This review taken from notes written about two weeks ago, as I recently moved and did not have internet access, but didn't let that stop me from reviewing.
I intended on a nice leisurely pour into a snifter with this one, and ended up up-ending it just for a half finger of sandy colored head. This dissipated in a minute to leave nothing on top of the beer but a thick ring. Body was a nice orange-brown color.
The aroma on this is all malt. Caramel malt is strong and a hint of bready malt is detected after some searching. Raisins and figs are also a nice strong aroma here, and I detected a whiff or two of alcohol on the end.
The taste was to the nose, with the addition of a nice bitterness on the end that just drew me in and made me want more. Sweeter than expected.
I found this beer nice and thick. Full bodied, with carbonation that was just enough to ease it over your tongue. Although I caught a bit of alcohol in the nose, it was not apparent anywhere else in the beer.

Appearance- Rich dark brown, almost black color. Moderate foamy head atop lingers around for a bit, then settles to a few spots. Decent lacing throughout.
Smell- Malts, coffee, caramel. Some other less obvious tones as well.
Mouthfeel- Medium to thick body on the palet. Just a slight hint of carbonation hits the tongue. Somewhat chewy the longer it is allowed to linger.
Taste- Somewhat heavy. Coffee and caramel on the front. Malts are what primarily make up this beer. Has a somewhat smokey flavor to it. Leaves a bit of alcohol on the end. Aftertaste leaves a somewhat bland stale flavor. Burly is the word that comes to mind when drinking this beer.
Overall- Very nice beer. Even nicer is its availability, at least here in Cleveland. Basic flavors surround this beer and seems to fit well to its style. Overall a good drink for the seasoned beer drinker, may ward off those who aren't.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Light scents of honey, molasses, and cloves. The color is a beautiful, deep reddish-brown or mahogany. Tastes of burnt-sugar, sourdough, toasted marshmallows, and currants on the fore. Lemongrass, oranges, and piney on the finish, with a nice, light hoppiness and a slight taste of alcohol. A wonderful beer through and through. Very well-balanced. If I had to say that it left anything to be desired, perhaps I'd enjoy a tad more hops on the finish, but that would really be nit-picking.
