With a lively appearance and a quickly fading head, this beer resembles ginger-ale more than anything. It has a saccharin-sweet juicy bubblegum aroma, blended with kiwis and mangos. Even if the scent did carry over into the flavor, I don’t think I would be too pumped. There is no hop profile. Very dry and bitter; thin and with a metallic, astringent aftertaste. It’s more like a bland mango-flavored sparkling water than a beer. You’ll be torn between chugging 18 of them without batting an eye or pouring it down the drain.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color (with some orange hues) and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high dense off white head that died down and consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of mangos are present in the nose along with hints of grassy hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell in that it has some mango flavors but these immediately clash with the hops, which lend grassy flavors and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The smell of this beer seemed promising but the flavors in the taste clashed almost like when you brush your teeth and then drink orange juice immediately afterwards. The taste could definitely use a better balance.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden orange with light amounts of visible carbonation and just a touch apricot highlights. The beer has a half finger tall sudsy off-white head that quickly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film and a slightly more than thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of mango and tropical fruits (pineapple & passionfruit) over the top of a light amount of floral hops.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of grainy malts with some moderate to strong flavors of artificial mango and tropical fruits (pineapple/passionfruit/kiwi) - a little bit like what you get in popsicles. Light amounts of floral hops that impart a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Light to medium bodied with slightly more than moderate amounts of carbonation. Fizzy and slightly thin.

O: A little too artificial in the tropical and mango flavors (something not quite natural about the flavors/sweetness and just a touch of chemical aftertaste). It would probably go down much better if I was sitting on the beach in the Caribbean but in my apartment in NJ maybe not as well.

First had: on tap at Brickwall Tavern, Asbury Park, NJ

Strange brew to see on tap here, but whatever. Clear golden-yellow pour with a thin, wispy, white head, that left a few speckles on the glass. Aroma of mango candy and papaya, overly ripe/sweet. One-dimensional, not that I really expected much else. Taste was similarly full of mango and other vague tropical fruits, though quite artificial and syrupy as opposed to fresh and authentic. Yeah, this is one for the college biddies. Body was light, mouthfeel was syrupy, aftertaste was stale. Meh.

Writing another review for a beer I've already reviewed, but has since been deleted.

St. John's mango pale ale pours out a yellow and orange liquid with plenty of clarity. It has a thin white head no bigger than 3/8" on it. The aroma is nice if you like mango. Its plenty sweet, but kicks down the requisite amount of tropical fruit you are hopefully looking for if you decided to buy a beer with mango in it. It really has lots of mango in the aroma, sometimes coming off as mixed with perfume, but thats because perfume has alcohol in it!

Taste is a very mild and thin malt body, AAL levels of hopping and carbonation, and lots of that mango stuff. Its all mango ok? There's nothing else going on. I would love to try a version of this that is massively hopped.

If you loathe or love this beer, it all centers around how much you love or hate mango I would guess. I really like it. But after 12oz, I didn't want another. Too much sweetness to be a repeat drink in the same day. But it goes great around the pool for 12oz with.

Poured from tap into pint at the brewery in St John. I love mango so this looked perfect.
Nice golden amber color, but not much head. Still looks pretty good though. Nice sweet malty aromas, definitely a fruity nose with an ver so slight hop aroma.
Taste is nicely sweet, malts...you really do taste the mango. Its a good brew for the heat. Its very similar to a #9 but mango instead of apricot. Nice english malt backbone with a bit of sweet fruit over it. Not sure why the reviews are so low, its quite nice and easy...what else do you want on an isand like this?

Rising carbonation bubbles in a light yellow body, lots of lace. Very artificial aroma. Artificial tasting bubble gum candy. Beer at the pool in place of a soft drink. Smooth mouthfeel but marginally drinkable. Too sweet, where's the hops. Thanks for sharing Josh.

Single bottle from the Shipyard brewery in Portland.

Poured into a sampler glass. Pale golden-peach, with a half inch of froth that settles into a thick ring. Slight haze to it.

Nose is certainly fruity - puzzy peaches and mango candy. Not much else, but what is there is pleasant enough.

Tastes much as I had expected, which is pretty much a one-sided artificial mango and peach concoction with that tinny finish I notice in many a light fruit beer. A bit of citrus in there I suppose.

Thin, decent carbonation, a bit oily.

Nice nose, but taste was just not there. Not a brew I would visit again.
