Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a beer mug.

Appearance: Beer is a slightly cloudy medium-dark golden color with medium-level active carbonation visible through the glass. Head is airy; almost pure white; and leaves thick lacing occasionally as it recedes.

Smell: Almost like an orange creamsicle. Malt is pleasantly like sweet cream, and the hops shine through with a true orange scent. Mostly floral nose on the hops, though there's a slight tinge of bitterness if you focus hard enough.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Beer is medium-bodied, and enters with a mild hop bitterness. As the carbonation plays out, the malt lays down on the tongue with a subtle sweetness nowhere near cloying. Great flavor without being too unrestrained...a nearly perfect brew! Aftertaste is reminiscent of pine sap.

Overall: Not a bad drink. There's nothing over-the-top awesome going on, but it fits within the style perfectly. Definitely worth a try if you're ever around Douglas, MI.

Appearance: clear golden body with a two finger white head that leaves lots on lacing on the glass.

Aroma: herbal hops with a nice touch of citrus on the nose and a fresh biscuit note.

Flavors: white grapefruit citrus rind, nice peppery feel,

Mouthfeel: low-moderate carbonation, white grapefruit like bitterness,

To the Point: rather simple, citrus front and center not much else, if you want a simple grapefruit IPA this is for you.

I knew nothing about this beer or brewery but decided to pick up at 12 oz bottle in a mix-a-six and give it a try

A- Pours a light golden/orange color, clear with about one finger of white head that dissipated quickly.

S- A really nice hop aroma. Strong and citrusy with hints of lemon. Smells great.

T- A great deal of hop bitterness that is also balanced with some sweetness. The flavor packs a really nice punch. The 7% ABV is nicely covered.

M- Medium bodied, well balanced beer. Great deal of hoppy bitterness and aroma is balanced with sweet malts. Medium amount of carbonation.

O- I really enjoyed this IPA. I had never heard of this brewery, but I was really surprised at how good it was. I will have to pick this up again. Great beer for the style in my opinion.

12 ounce bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - It has a cloudy amber body with golden highlights. An inch of off-white head sits on top.

S - As soon as I cracked the bottle I smelled skunk weed. I think this is the first beer that I thought smelled like marijuana. After it set a couple minutes that aroma dissipated. I was able to smell some caramel malt then.

T - I get a strong malt backbone. It finishes with some bitter pine trying to cut through the malt. It is moderately successful.

M - It seems full for an IPA.

O - I picked up a couple Saugatuck beers on a recent visit to Michigan. I'll just say that I hope the other beer tastes better.

Appearance: Pours a nice orangish/golden color…very inviting…some bubbles, but not many and there is little to no head…(3.5/5)

Smell: Super citrusy…very orange and grapefruit dominant…that’s really all I can smell…(3.5/5)

Taste: Wow…that is tasty…it’s citrusy, but the piney hops and subtle malts balance it out very nicely…it’s not lemony, it’s orangey/grapefruity, which does differentiate this citrus American IPA from the lot in this category…crisp and smooth, I don’t taste the higher ABV this one has…(4/5)

Mouthfeel: Light and nicely carbonated…some citrus linger and a bit of bitterness in the after taste but leaves the mouth refreshed with it’s crisp flavor…(3.75/5)

Overall: I like this beer…I’ve gone through a bunch of IPA’s and AIPA’s and this one definitely stands out from the others…while it does have all the classic fixins of a AIPA, the grapefruit and orange flavors are unique, balancing out the hops and alcohol…it’s refreshing, flavorful, distinct and 7% ABV…feelin’ good, lookin’ good! (4/5)

On tap at Fishbones in Detroit. Pours an amber color, mild clarity; the beer arrived with nearly no head at all except for a tiny, tiny collar around the very edge of the glass. Smell is upfront with the traditional hop-citrus combo; piney, herbal, and a bit spicy with oranges and grapefruit being the easiest fruits to pick out. Taste is no surprise, thanks to the aroma. Hop flavors crash first; pines, dry grass, leafy and herbal, with a slight peppery spice that starts off like it's going to be a problem, but then quickly shows itself to the background. The sweetness comes through a little while after to try and combat the hops. Oranges, grapefruit, and maybe a touch of pineapple. Slight caramel flavor from the malt, but far from heavy by any means. Medium body, pretty average amount of carbonation.

I enjoyed this beer, but I feel like it does nothing to really stand out in front of the vast majority of other IPAs out there. At a place that serves mainly BMC products on tap, this was a great choice. But in a store filled with hundreds of other beers, I'd probably never bother to revisit this one.

Bottle from Bob (klipper). Short-filled, so I'm guessing it was an employee take-home bottle. Code on bottom of the bottle says 282 12 B1W 0657 - bottled October 8th perhaps? Served in a Half Acre pint glass.

A - A half-finger of white foam settles to a very thin cap and thicker collar, leaving a bit of lacing behind. Very lightly hazed golden color with some visible bubbles.

S - Balanced East Coast vibe, with earthy, piney, and herbal hops dominating, on only a touch of citrus in the periphery. Perhaps a bit of cat pee as well. Biscuit and brown sugar malt backbone that's perhaps a bit cloying.

T - Again, very old-school, with palate-bruising bitterness and heavy grapefruit in the finish. The taste is very leafy and herbal, with pine and trace citrus. Malt is a bit more neutral in comparison to the aroma, with more of a bready vibe to it.

M - Medium body that's a bit watery and flaccid. Pleasant active carbonation, fairly dry in the finish, with an oily and resinous residual texture. Only the mildest alcohol warming near the end of the 12oz bottle.

D - This would have been good in 2006, but it's merely acceptable in 2012. You can still make killer IPAs with Columbus and Cascade if you try, but this has too much bitterness and is awfully heavy on the Columbus herbal flavors. Fine for a bottle, but not something I'd revisit.
