Pours nice deep roasted blackish-brown porter tone decent lacing
Smells of bitter coffee, roasted barley, chocolate malt, nice touch of bitterness, floral fruity alcoholic touch, more than expected for a 6% porter.
Flavor is much the same. Loads of coffee, chocolate malt, some sweeter notes in the flavor than the aroma though. Touch of brown sugar, molasses in particular with it's sweet-yet-smoky note, finishes with a bitterness I like in my Porters.
Lighter bodied Porter than most, focusing on the bitter-carbonated side of things. It it a trait in porters I find myself liking more and more.
If you want richer, creamier mouthfeels, flavors..etc..drink a stout. Reading about the history of Porters that involve blending old and new beers to create a drinkable beer for worker...I could imagine it was bitter and slightly acidic

$1.79 for a 12oz bottle @ BevCo. Opens with a very brisk PSssht. Foam all over the place. Way to overcarbonated, gusher. Despite a careful pour, I get 3/4 of a glass of foam. ~4.5 carbs or so. The nose has a touch of that metallic kiwi fruit smell of an infection, otherwise some cocoa and that's about it in the nose. Something is wrong here. Mouthfeel explodes like champagne and is a little tart with a medium body. In spite of the infection, I can taste cocoa, some light molasses, some chocolate malt...the backbone of what could be a good beer. Bitterness is mild with some herbal hops in the finish (willamette?). Letting it sit out until the carbonation has mellowed makes for a drinkable beer. It's not a drain pour, but it will be in a few weeks.

Well, obviously this one has problems. The only other brew I've had from these guys was the Neopolitan milk stout which was OK, but also not infected.

Bottle from Bob (klipper). Bottled 279 12 B1E 0640 - October 5th? Served in a Half Acre pint glass.

A - A half-finger of tan foam settles to a partial cap, chunky collar, and a few stray thin fingers of lacing. Very dark opaque brown body.

S - Solid mix of chocolate, molasses, nuts, roasted barley, a touch of dark bread. Nothing crazy, but a fairly true to style and well-executed.

T - The taste is a tad chalky at first, but it gives way to sweeter molasses and baker's chocolate flavors. There's a bit of char and coffee bitterness in the finish. Some nice flavors, but the astringent and chalky notes mar things a bit.

M - Active and perhaps a bit too zesty carbonation. Medium body that's a tad watery, with a dry and roasty grain husk finish. Probably my least favorite thing about this beer.

D - Nothing special, but better than some of the reviews suggest. I easily drank my 12oz bottle, but I probably wouldn't purchase this again unless there were really limited options, notably Edmund Fitzgerald and Founders.

Bottle dated 282 12 on the bottom, guessing it was bottled in September.

Pours a reddish brown color into a mug, lots of creamy tan foam billows up to just under the rim of the glass. Sticky halo of lacing forms, and a generous unbroken skim remains on the surface after a few sips.

Coarse roasted barley aroma, little bit of dry coffee and chocolate happening.

A mild astringency at first, but it mellows out becoming creamy and roasty later on. Firmly bitter black malt, bakers chocolate and coffee are the signature flavor notes here. Dry and lingering bitter finish, with a touch of burnt grain husks. Overall it's not bad, though it doesn't really hold a candle to Founders Porter.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Well, is it a pier or a cove? Don't puss out and make it both: take a stand, man! Anyway, this stuff pours a deep garnet-sienna topped by a finger of sandy tan foam. The nose comprises chocolate powder, roasted malts, and a twinge of coffee. The taste brings in more of the same, with the coffee coming to the fore and the roast coming through decidedly darker, roastier. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a generally fluid feel. Overall, a solid porter, one that leans determinedly in favor of heavy roast, but luckily one that doesn't really overdo it in that category.

The head on this beer was huge during the pour it took me awhile to get it into the glass. There was nothing that I really loved about this beer and I consider it about average for a Robust Porter. I wish there was some more malt flavors with this beer than what I primarily experienced...the roastiness. Also, this beer was so highly carbonated it made it very dry and probably affected the perceived bitterness. The head on this beer was very long lasting and laced along the glass (in a frosted pattern). OK beer but I won't get it again.

a: Very dark, almost black. Poured a huge head that took awhile to get down. Head is tan and pillowly with waves.

s: Slight roast malt aroma mixed in with more of a pronounced chocolate and nut aroma, with a touch of bread and toffee, as I smell more of it. The hop aroma is spicy in nature. Clean.

t: Roast flavor upfront followed by some sweetness. Slight alcohol notes. Moderately high bitterness. Not detecting much of any hop flavor. Quite a punch of roast and bitterness with this one. Finish is dry. No diacetyl. Slight fruity esters

m: Body is moderate and HIGHLY carbonated. Very slight astringency from the roasted grains.

Great lace. Wonderful porter. Flows well. Starts well and ends well. Great chocolate overtones. Some say best porter ever. Put this up against any other porter. No t quite in the stout group but great for its category. Drink it, live it, love it. more the merrier
