A: Dark reddish brown in color. Dark, but still rather translucent. Clear. Forms a moderate sized head that reduces fairly quickly to a bunch of big bubbles. Eventually reduces down to a patchy surface coating. Light lacing.
S: Sweet aroma chock full of hazelnuts and hazelnut liqueur with a blend of lightly roasted coffee. Unsurprisingly, this one smells much the way Frangelico does.
T: Taste is rather sweet with notes of hazelnut, marzipan, coffee, and some light vanilla. Coffee flavor is pretty strong on the first half of the bottle, but seems to subside and give way to the strong hazelnut flavor. Unfortunately, the hazelnut is so strong it comes off as being artificial with a bit of a chemical aftertaste to it.
M: Medium bodied, but rather thin for the style. There is an artificial, chemically mouthfeel to this beer and it finishes with the astringency of cheap coffee.
O: This beer is a bit of a dichotomy. On the one hand, it is novel and the flavors seem to work. On the other, it is sweet, not at all subtle, and simply tastes artificial. As I was drinking it (and I should mention I was incapable of finishing the bottle), I felt as this was some sort of new Starbucks Frapucinno flavor that I should be serving it over ice with a straw instead of in a glass. But, in all honesty, if Starbucks sold this stuff, I couldn't see ever buying it from them either.

I had this 5/24/13 despite it only being brewed once and over a year old.
The color is a cloudy brown, light white white head.
The aroma has hazelnut coffee, sweet caramel, and vanilla. It really pushes the suggestion of what it's to be, hazelnut coffee.
The flavor is at first just huge caramel. Then there's mostly caramel and big roast flavors that you wouldn't get from most brown ales. There's a light coffee flavor. The big roast flavor is huge and at 9% ABV this is a dangerous beer with the mouthfeel.
There is a slight bitter finish so the hops show, despite the age.
With comparison, this has a lot of similarities obviously with Rogue Hazelnut Brown, but with more coffee and a much bigger roasted malt. It's one of the best brown ales I've had. How wonderful tasting.

750ml bottle into large snifter. Thanks jbck109!
A: Pours a deep nutty caramel brown with a thin, bubbly, light tan head that faded into a thick collar leaving wisps of soapy lace down the glass.
S: Rich and sweet notes of hazelnut and buttery nuts dominate followed by light hints of light roasted coffee and roasted malt.
T: More buttery greasy nutty taste, hazelnut, light roast, milk chocolate, and a hint of raisin and vanilla.
The finish is slightly bitter with lingering flavors of hazelnuts and caramel, and the aftertaste is full of coffee, brown sugar and vanilla.
M: Full bodied, slick, greasy and smooth mouthfeel, with low carbonation.
O: I love that the hazelnut overpowers the coffee. A great example of hazelnut in beer. Very delicious, thanks Jay!
