Appearance: Super dark black/brown and completely opaque. No head but some brown bubbles.

Aroma: Alcohol, dark malt, bourbon, chocolate. Not super aromatic.

Taste: Very rich roasted malts with the usual coffee and dark chocolate flavors associated with the style. Moderate bitterness mostly from the dark coffee flavored malts. Not much alcohol in the flavor which is surprising but some warmth in the finish. A palate bruiser. Not getting much oaky flavor.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and harsh at the same time. Smooth flavor and harsh carbonation. Full in body (pours like motor oil). Average drinkability.

Final Thoughts: A very in-your-face RIS. I'm aging my other bottle to see how it develops in a year or so. Would I drink it again? Yes, I have a hard time turning town an RIS.

Got this for my wife for mother's day (her favorite beers are Stouts and Porters) and I had to get one for myself.

A - Poured a gorgeous dark black with a beautiful tan head of about a finger. Poured thick like a syrup almost (exaggerated), was beautiful in the snifter.

S - Smelled of molasses, dark chocolate, and a nice smokey/roasted malt.

T - Exceptional. Warmed the body on its way down. Had obvious chocolate and malt flavors through and through, as well as that molasses again. Was pleasantly surprised at the hop bitterness with this stout coming it at 90 IBUs.

M - Was definitely full bodied and a meal. Every glass has a sandwich in it! Very full flavored and buttery, coating the palate with its components.

O - Overall a great stout, Founders nailed this one. One of my top stouts for sure.
