I debated whether to post a review for this one, but it looks like I was not the only one who had this impression, and with so few reviews, I'd imagine more input is better input as far as the brewery is concerned - good or bad. Appearance is fine, brown-amber in color, decent head & retention. Never drank enough of it to get a feel for lacing. Smell is sour, cidery, and reminiscent of over-ripe fruit. Not appealing. Wondering if I had a bad bottle. Taste matches: sour, over-ripe. Mouthfeel would have been fine for the style, drinkability is, unfortunately, poor - I've never poured so much beer down the drain before. If I was the only one describing the same thing, I wouldn't have posted this review, but apparently it wasn't a bad bottle - maybe a bad batch?

This was a clear, amber brew with a thin layer of head that died away quickly. Haven't had more than a couple of dozen of the style, but I thought a little more head retention would have been nice. Color was good, however.

Aroma was of toasted grains, with some light hops. It was a little sweet, but overall somewhat mild. What impressed me the most is that it didn't have any trace of skunkiness that most lagers seem to have for me. Quite impressive.

Flavor was of toasted grains, with some slightly bitter hops. A little biscuity. Nice.

Mouthfeel was light and crisp. Very impressive. Did I mention that I really don't like lagers? This one definately made me rethink that statement.

Drinkability is high for this one. This could easily be a session beer for me. Way to go, guys! Probably the best of the style I have had to date.

Special thanks goes out to Wasatch for this one in a trade. 12oz bottle.

A: Light copper, with almost no head, what did bubble up is off white. A few chunks of lacing. Clear, and a fair amount of carbonation floatin around in there.

S: Roasted malts, and caramel, slightly bready, a faint hint at booze. Pretty light smelling but not too bad really.

T: Big time honey malt profile, slight hop bitterness way in the back. Really strong on the honey, with an underlying roasted flavor, almost like a dinner roll with a thick crust on it. Really a tasty lager. Sort of a nutty/butter flavor too. Simple and really tasty.

M: Nice carbonation, a little towards the thicker side, and a dry finish that begs for another sip. Spot on really.

D: Right there, I'd love to have a six pack of this. This is a tasty game day beer. All around good beer with a lot of nice things going on. Thanks John, I hope I can find this again.

Thanks goes out to ybnorml for this brew.

Pours a nice slight hazy golden brown color, nice carbonation, nice little creamy off-white head, with some nice sticky lacing hanging around. The nose is malty, slight citrus/spice. The taste is malty, sweet, very slight soury. Medium body. Drinkable, this is a nice one, pretty tasty.

Pours a chesnut brown with golden highlights at the edges, minimal soapy head is gone in seconds leaving nothing.

Smell is carmel, vanilla extract, slight citrus hop, bready yeasts.

Taste is nicely roasty for a Vienna, kind of got a mocha thing going on, more of a piney hop going on in the flavor, peppercorn, mellows out with a biscuit malt.

Mouthfeel is a bit assertive on the carbonation but the texture is just what it should be.

Highly drinkable, easy to go down, enough flavor to keep me interested.

I got this bottle in a trade with jwc215. Thanks Joe!

It pours a slightly hazy amber with a 1 finger head of foam. There's some light lacing and the head retention is quite good.

The smell has a big amount of caramel malt that is quite inviting. I'm not only a hophead at times, but I also love teh malt.

The taste *is* malty. I get some caramel and a touch of bread, but I can also taste some citrus hops and a bit of spice, the latter of which comes at me right before the finish. The finish, sadly, fades quickly and though, for most of each sip the mouthfeelis close to medium, the tail end leans toward the watery side.

Still, it's not a bad brew at all and it's pretty easy to drink. I could see myself having it again if was available locally.

12 oz bottle poured into my SA glass

A: amber/browmish in color with a minimal white head. a little cloudy

S: has a definite fruity aroma as well as light malt. rather bland on the nose. the pleasant fruit aroma kept this from a lower rating

T: some caramel, faint dark fruit and lightly hopped

M: moderate in body with light carbonation and a dry finish

D: o.k. but i won't visit again. An inoffensive, run of the mill brew.

Thanks to jcwattsrugger for a six-pack of this.

