Big thanks to SeaBass for the share. A: Pours a rich deep black nice tight mocha head. S: Very bold roasted aromas with strong notes of raw cocoa, and a hint of hershey syrup. T: Roasty goodness with loads and loads of rich cocoa. Subtle milk chocolate notes with a hint of dark fruit and a touch of smoke. M: Lighter in body, smooth, tasty as hell.

Pours a dark brown colour up to the light. Head is beige, very decent. Nice lacing. Clings. Looks a little pale for the style, but otherwise very nice.

Chocolate up the wazoo on the nose. Slight roast, but lots of sweet. Pleasant roasty with an English cleansing edge to it. Smells dark and potentially bitter, but a double layer of cocoa rich chocolate. Just lovely.

Taste is chocolatey, fairly rich. Slight dry cocoa and roast. Touch of smoke on the back. Pleasant flavours. A bit dry maybe, could have used more of that sweetness to the end, but very nice for the style.

Dry on the back, decent body. Not bad.

Well made very drinkable. Quite remarkable for 9.5%

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass. One finger light brown head with good retention and lacing. Nice strong aroma of toasted and charred malt, chocolate, mocha coffee, dark dried fruit, hint of vanilla. Flavor follows aroma with dark toasted, smoky malt, chocolate, lighter touches of dried fruit and molasses. Finishes somewhat thinner and drier with a long, residual hop bitterness. Nice creamy, medium body. A nicely made, full flavored (and very aromatic) RIS. The smokiness of the malt was deftly balanced. I liked this a lot.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Beer pours nearly all black with some brown at the edges when held up to a light with minimal head. Some alcohol legs and spots of lace when swirled.

Nose is milk chocolate, graham cracker, a touch of smokiness, and dark fruit. A little bit of licorice and soy sauce in there as well. A bit all over the place aroma wise.

Taking a sip, a bit of chocolate and caramel biscuit, smoked malt, soy sauce, card board. Flavors are all there but very muddled.

Medium full body with mild carbonation.

Reliant on intense roast character, Dugges' Russian Imperial Stout rides in on a balance of malt sweetness and starch to control the sometimes overbearing taste and texture of char.

And its with its black pour that impressions of roast begin. Capped with a moch-stained frothy head, the beer takes on espresso appearances with ease. High retention and broken lacy rings ensure a manly look until the very last sip.

All sorts of burnt aromas leap out of the glass immediately. Burnt grain, burnt toast, burnt caramel, campfire-ish burnt embers, burnt pine cones, and nuts all suggest strong coffee and cocoa flavors. A tinge of licorice accompany the rummy alcohol scents and offer something other than roasted aromas while heading into taste.

Initial charred flavors are just as roasty, smoky, and ashy as the nose promised. However, those first taste soon give way to other starchy sweetness of toffee, molasses, and sorghum that offer a buffer against the sharper edges of espresso beans, cocoa, and burnt wood. A late transition to dry toast and alcohol flavor reveals burnt fruit sweetness of black licorice and rum-flavored alcohol.

Full bodied with a creamy and silky middle, the beer isn't nearly as sharp, acrid, ashy, or abrassive on the palate as the roast scent and initial tastes suggest. It remains velvety and stern while soothing the palate like silky latte. Finishing warm, malty-dry, and with a pleasant roasty linger- the beer satisfies the palate in dessert-like fashion.

Idjit! is a spectacular Stout that continues the trend of Scandinavian beers with exorbitant roast character. But unlike most, this example is smooth and properly supported by malt sweetness and body and offers a more solid balance than many others.

On tap into a goblet at The Birch in Norfolk.

A: Poured with an immaculate amount of dark mocha colored head that stuck around seemingly forever. Was pitch black in the body. Just gorgeous

S: Simply put, I was not even attempting to smell it and the smell made its way to my nose while I was waiting for the head to dissipate. Smells like milk chocolate, hazelnuts, sweet dark fruits.

T: Tastes like it smells. More dark chocolate but absolutely no bite or heat to it at all. Also has a fresh, sweet nut flavor in the after taste to accent the chocolate flavors. Little plum and maple.

