*It should be noted that this bottle was 10 months old at the time of consumption.*

Pours nearly black with no noticeable highlights and a modest mocha head that settles rapidly. Smells of bittersweet chocolate and fresh ground coffee of the highest caliber--not overpowering, but delicious all the same. Simply sitting there and sniffing this brew is enjoyable in and of itself.

The taste is more muted than the nose would suggest, with the chocolate taking more of a back seat to the roasted tones of the malt. Letting it warm some is strongly advised to bring out the flavor. The hops assert themselves just enough to make their presence known while still blending seamlessly with the rest. The front end has a prickly acridity and slightly vegetal character that I don't recall in past experiences with this beer, so I suspect it may be a result of the excess age. The finish still has a pleasant, roasty musk to it.

Overall, not quite as good as I remember, but I fathom giving a fresh bottle a go may solve that. With that said, this was still a smooth, flavorful porter with a beautiful aroma and just the right amount of body.

Poured this one into a pint glass for a half finger of mocha colored head. This broke up rather quickly and left not much more than a ring on top of a dark cola-colored body. Lace clings then slowly descends the side of the glass.

This smells deliciously of roasty malts, dark chocolate and a kiss of coffee.

Roasted malt and a hint of dark fruit starts off the flavor. Coffee and a taste of earthy hops seem to take over, and then the finish is all chocolate and malt.

The mouthfeel on this is a solid medium body. I honestly think the carbonation is a little too biting. It nips at the tongue quite a bit on this one. Lightly coats the tongue, slightly dry finish.

Appearance: Very dark chestnut, almost black; small tan head dissipates quickly with little lacing

Aroma: Bitter roasted grains; earthy hops; coffee

Taste: Bitter roasted grains up front; creamy mouthfeel in the mid with good malt character and dried figs; ends with a smooth, bitter finish and dry aftertaste

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores
