From the 22 oz. bottle purchased at the brewery and sampled on September 6, 2012.

The pour is a cloudy light amber-pale yellow with a tremendous white, puffy head. The head settles but it takes awhile.

The aroma is full of wheat, banana, and yeast with the pale malts a little downplayed. But the aroma is wholly inviting.

The body is light but also smooth and creamy.

The taste is much like the aroma with plenty of wheat and banana along with a low bitterness that lingers momentarily on the finish. This is a fine example of a Hefeweizen.

Really liked this beer. Always enjoy a good Hefeweizen (really just learned what that meant), never liked the super hoppy taste of an IPA. I like it with a shot of Grand Marnier. Good beer

The flavor was just right, a little sweet - and smooth. Wish I knew more words to describe the flavor, but it is really good.

Dry Dock's Hefeweizen pours with a hazy goldenrod appearance. While building a relatively short statured head for its style, its fluffed cotton white foam clumps on the glass and offers up long lasting retention.

But its balanced attack of banana, clove and bubblegum aromatics really starts to sing the praises of traditional Hefeweizens. Secondary notes of white pepper tingle the nose white a musty wheat note supports all the aromas with bready sweetness and refined sugar. Lightly acidic notes of apple sulfur and citrusy lemons add a zesty scent that the beer would otherwise regret.

It's soft, it's complex, and it's balanced- the taste is equal parts creamy wheat, confectioner's sugar, and fruit. Banana first, but then the the esters morph into papaya, citrus oils, lemons, and apples as the beer traverses across the palate. And from left field comes the taste of Juicy Fruit bubblegum that suddenly hits you as the taste culminates nearing finish. Lightly musty from grain sweetness, the beer closes with even more complexities of vanilla and mint.

Light and creamy on the tongue, the beer's malt influences are short-sighted because of the beer's lacking carbonation. Lingering sweetness is brought to the forefront and is slow to recede as the beer lightens to near-watering textures and slight thinness in mid palate. , slight linger of sweet. But finishing spicy, simmering with minty-warmth and evaporative cooling, the beer is refreshing and complex from start to finish.

While not perfect, Dry Dock's Hefeweizen fares better than most versions even from Deutschland. Its lighter carbonation causes fits in the appearance and mouthfeel departments, but all of the other complexities, requirements, and even some intangibles are there that would otherwise really set the beer apart. Comparisons are drawn to examples like Franziskaner and New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat.

12 ounce can served in Hefeweizen glass. Note that I vigorously swirled the last ~20% of the beer in the can prior to pouring to get any lingering yeasties into the glass. I like my Hefe's yeasty and cloudy.

A: Hazy yellow with the tiniest of orange hues. Very cloudy. There are some small brown particles suspended (my guess is leftover yeast) - probably as a result of my pre-drink swirl. No head is apparent, although some minor lacing around the glass appears as you drink.

S: Lemon/citrus fruit is predominant, with some banana notes present and a slight tinge of clove. Also get a little of the yeasty smell. Hefe's aren't really known for their great smell, so this is a hard category to judge.

T & M: This Hefe definitely ranks on the banana side of the clove-to-banana continuum that Hefe's often go for. It's not spicy as much as it is fruity and creamy. Banana notes are predominant, but counterbalanced by citrus fruit flavor and a little bit of clove/spice. The finish is smooth and supple with the citrus hops lingering on the tongue. This is a very well-hopped beer in terms of balance. It's surprisingly complex for a Hefeweizen. Mouthfeel is great - medium carbonation with great body for a Hefe. VERY drinkable.

O: This is probably the most underrated beer I know of. It's definitely the best commercially-produced Hefeweizen I've had and even beats my homebrew recipe by a long shot. The taste is more complex than you suspect from a Hefeweizen. They've nailed the hopping dead-on. If you like your Hefe's banan-y, youll love this. If you like your Hefe's more on the spicy side, you may have to look elsewhere. I really dont know how to improve upon this beer other than by increasing the aroma notes, which I find a little weak. But that's a minor complaint - go buy this today and thank yourself.

12 fl oz can served in a weizen glass, reviewed live:

A - Pours a hazy and cloudy light golden color with one finger of thin, just off-white head. Retention is ok. Large yeast particles are visible. Appealing (at least in my book.)

S - Huge banana and clove nose. Bready and buscuity yeast. Sweet and tart. Spicy wheat foundation. A bit simple, but incredibly inviting. I'm looking forward to it.

T - Follows the nose closely. Thick, doughy yeast open a clean base malt and wheat foundation. Yeasty esters throughout. Fruity without being sweet. The banana notes are incredibly fresh. No hops character whatsoever. I like it a lot.

M - Medium bodied and crisp. A bit chewy.

D - This goes down way too easy. A great offering now that Dry Dock is canning. Surprisingly, one of the best I've had in the style (and not just American hefes.) I'll be buying it again.

This golden beer will wet anyone's whistle. A pure hefe weissen taste, but this has a strong (but not too strong) hint of banana, more so than any other weisse beers I've had.

I strongly recommend getting this in a bottle, pouring it into a glass until there is about 10% left in the bottle, then shaking vigorously (with your finger over the top obviously!) to get all of the sediment out and dump on the top to create a head that trickles the goodness down your beer as the head thins.

Absolutely delicious weisse beer! One of the best in my opinions!

12 oz can. Pours hazy straw gold with a small white head that quickly disappears.

The aroma is sweet wheat malts, banana and a little clove spicing.

The flavor is wheaty malts with some sweet fruit and banana and some earthy yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation and is a bit watery.

Overall, an OK hefe. Lots of banana and wheat. Sweet and watery.

On tap at Dry Dock. Hazy golden. Clove, wheat, banana, and a bit of bubblegum. Awesome. One of the better American hefeweizens that I've had.

Bomber served cold into an imperial pint glass. Not the ideal weather for a light wheat beer (temps in the teens, snow on the ground) but what the heck?

Dry Dock's Hefeweizen is a cloudy pale yellow color with thin white head. It manages to have good retention but not much lacing. I pour the first half without stirring up the yeast sediment.

Aroma is a beautiful combination of banana, bubble gum, and light spice notes.

Flavor is excellent as well and probably as good as it gets for American versions of this style. It's light in body and flavor but it has great depth and wonderful subtleties that makes beers like this special. Wheat, lemon, banana, clove, and cake.

Mouthfeel is light in body and perfectly carbonated. Easy drinking but a joy to behold.

Overall an excellent version of the style. We're lucky to have Dry Dock here in Denver and shouldn't take it for granted.

Big big big big ripe banana on this one. I don't get any clove at all. A little bit of baked bread. This smells wonderful, and is what I would expect for a perfect Hefeweizen.

Straw yellow in color with a crisp white head and lacing that lets you know how many sips it took you to get to an empty vessel. Its just the right amount of cloudy and while the foam falls into the beer rather quickly, it leaves a white ring in it's wake which is actually pretty attractive.

Again with the banana on the palate. It just dominates this beer through and through. I get a few more flavors than I do scents. Biscuits, and a slight candied fruit come to mind.. like you're eating a candied banana fruit sandwich.

Medium carbonation and body. Finishes a tad dry, but leaves sweet tastes in your mouth. Overall this is an excellent Hefeweizen, and I could drink this all day.

Hazy Pour, good head retention. Fantastic aroma, certainly some banana to it. Tastes completely different on tap as opposed to bottle. Strong notes of banana. Solid body and a very smooth banana-ey finish. Spot on for German Hefeweizen style. This is quite possibly the best german hefeweizen I've had on tap anywhere, including franziskaner and weihenstephan.
