Traditional oatmeal stout. The silky smooth oatmeal lends itself perdectly to the intense roasted malt character of this dark robust stout.

64 oz. growler poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Black body, but not total opaque, with a huge mocha head. Great retention and great lacing. Love it. It looks luscious and rich.

Smell - Not a whole lot on the nose. Some roasted malts in the form of coffee, but it's faint.

Taste - Much better flavor. Chocolate primarily, with a lactose sweetness in the back end. It's coupled with a slight bitterness that prevents either flavor from coming through too much.

Mouthfeel - Thick, despite the low ABV (it's not that low, really). That lactose sweetness does it in a little bit for me, but it's still good. I had no problem putting away 32 oz. of this.

Overall - Nice, but not something I'd seek out again. Something I'd drink if I was in the area, for sure.

Really solid example of a straight oatmeal stout. Lots of roasted malt, char and oat.

Had on tap. This one surprised me with how robust it was. Oat, bittersweet chocolate, char, and biscuit make up the nose. Taste was roasted chocolate and malt up front, and creamy oats in the finish, not a lot of complexity, but solid. Feel is creamy and robust, booze leaks a little bit.

Poured on tap at Minneapolis Town Hall into a half pint (9 ounces).

Stark and matte walnut brown body, nearly black, with red highlights. A creamy top off tanned head presented with nice lacing while drinking. An excellent dark color and lace.

Aroma is creamed warm coffee, good amounts of vanilla, with big notes of hazelnut quality. Piping with a sense of very minimal sweetness but just touching and slight chewy teeth clenching roasted grains.

Palate just bursts and rips. Creamed chocolate with a faint hint possibly of lactose sweetness which makes really good accents on the malt. Rich fudge and cake like flavors in a light but rich coating body. Some hinting tobacco on the finish, and even gives fruited raspberry esters as well. Excellently balanced as well.

Wow this is a real serious winner, I haven't had an oatmeal stout this good since drinking Founders and this might easily put it over the top of that.
