Beautiful deep caramel color. Descent head for the style and alcohol strength. Sticky ivory colored lacing.

Smell is intoxicating, not only from the alcohol character but also from the smooth, dream-like sweetness that seeps through the nostrils and floods the brain. Spicy, sherry-like quality with toffee sweetness. After my first sniff, I had to retreat from the glass in awe, unable to comprehend what I had just experienced. Amazing!

Flavor is completely unexpected and delicious. The malt character is complex and intricate. Sweetness consists of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, ripe figs and dates. Also nutty (cashew) notes which are fresh and unroasted. Hops provide a subtle, earthy bitterness which seems to exist in the unconscious mind and must be searched for to discover. The alcohol adds a hint of scotch flavor but does not overpower the palate.

Full-bodied, rich and smooth feel. No sticky, syrupy feel. Respectable level of carbonation.

Yet again, Founders delivers a true masterpiece in brewing.
