Enjoyed 11/24/2012 from the bottle

Appearance: Dark, dark brown. Creamy brown head.
Aroma: Dark chocolate, smooth roastiness

Taste: Lots of dark chocolate, roasted bitterness. Very creamy.

Mouthfeel: Very silky, creamy feel. Really nice. Not overly thick (as in, not imperial stout kind of thick).

Overall: Mouthfeel is great. Nice head retention and lacing too, but too much roasted bitterness for me. Would like it a touch more balanced.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, bottled on 5/8/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt, coffee, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt notes with light hop presence; and good strength. Taste of chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toast, floral, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Moderate coffee/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, toast, caramel, light pine, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic balance and complexity of roasted malt flavors with a light-moderate hop presence; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent porter! Great balance and robustness of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A highly enjoyable offering as expected.

Poured out of a stubby brown 12 oz bottle into a 50 cL glass stein. Bottle doesn't seem to have a bottling or freshness date, but I know that this bottle is about 6 months old.

Appearance - Aggressive pour yields a half-finger of light foam, which dissipates quickly--about 60 seconds. The color is wheat bread and sits atop a rich almost-black chestnut brown colored body. Foam settles as a rim around the edge of the glass, with a faint etching of lace across the surface.

Smell - Hard to pick up at first, but gets stronger as it warms. Roasted notes and faint sweetness, with some hints of leather and fresh soil.

Taste - Semisweet chocolate and burnt caramel up front. Those flavors evolve into a stronger element of bittering hops and burnt toast on the aftertaste. Some licorice element as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Rich and smooth, but only medium-bodied. A light but present amount of carbonation tingle. Finish is viscous and lingering.

Overall a wonderfully drinkable porter, with a complex flavor. Given that it's fairly easy to get in my neck of the woods, I imagine I'll have this one many more times.

Poured this one into a pint glass for a half finger of mocha colored head. This broke up rather quickly and left not much more than a ring on top of a dark cola-colored body. Lace clings then slowly descends the side of the glass.

This smells deliciously of roasty malts, dark chocolate and a kiss of coffee.

Roasted malt and a hint of dark fruit starts off the flavor. Coffee and a taste of earthy hops seem to take over, and then the finish is all chocolate and malt.

The mouthfeel on this is a solid medium body. I honestly think the carbonation is a little too biting. It nips at the tongue quite a bit on this one. Lightly coats the tongue, slightly dry finish.

Appearance: Very dark chestnut, almost black; small tan head dissipates quickly with little lacing

Aroma: Bitter roasted grains; earthy hops; coffee

Taste: Bitter roasted grains up front; creamy mouthfeel in the mid with good malt character and dried figs; ends with a smooth, bitter finish and dry aftertaste

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores
