First of all this place is truly exceptional, in every sense of the word. I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to review it (laziness!). Ebenezer's is located in a great spot, right near Kezar Lake in Lovell, ME. Yes, it is off the beaten path but I believe that is one of the aspects about the place that makes it so enticing. When you finally arrive for the first time it's like you have found some sort of secret club that is too good to be true.
There is a screened in porch area that is available for dining in the summer, however the bar is the main attraction. The taps always feature great Belgian options like Val-Dieu, Delirium, St. Bernardus, etc. One of the only places I have seen a green lambic! Only the best from domestic brewers as well, Ommegang, Dogfish Head, Allagash and others in rotation. There seems to always be some vintage of Bigfoot on draft as well.
The cooler behind the bar is just overflowing with goodies. This has to be one of the finest bottle selections in the country. Not only great beers, but different vintages, rarities, and sizes ranging from small to enormous. 9 L St. Feuillien anyone? The menu really only scratches the surface of what is available, so definitely ask what is available.
All this being said, I believe what really sets Ebenezer's apart is the service. Chris and co. are just great hosts with a great passion for what they do. If you want to learn more about beer and sample some of the great examples of various styles, this would be a great place to spend some time. It's worth seeking out!

now for the review!
The epitome of a Diamond in the Rough. The drive there is so nice. The southern edge of the Appalachians hang over Kezar Lake, an ideal spot in both the summer and winter whether you want to ski, hike, swim, snowmobile, golf, etc. As for the bar itself, just a good, friendly bar atmosphere and located right next to a golf course to boot! Atmosphere is a 5 for sure.
Owner just happened to be in Cali which was unfortunate because I would've loved to talk beer with him. Because I had to drive, I limited myself to one beer and a Belgian sample: Peche Mortel and La Gnomette II, but I will force someone to DD for me on a trip here someday. The Peche Mortel was $8/12 oz. which is great considering it's much more expensive elsewhere. Certainly fine quality and service.
The selection. Un####ing real if you enjoy Belgians. He had them all there. Four cooler doors of Belgians practically but some other interesting stuff there as well. Several aged versions of SN Bigfoot dating back to the late 90s, some aged JW Lees, and aged Thomas Hardy's. Most expensive bottle I saw was the 1975 Thomas Hardy's Ale for $400.
One could certainly spend a nice day/weekend up in Maine and make this a must-stop on the trip.

My family camped at Kezar Lake years ago, so when I heard about Ebenezer's, I knew right where to go. You could drive right by this typical Maine farmhouse...but don't! A selection of beers( mostly Belgium), that would rival Monks in Philly, are available at this pub.
The owners,Chris and Jeni are approachable and very beer savvy. The hard work they put into the pub is evident,and they should be proud.
Special events are scheduled yearly including a vintage beer tasting! I'd reccomend a visit to the website for dates and for the extensive beer list.
The menu is wonderful as well...the sirloin tips I had were to die for!
Any beer geek heading to Maine/New Hampshire has got to add this to the itinarrary...It's forever on mine!

When Beer Advocate listed the top 50 places to drink a beer, there was one glaring omission. Ebenezer's Pub should be in the top 10, if not Number 1.
Ebenezer's is located in tiny Lovell, Maine, on a back road off a golf course. If you weren't looking for it, you'd never find it, which would be a shame, because you'd be missing out on a truly mystical experience.
Out front of a house is a quaint sign of a Dickensian character. A flag announced that the pub was open. You're looking out over the golf course as you enter a screened porch. Nothing too exceptional there. As you enter the bar from the porch, you're transported to an Old World kind of place. Beautiful bar, some tables. Behind the bar are 15 taps, half of which are Belgians. To the right of the taps is a refrigerator with hundreds of different beers. In fact, Chris Lively, the owner, says he has over 500 different beers in bottles!
Since we were there with my sister and her grandkids, we sat on the porch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and watched golfers take aim at us (the porch is right behind the 2nd green).Chris came out and introduced himself, and I put myself in his hands. I began with Abbaye Val Dieu trippel, which was wonderful. I then went to a sampler of some of the other drafts. Gulden Drak, Duchesse de Bourgnonne, St Bernardus Witte, and Leute Bok. All were served (including the Leute Bok) in the appropriate glassware. I finished the samples with 2004 Bigfoot. The final beer was a bottle of 1998 Bigfoot, a sublime experience. Chris had Bigfoot from 1997 on up, lots of Rogues, Unibroue, a zillion Belgians, and many, many more that I just couldn't take in.
Food was excellent, ranging from appetizers to pub fare to entrees. Fresh ingredients, well-prepared, and reasonably priced. While there's no kids' menu, our waitperson said the kitchen could make anything the kids wanted. Of course, they wanted hot dogs, but they could have had most anything. And, at least during the day, this is a place you could bring kids.
Chris is very knowledgeable and entertaining. He loves beer, and clearly wants his customers to feel at home and comfortable in his establishment. I can't rate Ebenezer's highly enough. It is a must stop if you're in the area, but I would also consider it a destination for any beer lover.

