This brew pours an orange copper color with a half finger head and mild lacing.
The smell is dank like wet hay and malty. Peat moss and nutty. There is also some carmel in there.
The taste starts with a sweet malt and carmel taste followed by a nutty/bready taste then some tangy/peppery hops on the back end. There is some mild hop oil which sticks to the tongue after swallowing.
The mouthfeel is thick and bready, nutty and chewy. Tangy with good carbonation.
Overall this is a good example of the Oktoberfest style, from the look to the taste. Just enough sweet malt with just enough hops to balance out the sweetness. This would be a good session beer for anytime of the year.

Into a pint glass:
A: dark copper colored body and left a one finger white foamy head, some nice ringy lacing was left around the sides of the glass. No carbonation was seen rising.
S: really off, bland and muted caramel tones with some light nuttiness to it.
T: basically the same.
M: light to medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, sessionable.
O: I'm not that impressed with this beer. I've had better Oktoberfests and this isn't one of them. I won't seek this out again.

Stopped by Otter on 02SEP12 with Alewife for a bit of lunch during a great bike ride. Was told by the staff there that this is now a lager. This was confirmed via email as follows:
"Our Oktoberfest is indeed a lager. We ferment this brew with Andechs lager yeast. We also hand loaded all malts (Munich, Vienna, and Pilsen) by hand in lieu of the conventional bulk 2 Row used for our traditional ale production. Cheers!

So, I grabbed a pint to lead off! Shaker glass was filled with a clear, medium copper bier, which had steady carbo present. Head was thin, off-white and wispy, with nice lace left arrear. Nose had some light caramel and toasty malts. This bier passed fairly smoothly over the tongue, and the body was mid-range medium.
Light sweetness first alit on the palate, with more toasty, caramel notes, plus a touch of subtle toffee. The malt level here was real nice and more typical of the style than the faux-OFest ales in the past. Had some mild floral hop action rounding out the finish. Found it quite solid and drinkable. Prosit!
