a lot. It's very easy to drink and the ABV is reasonable so you can have several. A good go-to beer during the warmer months.

Pours a hazy orange/yellow, with a 2 finger head that thins to a lace and slimes a residue along the side of the glass. Smells of bananas, lemons, Sweet sugary candies. Pours a cloudy orange color with a nice white head into my glass. THIS is a hefeweizen, baby!

Banana and clove in the nose with a stronger emphasis on the latter.

Citrus, clove and wheat flavors make up the palate here. Somewhat dry too.

Authentic mouthfeel too. Clove is most prominent. Carbonation is mid-level.

It tastes a bit bland but otherwise, should quench your thirst. I would still take it over any of the American Pale Wheat Ale imitators!

Everyone has been raving about this Hef but in my opinion it's way over carbonated and very light in flavor. Maybe I am not overally ethusiastic about this Hef because I am used to the American Hefs (Sam Adams, Pyramid, etc) so take this with a grain of salt:

A: Poured a thick white head and golden/orangy color.

S: Lots of spice and citrus

T: A very tangy brew, a lot of carb, probably should have let this sit awhile

M: Crisp and clean and lots of carb - too much carb in my opinion. Sorta distracted from the overall taste

Overall - this is a great German style hef. If you're used to American Hef you might be slightly disappointed.

The huge off white head dissipates slowly atop a hazy light gold brew, which darkens as more yeast hits the liquid.

Smell is lightly lemony, yeasty, tangy, just about right.

Tastes of the wheat and yeast, but unfortunately not much else.

Feel is almost smoth, light bubbly, and easy to drink.

While this is definitely not Wiehanstephaner, it is still a fine beer.

500ml bottle. Weizen glass. Enjoyed on apr´12 –and many times in the past. Lemon yellow color, foggy appearance. White, close, lasting crown. Intense clove & banana aromas, yeast & mildy malty touches, phenol & bready crust notes. Fruity flavor & slightly acidic hues. Low bitterness. Spiced palate & subtle buttery sensation. Flavorful medium body, moderate carbonation. Dry finish. Refreshing & drinkable. (Now available at many supermarkets. Store at home for a short time before drink it. My suggestion)

I have been wanting to sample a good hefe for a while, as I have been on a porter/stout kick for what seems like forever. Although I have certainly drank other kinds of beers over the last few months, some in excess, porters and stouts have dominated my beer-drinking as of late. But I don’t want to limit myself to only a couple styles! Especially since German wheat beers are so remarkably and consistently good, I wanted to grab this. Anyway, poured from a pint bottle into what else? A big, personalized weizen glass I got from being a groomsman. Hells yeah

Appearance – Cloudy golden color with an almost brown essence floating around in the beer. This brew certainly looks almost like a two-tone beer, kinda like this awesome ’77 Ford Bronco I used to have. But that’s another story. Nice head on the brew, probably two fingers, outstanding retention and lacing up and down the glass. Weizens in the proper glassware are some of the best looking beers on the planet.

Smell – Breads, yeast, bananas, clove,
everything you would expect from a weizen, and BIG

Taste – Powerful bready yeast with a solid banana background, with hints of clove almost following the nose exactly. This beer is as big in taste as it is in smell, and it smells BIG and tastes BIG. What a brew!

Mouthfeel – Smooth, creamy, nice finish. Big beer all around, makes you want to slam this down!

Overall – This is a tasty beverage through and through . Highly recommended, I would absolutely buy it again. German wheat beers are just so good, it’s nice to revisit them from time to time. First time I have drank a Paulaner, but I bought their doppelbock on the same run as when I got this. This beer represents the hefeweizens and Paulaner well, so I am excited about the doppelbock. Try this beer!
