Had on-tap during my first trip to founders...was one of my favorites from the trip.
A-Ruby colored...light to medium head...very nice looking.
S-Cherry smell all over the place while dancing with the scent of a nice bourbon...again..very nice.
T-First thing I got was cherry that progresses into the creaminess of the bourbon...then back to cherry...the two dominant flavors mesh quite well w/ one another. A nice sweetness to each other.
M-medium to medium high carbonation...a little dry.
D-high...I loved this beer while at founders b/c of the quality and taste...but also b/c of how unique it is...I had multiple pours and had I not wanted to sample other things would have had more.

Pours clear red with minimal head. Smell is prominent cherries, with nice bourbon notes of vanilla and oak. Also a faint sweetness in the aroma. A nice cherry tartness up front, followed by smooth vanilla and oaky bourbon notes. After the initial sips, a sweetness becomes more apparent and a little overwhelming over time. Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat sticky, thought the carbonation help brighten it and prevent it from feeling heavy. As with most fruit beers, one is enough and a smaller serving is preferable, but this is enjoyable and would make a nice dessert or night cap.

Taken--by me, by force, almost uncomfortably sexually--at Dark Lord Day. I never, ever would have guessed its ABV to be much higher than 4.0%.
Pours a reddish yellow. Not the bright, candied cherry of Wisconsin Red, but reasonably close to cherry puree.
Smells like cherries and vanilla, like some kind of goddamn wonderful smoothie with absolutely no hint of alcohol.
And... that vanilla taste was from bourbon aging? Hot damn! This is the least bourbony bourbon-aged beer I've ever had, though. Instead of imparting a burny whiskiness, as the process usually does, it instead adds a robustness to the cherry and vanilla melange, making it have the delicious punch of a jelly while maintaining the quaffable medium-body of a beer.

Had this on tap at Dark Lord Day 2011. It was a golden color with a little bit of a pink tinge and a surprising bourbon/vanilla/oak smell. I loved it because that lovely boozey bourbon takes center stage sandwiched between a genuine tart cherry beginning and end, but I can see that it wouldn't be for everyone. The body is also nice and sticky, giving the beer some real weight in the mouth. I would definitely seek this out again... a strong fruit beer that's not afraid to embrace alcohol!

A- Pours an odd reddish color with nice creamy head. Head has ok retention and leaves very little lacing.
S- Smells very sweet. I picked up the cherries right away and know I was in trouble. Also picked up a bit of booze and wood. Not a fan of cherries.
T- There it is the ultra sweet fake cherry taste that I hate. I can't really taste too much else here and not really picking up any booze at all.
M- Medium in body and carbonation.
D- I couldn't finish my glass. I'll pass on this one.

Pours a light cherry red with a soft light tan head that leaves good lacing.
Smells strongly of bourbon whiskey. The alcohol is very present in the nose but cherry is also something that can be picked up.
Wow, what a flavor! The cherry is a standout and bourbon is also present, but not overly done. It is surprising how well the alcohol is concealed in the flavor given how much it stands out in the nose!
Medium to light body. Likely thinned out from the ABV.
Great brew! Worth paying the price.

Served on tap in a taster glass at the Haymarket Founders event.
Appearance: Newaygo has a full cherry color and a nice tan head that fades to a ring, leaving a bit of lace.
Smell: Cherry mostly, with touches of maple and oak. Pale malt, tart apple skin, and white grape provide a bit of support.
Taste: Quick pale malt, then mildly sweet tart cherries. A hit of brown sugar and vanilla. Mostly sour with some sweet spots and an oak overlay. It stays sour through the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation. A little bit dry, which makes it feel lighter than it is. Some puckering effects.
Drinkability: Quite tasty. I like how the barrel aging interacts with the tartness.

A - Copper/burnt amber color that's a little cloudy bit a bit of head.
S - Overly sweet cherry smell and sugar, wrapped in a lot of bourbon. Lots of wood and vanilla.
T - This tastes like an overly sweet cherry beer with a dollup of brandy and a lot of vanilla and wood. While quite flavorful, it is much too sweet for my liking and a bit sugary.
M - Very sugary and thick, a lot of carbonation.
D - Too sweet to the point of hard to drink. Not horrible, but the overt sweetness made it hard to get through my four ounce pour.

On-tap at Haymarket. 4oz pour in a stange.
A - Served with a half-finger of persistent white foam that settles to a thick collar, leaving behind spotty lace. The body is a hazed copper color.
S - Bourbon, oak, maple, vanilla, and some faint cherries. As it warms up a little bit of caramel malt character emerges.
T - The taste is heavy on vanilla and maple, with some tart and sweet cherry pie and sugary malt in in there as well.
M - Sticky, chewy, medium-full body. Light tannic and sticky finish. Not much overt alcohol heat.
D - This was pretty solid, but I think 4oz is the appropriate serving size. It's very sweet and would become cloying if it were served in 12oz bottles.
