Growler courtesy of Elizabeth. How cool is it when your wife's friend calls from the brewery and asks what I'd like her to bring us? Pretty damn cool if you ask this guy. I have no background information about this beer and had never heard of it before looking at the tap list.
Yellow orange with a substantial white fluff but a disappointing lack of lacing.
Smell is very mellow: malt, light orange peel, and chive.
Lemon and big doughy malts up front. Some orange pokes through the middle but is quickly swallowed up by an unrefined and metallic bitter finish. Aftertaste is a scraping and harsh bitterness along the tongue.
Mouthfeel is on the lighter end, but the aftertaste is incredibly distracting.
While I am thrilled and humbled that someone thought of me enough to grab this and bring it home for me, this is another in a relatively undistinguished line of IPA's from Founders. Their hoppy stuff just doesn't push the right buttons for me.

Had on tap at the brewpub and purchased a growler to go. Pours a clear orangish yellow color with a nice, frothy, billowing head. Nose is fruity, citrus, grapefruity hops...not much of a malt presence in the aroma. Taste opens up with citrusy lemon notes. These move on to a little bit of bread and biscuit malts. These move on to a barrage of hops - citrus, earthy onion, a touch of pine. Somehow all of these hop flavors blend together nicely and yet arent as bold and hoppy as other DIPAs I have tried. This is a good IPA, but I was hoping for a touch more from Founders - definitely worth a shot, hop heads will enjoy it of they are in the brew pub.
