On tap at the brewpub. Really liked this wheaty black IPA. Imperial style head on very dark body. Substantive alcohol. More IPA than roast, and above average fuller mouthfeel. A good one though a sipper, an American strong ale plus the wheat and roast.

AgentZero said it best: "My love for you is like a truck, BERSERKER!" The next line might be better, though.
On tap at Founders last weekend. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a very dark brown, bordering on black. Nice off-white head and some good lacing. The nose starts off with a touch of roast along with some light pine hops and a bit of citrus. Slightly earthy. Flavor is the same components plus a bit of wheat character. Interesting. Light-medium body with a dry finish. Good, but not the best hoppy brew I've had from Founders.

This was described as a Black Wheat IPA. Served in a pint glass at Founders. I dig the Clerks references in the name.
A - Dark brown body, with molasses colored highlights when held to the light. Served with a finger of dark tan foam that settles to a partial cap and collar, leaving glass-coating lace.
S - Smell is quite nice, with citrus and floral hops, a touch of herb, and some pleasant roasted and chocolate malts.
T - Taste is solid, but not quite as impressive as the aroma. Less overt hop flavor and more toasted grains and baker's chocolate. Some moderate-to-high bitterness from the roasted malts and hops rounds things out. Could use a bit more mid-palate flavor.
M - Seemed a touch thin for 7.1%, but otherwise quite nice. Smooth medium body, lower carbonation, and a nice dry finish with plenty of residual hop oils and resinous character.
D - Very easy to drink. I don't get much in the way of wheat, but thankfully this beer avoids being overly astringent and charry like some other Black IPAs. Split a glass with my wife, and purchased a growler to share with the Chicago crowd. Worth trying if you're in Grand Rapids.

My love for you is like a truck, BERSERKER!
Best movie-reference beer name ever.
A - Dark brown beer with a beige head that left some random spots on the sides.
S - Smells like a solid black IPA, with citrus and floral hops, some crystalized malt. The usual chocolate and earth you get from one of these types of beers.
T - Some roast and chocolate, with some herbal bitterness on the end. There is a bit of citrus hops in there, but the nose is a little better.
M - Medium bodied, fairly active carbonation, finishes fairly dry.
O - Nice beer. It's a solid black IPA, and that scores some points there as a lot of them are just plain misses. Could drink and enjoy this again. Also have a sudden desire to go watch "Clerks."
Would you like some making fuck, BERSERKER!

Growler thanks to Alex!
A - Pours black, off-white colored head, spotty lace, nice collar.
S - Very piney, nice roasted malts, floral.
T - Nice mix of roasted malts and bitter/floral hops. Neither overpowering the other...actually complimenting.
M - Light, crisp and refreshing, good carbonation, creamy finish.
O - Another enjoyable beer from Founders. Glad I was able to try this one. The malts and hops are excellent with one another here. I have to be in the mood for this style, but otherwise, I'd have again.

A- Dark brown.borderline black beer. White head. Above average lacing and head retention.
S- Floral smelling with a hint of roasted malts.
T- Roasty up front, but finishes with floral hops. Chocolate notes. Very unique...the best of both worlds. Drinks a tad bit boozier than 7.1%abv.
M- Full mouthfeel. Creamy but good carbonation. Held up well a week in the growler.
D/O- I really liked this one. Roasty characteristics but with *plenty* of hop presence. I could see this being a staple if bottled (always available). Thanks Kirk!

I was probably most impressed with this of all the beers I tried on my visit to the pub. Not because it was the best but because it was the best of what I hadn't already had from Founders. This was a nice tasting Black ipa, I think that this will be a style we see a lot more of from many craft brewers and I welcome it. Nice roasty, toasted hop, and some malt flavor. A little bit of everything and I like it all.
