Serving type: 12-ounce bottle. The “BOTTLED” date is “05/29/12.”

Appearance: Poured into a tulip glass. The color is opaque black; no light passed through when I held it to a light. A lousy pour produced a finger of tan head, which dissipated quickly to leave a very thin lacing and ring around the edge.

Smell: Lots o’ chocolate. Black licorice, chocolate-covered cherries, plum. The roasted malt and espresso emerges slowly as the beer warms. It also has an oak-like smokiness and brandy-like booziness.

Taste: The chocolate from the smell takes a backseat to roasted malts, reminiscent of straight black coffee. The dark chocolate is still there providing balance. There is a hint of black licorice and maybe plum, too. I still get a little smokiness and brandy.

Drinkability: It is a pretty solid brew; tasty and thick. It does not set itself apart but it is good drinking.

355ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£2.60):
Opaque mahogany colour, almost black. Has a thin, medium brown head with red tinges about 0.5cm tall and holds great with some lacing too.

Light coffee with some roasted malts, hints of chocolate and a nice earthy aroma that is light but noticeable. The aroma is a rich some with some sweet caramel touches with some light bitterness.

Sweet malts with some roasted one on top and a good helping of chocolate. The beer is lighter than I was expecting and quite rich too with a tiny but of spice right at the end.

Medium, very smooth, some rich and sweet flavours. The balance of the beer is pretty much perfect and the beer is clean with a dry, sweet finish.

Brilliant beer that is not as dark or heavy as I was expecting but it managed to have a great balance between the sweet malts and the darker, roasted malts that follow. A very easy beer to drink and one that goes far too fast.

Dark, Rich, and Sexy, yes it is!

While I am still new to the characteristics of beer, I will try my best.

Nice dark color, and comes to a good head.

Tastes amazing, creamy and sweet with hints of coffee and cocoa

Texture is a little thin but the flavor makes up for any shortfalls in this beer.

This beer is amazing, and I have yet to find another Porter that is equal!
