Breakfast Stout must be a newly brewed. I just procured Breakfast Stout from my local grocer. Pretty good supplier. 4 for $10. Poured from the bottle. Didn't release any excessive amount of smoke on opening. A little disappointing for a coffee stout in my opinion. Why? Coffee steam...hmm?
Ok a very dark beer with a tannish brown head. Nothing so special there except that is what a coffee stout should look like. Emulate a little coffee. Coffee black & the head coffee with cream. So appearance is on the plus side. Also I love the label of a kid eating oatmeal. funny. This is an oatmeal stout so there is some robust qualities to this brew. Belgians get the joke.
Now the aroma! The aromas is right on. Good coffee smell. Straight up coffee. Slammin! I gave it a powerful 5! A hint of chocolate wavers in the background.
The taste is soft almost sweet and not bitter. The texture is like a smooooth Jamacain Blue Mountain coffee though robust with a velvet touch of chocolate. Not quite the chocolate you may expect since we have a double chocolate as it states on the label. But we have a nice mild mocha thing here yet with an imperial robustness. Excellent balance. The taste is not overwhelming. The drinkability is high. I mean my beer is gone already, way before I am even done writing this review. Poof! Gone. You know the movie?
I may have inflated the score here, but the marks are consistent with what this brew purports to be. A Coffee Stout. Oatmeal double chocolate. This may help. Breakfast Stout reminds me of Deschutes Black Butte Porter. If you ever drank that, Clean crisp lacking a little flavor, but fresh and refreshing! A nice morning stout!
Breakfast Stout slides down nice with Miles Davis' news - I suggest Miles' cd entitled "Tribute to Jack Johnson!" Diiigg John McLaughlin crunching down on the electric guitar. Maybe the best rock album ever recorded .... at least on side one. Right Off! Black Power! Black Coffee Power!

This amped up version of the much acclaimed Breakfast Stout doesn't live up to its hype. I had a few of these back at the Harvest Party and braved the horrid weather tonight to try it again on a fresher (more sober) palette.
Its on nitro which gives it the typical black body with light creamy tan head which begins huge and settles itself to a small cap above the beer.
Aroma is stronger on the hops and cream with some roasted coffee and chocolate notes coming out as well.
Taste was light and airy which was probably a result from the nitro. Much more chocolatey than the original version yet the coffee flavors were underwhelming at best. I get a bitter quality which I don't know whether that's the hops or coffee elements. More chocolate on the finish.
Alcohol is not nearly as perceptible as one might think but the body can't hold its weight. Decent to good beer but its no Breakfast Stout. Nitro was good for Oatmeal and Frangelico but not for this.
