Alaus Kelias from Cygas & Kalkys. Purchased 10/20/20 for $2.11 (Including tax) for 19.2 oz can ($ 0.110/oz) from Shangy’s in Emmaus, PA. Reviewed 11/18/20.
Can marked on bottom “L22590 25.11.2019”. On room temperature shelf at store and stored at home at 42 degrees. Served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 56.3 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), hazy.
Body – Pale gold (SRM 4), hazy and translucent. When held to direct light, same.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.2 cm, aggressive center pour), antique white, high density, average retention, diminishing to a two to three mm crown fed by a few areas of effervescence and capped by many small islands. Second pour produces a tight 1.3 cm head which quickly drops to three mm.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Odd. Fruity with burlap and a bit of leather No hops, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.25 – Tastes a bit like the brown spots on apples along with some chewed burlap. No hops, no malt, no yeast. No alcohol (5.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, slightly syrupy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Odd but kind of intriguing – I keep taking another drink to make sure it actually tastes like I think it does. It does. The flavor kind of grows on me – next trip to Shangy’s I want to pick up several of these.
