Brand new brewery to my area, drinking with full memory of the Great Divide Oak-Aged IPA from Firkin a couple years ago. Right on. This stuff pours a clear brass topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises coconut shavings, light mushroom, and a touch of biscuit. The hell...? The taste brings in more of the same, with less of an earthy character (so long, shiitake) and more of a plain oak one. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, I have no idea what happened here, but it sure as hell doesn't seem like any oaked IPA I've ever come across before, much less many normal IPAs, for that matter.

Appearance: cloudy, deep golden-tangerine body with a half finger bone white head that leaves some lacing on the glass with each sip but does not stick.

Aroma: light overall, some oak, citrus-floral in the mix

Flavors: the mild-moderate oak flavor seems to mix well with some muted hops, mild citrus at best, I based my 4 rating on this beer and not on an IPA style. Based on an IPA style I would go lower.

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, dry, oak spice that is reminding me of my oak sea salt that I use in cooking, piney on the finish and aftertaste along with the oak, nothing overpowering

To the Point: IPA fans or Hop Heads might be disappointed or a little disappointed but, I like the touch of oak. For someone who likes cigars and some cigars have oaky notes … well this would be worth buying and enjoying with a fine cigar. Look forward to a few reviews on my cigar blog with this beer.

Worthy to try … ahrrr … interesting to try? Yes. For the cigar smoker it is a must pairing. I paired it with a Liga Privada #9 and it was a very pleasing pairing.

A: Poured briskly into a room-temperature weizen glass, Oak-Aged IPA put forth about a half-fnger of bone white head, quickly dying down to almost nothing. Nice lacing with solid retention on the glass. Color is cloudy copper. Great look, all in all.

S: A rich hoppy presence hits immediately with tones of vanilla, toffee, mandarin orange and dank wood. Very inviting and intriguing smell!

T: I get fruity, resinous hops up front with more of that vanilla and woodiness to balance out the experience in the finish. I wouldn't mind a a tad more malt in the equation, but this is pleasantly balanced and subtle overall.

M: Great mouthfeel. Very low carbonation which goes down smooth and finishes dry like most solid IPAs.

O: Round Barn's Oak-Aged IPA is a pleasant experience. Nothing blows you away, but the whole package is superbly balanced. You can tell that these guys have years of experience doing what they do. They're not out to change the world of beer- they're simply carving out their own, elegant niche in a crowded world of American IPAs.

Bottle sent to me by a good friend.

A- Pours a very hazy deep gold color with 2 fingers of white head that has good retention.

S- A mixture of fresh cut oak and an American IPA with lots of citrusy hops bouncing around. The oak mellows out the citrus and add a wonderful depth to this beer.

T- Hops seem more muted on the palate with the oak aging. The oak aging adds a smoothness aspect to it. The fresh cut oak really balances out the bitter flavors from the IPA.

M- Medium body, with a moderate amount of carbonation. Flavors seem to coat the mouth and stick.

O- The more I try oak aged IPA's the more I like them. Glad this one was sent my way.

Pour is hazy golden color. Light, white head with a little lacing.

Nose is true to name with oak dancing in on citrusy hops. Lemon zest. Oak is there, but noverly pronounced.

Entry is clean, dry, crisp - opens nicely to smooth middle when a blast of hop bittering kicks in. Flavors of honey malts, fresh fruits, hint of melon, and oak backing throughout. Again, oak does not overpower, but works nicely.

The bittering is very well done on the finish - long snappy bitterness. Flavors of wild-flower honey, crystal malt. Floral hop flavors. Mouthfeel didn't quite hold up.

A nice surprise. Considering this is relatively new entrant to craft beer scene, no bottle issues, no off flavors, and packs nice hop smack down in a new and interesting. One to seek out and try.

I have seen this beer around lately and was never really that anxious to try it. I did have a few given to me recently, so I'm trying my first of this type today. I was pleasantly surprised!
The appearance was is a bright cloudy amber, with a single finger head. Nice lacing that continues down the glass while drinking.
Very nice aroma, pine citrus and the like.
This beer is very hop forward, with a good med/high carbonation.
Overall, I was pleased with this IPA. I would recommend it to anyone that is a hophead/IPA fan.
