Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Slightly hazy, medium golden color with a peripheral ring of white bubbles. Light lacing remains on the glass and a few solitary bubbles rise lazily in the column.

S: Dank herbaceous hops are strong, with other hop-derived tropical fruit more reserved. Malt is present but subordinate to integrated hops and yeast metabolites, delivering a blend of bready and crackery qualities. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins off-dry, with heavy base malt presence and herbaceous-pine hop aromatics that lack the fruitiness of the nose. Acidity is moderate into the middle where precocious bitterness takes hold, growing steadily until it becomes one of this beer's defining qualities. Mild esters are suggested, while malt qualities vanish toward the finish. At its peak the bitterness is is beyond bracing, pure and unmodified on the palate, with the ability to linger for an extended duration. No alcohol is detected.

M: Medium viscosity, astringent and evaporative on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This DIPA is unmistakably of Founders origin, showing off a collection of qualities from a few other pale ales. While malt never really gains much purchase in the flavor of this beer, the malt component of the smell reminds of the wonderful Founder's Harvest Ale. Flavors are more reminiscent of Devil Dancer, although that other beer is more like a distilled and syrup-ified version this product. The hue is inspiring, indicative of a deep understanding by the brewers of how an IPA is supposed to look, although the conspicuous lack of head development detracts. It is a decent DIPA, although it could benefit from a shift of hop additions more toward the back-end.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours a really nice yellow color with a finger of soapy white head, mid range lacing.
S - Very floral in aroma with some nice pineapple and lime hints.
T - The floral and pine hit you first, and then you get a nice touch of some ripe pineapple and a touch of honey, some real balanced light malt and a touch of dankness as it finishes.
M - Kind of cloyingly sweet at first, but fades to a nice bitter end.
O - This is a very well done Double IPA, crisp and fresh flavors, but a bold brew by all means. A must have for IPA lovers.
