Avoid this one at all costs. It had a $2.99 tag around the 500ml bottle, I should have known. The taste was much too sweet, like fake candy, way too boozy and the aftertaste was like vomit. Almost zero carbonation and a very strange mirky orange color. I drink all kinds of beer but this went down the drain. Too bad.

Pours a deep amber color, mild clarity. Super thick looking, low carbonation, and minimal head, even after an abrasive pour. The smell... ugh, the smell. The alcohol in this beer is WAY too overpowering - smells nearly like rubbing alcohol. Other hints in the nose: musk, mold, cheese, onions, corn, wheat, dirty grains, wet cardboard. The taste isn't too far behind - hot from the alcohol with notes of musty old basement, dirty earth, cheap corn grains, and funky onion. Taste like absolute puke, and I'm trying to be nice here. Sweetness is abundant from the malt, as well, so much so that it's cloying and nasty. Hops? Where are they? It doesn't matter, nothing could save this beer. Thick, syrupy, sticky, and heavier than lead on the mouth.

Good God, this beer is downright awful. I tried, I really did. I muscled down about half the glass and had to pour the rest down the drain. It got far worse as it warmed up. A colossal train wreck of alcohol, adjunct grains, malt, and whatever the hell else is in this beer. Head for the hills, this is the worse beer I've had.

A - Dark amber with absolutely no head.

S - This is so heavy on the alcohol that it actually sort of smells like vodka. Grainy, musty, and nasty.

T - Better than the nose. Yeasty, boozy, bready.

M - Heavy and sickly sweet. Not good.

This is really not a good beer. Ugh.

Review from 9/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a nice orange amber with virtually no head no lacing. Sour grain aroma. Taste is light sweet malt and alcohol. A kind of caramel flavor in the middle, but it is overwhelmed by alcohol and an acidic, estery flavor. Not very good. Hopefully won't give me a headache.

My first Doppelbock, as far as I know. I shan't let it color my impression of the style, however.

Head quickly dissipated (due to the high alcohol content?).

After one or two sips, I had that barfy "been drinking bad beer all nite" taste in my mouth.

Avoid this one.

With a tag highlighting the 12% abv around the bottle, you know what the marketing angle is for this beer (too bad it wasn't 12% off in price). Poured into a tall pilsner glass.

Off the pour manages a small yellow caramel like head with a hint of orange, doesn't stick around or leave a collar, no lacing at all either. The body color is strange. It's a very obvious orange to some amber, cloudy, even some flakes in the glass also. This looks strange.

Nose is not too bad, but smells mostly like artificial candy and a small dose of cinnamon. Where is the malt, or even something like chocolate? Not even very sweet smelling, just some noticeable alcohol, odd.

Taste is a major letdown but what else with this sense of heat and artificial candy nose coming? Boozy hot, feels seltzer like, over fermented orange juice, not cinnamon candy not in a fun way, more like cough syrup. Fusel alcohol finish, faint malt just barely making a presence but can't make a dent.

Overall, this is really terrible, when you can have standard like Ayinger Celeberator or Weihenstephan Korbinian why would you even want this? Troegenattor please!

Saw this at a supermarket for $1.49 for a pint bottle. Couldn't resist. I purchased the last two bottles there. Poured into a Krusovice mug.

A- Dark golden/light brown color, much lighter than I expected. Thick white head that disappears quickly.

S- Sugary, molasses, floral notes and cheap adjunct lager. Just a little bit of alcohol.

T- Surprisingly not offense or very strong. In fact, there really isn't much going on. Sweet molasses and malts. Slight vodka and odd astringent aftertaste.

M- This by far was the worst part. Very flat, thin and watery. I had bad memories of 40 ounce bottles of malt liquor. You know when you're taking too long to finish the bottle, and the beer inside gets very flat in that time? It was like that the whole way through.

O- After reading the reviews, I was surprised by how bland this beer was. It wasn't offensive but it wasn't good either. It would be better if it had more carbonation. I have another bottle which of course I will drink when I'm looking for a cheap drunk. However, if you're only looking for a cheap drunk off of beer, your average Euro-Strong lager is a better option. Or, just get some Black Boss Porter or Zweic Porter. At least those beers have some character to it.

bought it because the bottle was interesting... we all make mistakes

Rarely do I pour a beer down the drain.... but this isn't a beer

Malt Liqueur?

Not too hard to get a high alcohol content when your crafting your beer out of sugar.

i'll say that at least the carbonation wasn't bad, but then there is the smell and taste.... I couldn't stomach it, but I suppose I like beer too much to handle it

Don't buy this, buy Steel Reserve, or some other malt liqueur that does a better job than this impostor

I purchased this bottle lured in by the cool optical illusion label and the promise of 12% ALC. Unfortunately, these turned out to be the only highlights of the experience. Out of the bottle the beer was a dark golden color with a very short lived head of tan foam. Minimal lacing. The aroma was of booze, ethanol and some skunked malt. The flavors were about the same, dominated by the booze and ethanol with hints of something fishy and an acidic bite. Pure unadulterated garbage. The mouthfeel was slick, the body medium and the carbonation average. Not worth it and sadly one of the worst beers I’ve had in a while.