Pours slightly hazed amber with a thin white head.

The smell is of floral, slightly lemony, noble hops.

The taste falls short of the nose. It's okay, but weak. Some doughy yeast is supported by a mild sweetness and a touch of tea. Little flavor overall. It has a thin, dryish finish.

Rather watery with mild carbonation is does have a smoothness and crispness that gives it an easy-drinking, refreshing quality.

Easy-to-drink, but rather bland and not particularly memorable.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light brown color, with a thin white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of caramelized malts, nuts, hops and some spice.

T: The taste is very sweet with strong flavors of caramel, nuts and spices. There’s a pretty decent hops presence that provides some balance. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy. The after-taste is sweet with a little smokiness.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, very good representation of style and certainly one of the better beers that I’ve had in it, but might lean toward being an Altbier a bit. This one is a good beer to stick with for a long time one you’re used to the sweetness.

No lasting head, but the glass does have a light lace as I sip. Very accurate color--light copper and very clear.

Attractive pale malt aroma...without the grassy smells.

Hoppier than most Viennas, but still has a solid malt base. It has some of flavors I associate with a amber ale. The body is spot on while the carbonation seems slightly on the high side. The aftertaste shows off the malt flavoring. Refreshing but lacking complexity.

Enjoyable and unremarkable.

The beer pours a hazy dark gold/amber color with a thick frothy offwhite head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is terrible. It has a sour, fruit ester scent that ruins the Vienna malt scent. It's almost cidery in smell. The taste is bad also. At first it seems nice and malty with some residual sweetness, but then the sourness hits you in the finish. There must be something wrong with this bottle. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a definate drain pour. It's one and done for me.

I enjoyed their red ale, and thought I'd give this a try. Nice beer. An amber color with a small head. Grainy aroma. Malty/grainy taste, with a little hops. Pleasant enough beer. This is a good session beer, not outstanding, but certainly not a dud.

Pored into my Smutty Big Beer glass yielding a decent half inch head that quickly fades. Appears an iced tea autumn brown. Aroma is truely bready - all malt throughout the senses - calling me.

The malt hits the pallet running aas a mild carbonation rolls across the tongue ushering in just a hint of hops. The hops quickly disappears into a citrus sourness and then flattens out into malt aftertaste, I guess.

Not too bad a brew and I could drink this as an alternative option once in a blue moon. Could not drink them in abundance, howevere. Thanks ppoitras for enabling me to give this a try.

12ozer bought as a single from Julio's, Westboro, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a minimal 1/4" off-white head over the clear dark golden amber brew. Head is quickly down to an uneven layer of bubbles and film, with prevalent delicate lacing. Aroma is more or less what I expect from a Vienna Lager, biscuity malts upfront, with an almost tart fruitiness. Taste continues along the same lines, but with the fruitiness more dominant than the grains at the start or the crisp hops close. Mouthfeel is pretty good, smooth but a tad rocky with the hops at the swallow, and drinkability is in the same vein. Nice standard offering, nothing too standout, but I could revisit this one without a problem.

Okay, I tried this one the day after trying their Irish Red; and I gotta say I was a little disappointed. Nice yellow straw color at the start which almost seemed to fade. There wasn't much going on in the taste department; but it sure did go down easy. Not a lot in the smell category either-and it was a little hard to place.

I think I'll have to give this one another try.

I'd consider this one as an everyday pounder beer, when taste isn't important, but quality ingredients and easy drinkability are.

Poured a medium copper and ruby hue with a one finger foamy head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell was subtle. A mild biscuity malt and flowery hop aroma.

The taste featured a light malt backbone with mild noble hop spiciness.

The mouthfeel was clean yet slightly chewy. Good carbonation.

Overall a good example of the style.

Pours a beautiful dark caramel with a great looking light orange on the bottom that leaves a thick tan head that stays with this lager. The aroma is caramel, citrus, lemon rind, and various spices. The taste is so smooth and drinkable, very malty upfront, has a great crisp tart smack upfront but balanced by a honey sweetness. This beer is chewy and big filled with alot of character. This is a very fine Vienna lager one of the best I've had in awhile.
