Thanks to beerman207 for having this one as an offering at a recent tasting. Poured from the bottle to a pint glass.

Appearance: Pour is a deep dark brown/near black; starts with a 1/2 finger dark tan head that fades quickly to a thin and uneven skim; body is opaque; loose and spotty lacing holds momentarily, but the sides are effectively clean of lacing as it all slides back into the drink.

Smell: Mostly roasty and slightly burnt malts that come across like a nice roasty coffee; however, there is a slightly burnt plastic scent as well and it's a bit of a turn off.

Taste: Again, mostly the very nice roasty and burnt maltiness - pretty standard and solid; that burnt plastic scent turns into a burnt plastic flavor though and is present in the aftertaste and kind of ruins it a bit for me; on the one hand, I really want to praise the beer for the solid American Stout flavors and the nice roast which is quite solid, but on the other hand, the plasticity definitely lowers it.

Mouthfeel: Solid carbonation that is smooth; typical American Stout thickness that is thinner than an Imperial, but certainly not watery or anything; slight stickiness is left behind on the roof of the mouth.

Drinkability: The plastic flavor and scent really got me down on this one and I wouldn't seek it out. It's got other aspects going for it, but after a while it just got tiring to work my way past it.

This beer is not quite black, but it is quite a dark brown. The head is a creamy light brown cap that forms a pillow a bit taller than half a finger. It has good retention and leaves a solid volume of sticky lace.
The aroma brings out a lot of roast with notes of coffee grounds and bitter cocoa. There's a somewhat tinny quality, though it evens out well and brings out a creamy sweetness. A touch of smoke lingers underneath.
The flavor brings out all the roast with the coffee grounds, a bit fresher than in the nose, with bittersweet cocoa. It takes on a meaty sort of note that leads into a smokiness that stays the rest of the way though. This is more of a savory than a sweet stout, and a good one.
The body just verges into full but has some good heft to it. I would tone the crispness down a bit, but it works.

Aroma-Roasty, faint hop note
Taste-Coffee, chocolate, subtle dark fruit, fang smokiness, creamy. Nice overall stout.

Fresh from the brewery in a growler. This fine local stout is a solid example of the style. Pours
a thick blackish brown with tinges of red on the outside. An excellent frothy tan head, nice
and thick dies down to pools of thin foam leaving great lacing behind. Nose of deeply roasted
malts, chocolate, and some dark fruits. Flavor is moderately sweet up front, chocolate to the
sides, and deeply roasted malts and grains to the back. A light hop background keeps it all in
balance with a light sweet aftertaste making for an excellent stout.

Of note should be that this stout, as well as the other offerings till a few years ago, was only
available in growler form from a local BP station. It was also sweeter then and a hair more
on the black side as far as look. That said I am partial to the brewery for making such
excellent fresh beer. The ABV is also at 6.7 percent according to the board.

Cheers

Poured Stout into a Pint glass.

A - Pours black as midnight with half of finger of light mocha head.

S - Dark roasted malts with not much else.

T - Whew, much better than the smell. Getting smooth roasted malts, light bitter coffee. A little watery mid palate. On the aftertaste getting more roasted malts and light chocolates and coffee.

M - Medium carbonation and medium mouthfeel.

O - Not the worst stout but not the best either. Cheers!