Ebenezer's is near Kezar Lake, just off of Rt. 5, about a 35 minute drive from North Conway.
The pub is adjacent to a golf course, with some screened in porch-like areas and a kozy smallish bar area.
Right off the bat, you're taken back that you have stepped into a belgian oasis in where is pretty much, the middle of nowhere.
Chris, the owner, (BA Delerium), has some great credentials, with stints at both the Toronado and Lucky Baldwins.
What we have to gain from this is his connections to great belgian bottles and draught, as well as his experience on how to properly serve them.
A copper clad bar fronts the 14 taps, one beer engine, and a cooler chock full of goodies.
Lots of plackards on the walls, a dead Jeraboom in the window, plenty of authentic glassware hanging atop the bar.
Blues in the background kept things lively, and time passes fast here, especially on a cold, rainy day.
Belgians on draft as of 1/14/06 were:
Bier De Buckeneer
Cherish Raspberry lambic
Scotch de Silly
Every beer we tried were served in the appropriate glassware including the Kwak (with stand) and the Buckanier boot.
The bottle list is impressive too, with lots of vintage stuff and beers I have never seen in Maine- including:
Multiple years of Bigfoot,Westy 12, '98 Vapeur Cachonne, De Dolles.
For food we shared a sampler platter and onion rings, all were crispy, hot, and tasty. The rest of the menu looked appetizing as well.
Service was quick and friendly, and we were able to meet Chris and catch up on the background on him and Ebenezer's.
Great spot, great beers, and well worth the trip.
Ebenezer's is now open on Fridays and Saturdays only, 4-close.
Recently attended a vintage tasting/ dinner at Ebenezer's and we were able to enjoy first class hospitality and food.
The following is the post of a recap from that night:
A sold out crowd convened upon the beer oasis known as Ebenezer's yesterday, on the outskirts of a Maine hamlet called Lovell.
The drooling mix of locals and long-aways descended upon the sun-drenched hideaway as the hour passed four.
Many were giddy (as myself), and some seemed just anxious, not knowing what exactly was afoot..
First up.... A welcome beer, take your pick from 14 draught belgians. My wife and I settled in with a lemonade and a Bier de Buccaneer.
Chris Lively welcome everyone with a pairing of 2006 Vapeur Cochonne vs. the 1996 version, both from 750ml bottles.
An extreme example of how ten years in a bottle can change a beer.
Hot, crisp, frites accompanied the Vapeurs, with homemade mayonnaise for dipping.
Next up, 750's of 1995 Vapeur Saison de Pipaix. Not too shabby..
Mixing it up a bit, Chris and Jen brought out some 2001 Aventinus Dopplebock, one of 250 cases reserved from that year..Rock on..
A bed of mixed greens with dried cranberries and carmelized onions played off the Aventinus well, dressed with 1999 Oudbitje.
Stepping it up a notch, 2004 JW Lees Harvest (Calvados) was served up with great care, followed by a last minute addition to the tasting... 2002 Gales Jubilee ale.. Wowza. Hard to sip with a permanent grin!
The evening continued with entrees being served and the crowd really warming up at this point.
The 1999 A. Le Coqs paired well with my herb-crusted roast duck with root vegetables.
Next up, a magnum of 2006 of Chimay grand reserve, not old, but from the first batch to arrive this year.
Back to the dark ones again, 1997 Carnegie Porter was complex and vineous.
Flakey, juicy, blueberry pie was to accompany a Jeraboam of 2002 Chimay grand reserve, followed by... Say hello to my little friend, a methesleboam of St. Fullien blonde, personally retrieved that same day by one dedicated father in law. It was extremely fresh, and no date was found on the bottle or cork. 9 liters of heaven.
After the four courses drew to a close, Chris started up the vertical tasting of JW Lees Harvest ale, ranging from 2005 to 1998 (I think.. the notes are real iffy at this point).
The final crescendo of the evening was the lottery portion of the tasting. Different beers were split up to different tables, with some of the lotto beers being: 1999 magnum of Leifmans Goudenband,
1995 Samiclaus, a sixer of vertical bigoot, ranging back to 1997.
An incredible evening and huge beer karma goes out to Chris, Jen, his staff, the distributor he works with, and certainly B. United.
Chris now has in the vicinity of 36 taps flowing and the selection is mind-blowing.
They also continue beer events of which are of the highest order.
Ebenezer's continues to bring it to a "whole nutha level".
