I heard about Surdyk's price gouging and Jim's expressions a day or two later in the media. I hope no one goes into this store for craft beer anymore. And for me, it brings up the thought that if this establishment does this to rare craft beers like Darkness, then what is to say that it does not do that to wine and cheese and the rest of its pricing.
I ran into one of the cashiers that has worked there her entire life, she's a family friend, and she said she was worried about what will happen now because she has seen an immediate affect in traffic, craft beer being bought, and questions directed at her about the entire issue.

Looks like a grocery store, but turns out to be a liquor store filled with wine. The last few rows towards the back left have some microwbrews and imports, but the imports are a little old.
The service is pretty bad because no one there could offer good information or even try only take the time to try and advertise the store which makes me think he's in it only for the money.
I asked about the time the wheat beer was on the shelf and he couldn't give me a straight answer which made me not purchase it.
I didn't have a great experience, but it was very nice to see different beers from around the US and canada.

Walking into Surdyk's I was very impressed with their whole set up. Huge wine selection, huge cheese selection, huge beer selection, and a solid cigar selection. They don't have as big a selection as Blue Max or Dennis Brothers, but their selection is solid. They have a lot of American micros, a solid selection of imports, a Belgian selection that is nice but could be better. Service was nice. I was asked a couple times if I needed anything, which is nice. Prices seemed a bit high compared to other places in town. All in all, I would stop back into Surdyk's for any of my drinking/cigar smoking/ cheese eating needs.
After seeing Surdyk's charge $36.99 for a bottle of Surly Darkness, then make derogatory comments about its craft beer costumers I will not be shopping at Surdyk's again.

Obviously with as big of a liquor store as Surdyks they are going to have a wide selection of liquor, beer wine, cigars, cheese etc....They will have a large staff, an atmosphere of classiness, knowledge of what they sell and obviously try to compete to be the biggest and best liquor store in the area to get anything listed above. But this is all they are. I have had to many experiences of terrible service as well as my friends. Stories that come from the owner (who never sounds very friendly and she answers the phone basically any time you call) to people on the sales floor. I'm sorry, but in today's day of age, you better have good customer service or why should you deserve my business? Sketchiness about some of their pricing on certain beers compared to other neighboring stores concerns me about price gauging. Yeah, liquor laws may not carry the law like gas stations but it's still sketch and pretty lame. Avoid this place, they do not deserve your money. Go to someone who actually cares about you because you thought of going to their store.

This place is significantly better for wines.
It is very easy to find, right downtown, and it has a nice parking right in front of it which makes it easier to come in and out with loads of beer.
Easy to navigate, it has a decent import selection but I was rather disappointed with the american and local selection.
Service is OK, courteous but most people do not know a lot about beer.
It is a good store, but there are better and cheaper places around the greater Minneapolis. However, this is the only of the places I tried where I could find Aecht Schlenkerla, which is the reason I will keep coming back.

I live pretty close to Syrdyk's and their beer section has gone down hill lately in my estimation. The Belgian section still looks pretty good, but the imports and micros are never organized, they have large holes on the shelves with out beer, that is available to them im sure. Their wine selection is what they are known for and right now it that won't change better than some but no longer a great place to get beer. About a year ago they had all the seasonals and were bringing in more beers and were rotating through quickly but now with current lack of organization and updating of beers they are going down hill.

I was in the area so I decided to see what they all had. I noticed they had a ton of wine samplings that day, but only had 1 brewery to sample: New Belgium. They are a big wine store, but they have some decent craft stuff. I noticed they had the Boulevard Smokestack series on sale for a good price. The store wasn't anything fancy, reminded me of a grocery store.
Service wasn't anything stellar. It is such a huge store and there isn't that much beer so help really wasn't needed anyways.
Overall, this is a decent store with good prices. Good enough selection to stop in.

Stopped here after a long line of other stores. Selection was pretty consistent with the other stores, and like a lot of the others was lacking in some of the higher end stuff. Was more of a wine store.... and a far as service I was never approached. This was be a good place for a tourist to make a broad purchase across a bunch of breweries with good prices but if you want something in particular, you might try the surburbs. I would go back if I was in the immediate area but find myself not wanting to deal with the traffic as much, although they did also have their own parking.

Stopped by this place on my cities tour during the Odell/Great Lakes releases. Got some cheese and sausage, no beer. The store is nice enough, beer takes up 2 or so aisles plus a few end-caps in this predominately wine store. I was only asked if I needed help finding anything by some clerks stocking stuff, no one who seemed to be any sort of beer specialist. The beer was mostly on shelves, though there was a selection of stuff in coolers. A decent selection of American Craft, Belgians and some of the smaller name imports that I would have expected to see at a store that wanted to look like it had a big beer selection 10 years ago. And the prices! Through the roof. I was at 3 or 4 liquor stores that day, plus the one I work at and I would say Surdyk's was the most expensive or second to most after a Municipal I stopped at. I will probably only stop here if I really need something that no one else has or if I'm in that much of a rush and near by. Also, not having any singles was a big no no.

I also stopped by this place whilein MSP for Darkness Day. When I stopped by here, they were actually out of Surly, since there is such a crazy demand. The selection was huge, though. I'd say they probably had the largest selection out of all the places we stopped at. The quality of beers stocked was also very good. A big disappointed, though, was that nearly everything was sitting out on shelves and in the light. It's really sad to see all the hoppy beers wasting away on the warm shelves. The service, again, is pretty much what you'd expect from a liquor store. Everything seemed pretty reasonably priced.
