The colour is deep brown (35 EBC), the liquid is clear. The finger thick pale brown head is compact, it sinks slowly leaving no lacing on the glass.
The smell is malty with roasted notes of light coffee and sour hints that reminds of matured red wine. Sweet hints of caramel. Notable bitter flavours with floral and herbal notes. A touch of rubber in the background.
The taste is malty with some roasted nuts and light notes of coffee and milk chocolate. Floral notes, some dried apples and hay. Medium bitterness, medium body. The aftertaste reminds a bit of an English brown ale with roasted notes, wax/crayons and smooth bitter flavours. Cedar wood and molasses in the finish.
The carbonation is strong, but not sharp; the large bubbles are long-lived. The liquid is semi-smooth.
A refreshing and balanced take on the Oktoberfest theme: A well balanced Dunkel.