M: Full bodied, creamy. The head was extremely creamy and for a 9.5% beer, this complimented it very well.

O: I loved this RIS, it was easy drinking and at 9.5% ABV, I could still probably drink 2-3 of these in a sitting. It is definately a sipper but doesnt fill you up and it hides the alcohol better than any stout I've ever tasted to include FIS, FBS, Stone RIS and the likes. Highyl recommended (on tap at least...cant speak for bottles)

This 500 ml bottle was a gift, and I have no idea about its provenance, but I am told it had been cellared for 2 years prior to purchase. I can find no date of any kind.

The first impression is not good. The beer pours out very dark and thick, but with absolutely no carbonation. I don't necessarily need carbonation to enjoy a beer, but it's going to take more effort to tease out the aromas.

And effort it took. For an imperial stout -- or any beer for that matter -- this was remarkably free of aromas. I barely smelled anything, though what I did smell was quite unusual, perhaps best described as cola.

Aside from the carbonation, I thought it drank well. There were certainly more flavors on the tongue than in the nose. Mouthfeel was a bit thinner than predicted by the pour.

A - Pours pretty darned black, tan head, some cling lace.

S - Malt, coffee, a little dishtowel.

T - Extremely malty, coffee, booze pretty well hidden, softer overall than I would have thought.

M - Creamy, almost phlegmy, syrupy, heavy body, good carb and balance considering.

D - A sipper for the winter. Very nice.

I assume this is a 2012 release.

Pour is a black, cocoa head. When the glass is moved the carbonation keeps the retention alive.

Rich and sweet. Chocolate and coffee. Very bright.

Lots of roasted malt and espresso bean. Crazy dark chocolate bitterness. Slight citrus hop finish.

Not too thick but thick enough to have some chew but easy to drink. Expressive carbonation.

Really good, very bright, great stout.

Imperial Pint pour the Iron Abbey in Horsham PA. Cheers to the staff for the suggestion.

A: Dark walnut. Not much of a head but what is there is creamy and tan.

S: Impressive overall, licorice, burnt rubber but appealing

T: Roasted malts, licorice again, super yummy chocolates

M: Creamy thick mouthfeel, like whipped cream but smoother. "Medium"

O: One of my favorites in a night where I had many. This beer sacrifices nothing for its overall appeal. No reservations about getting it again. A solid, well made beer.

500ml bottle poured into my Great lakes snifter. It poured dark brown in color with a thin foam ring surrounding the edges of the glass. Pretty still looking, but decent lacing as I drank it.

The aroma shows a lot of roasted malts and cocoa flavors to it. It's got some nice dark chocolate notes to it as well. The alcohol does show though and makes it feel a little boozy at times. It comes together pretty well overall though.

I get a lot of bitter baking chocolate to it in the taste. More of the dark, bitter, roasted malts show up front, while some sweeter notes of caramel come through in the finish. Again, the flavors come together pretty well.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style, but also pretty slick and oily. Carbonation is low.
Pretty good beer overall. I thought the roasted bitterness, cocoa and dark chocolate all complimented each other very well. Good version of style overall, but not great.

Interesting brew. Poured at a good temperature with a small, tan - with brown highlights, foamy head that soon settled down and no lace. Color is an opaque black brown. Aroma is massive cocoa, with malt, and roast. Flavor's like nose plus include some molasses, toffee, and in the finish some coffee. Sweet is up front with some bitter to tone it down along with some carbonic tang. Body is soft and full, but has a few slight high bitter points. Finish is like flavor, slowly tapers, and has a slight alcohol warmth.

Very smooth beer, and somewhat subtly flavored. Pours with very low carbonation, and quite viscous. Very little head, but there is one- it just takes awhile to emerge from the motor-oil like consistency. Very subtle aromas of ash, roasted grains, and licorice. Much lighter than I expected it to be. The flavors are very heavy on the licorice and there is a noticeable ash flavor as well, but it's all bracketed by some smooth caramel, or maybe even toffee notes that sweetens up the licorice and is in turned checked by the ash. Interesting and somewhat unique flavors, but perhaps a bit too subtle.
