Surdyk's has been my Number One stop for quality beer for well over 5 years now. They have a great selection of microbrews and some nifty Imports as well. The fellas working in the beer area are always willing to help and talk about the happenings in the beer world. This store caters to the beer geeks. If the distributors are getting the beer in this area, it most assuredly usually ends up at Syrdyk's. I don't ever worry about getting that "outdated" six pack from this store. They have their shit together here. And they have a great Smoke Shop area as well.

Surdyk's counts more on its wine then its beer selection and it even has a newly refurbished cheese shop and bakery right where you walk in. The beer selection here is very good, although they seem to get caught with empty shelves from time to time. Thats a no no. Also, they almost always have barleywines located in the fridges, another no no. Sometimes the selection hardly changes with in a years time. They pick up it up from time to time. The help there can be very good, with knowledge people just hanging around waiting to share their knowledge. They almost always have out samples for you to try, both in the beer and wine sections, but its usually some big push for something they probably got to much of.
All in all, this is great place to get a start on whats out there. A good choice of Belgium, German, and micro brews are there along with seasonal brews that change quite often. Has good parking and good hours. Closed on Sundays.

This is one of the more popular liquor stores in the Minneapolis area and they try to cater to a more discerning drinker. They try to be the best at everything, and they succeed best with their wine. They also have a good selection of single malt scotch and other hard liquors, a good humidor and a cheese shop. But we are here for the beer of course. They have a good size aisle devoted to imports and micros and have some hard to find labels, they keep a lot cool but mostly that contains the more usual offerings. Overall a good store with a good enough selection to make your choice difficult. And they often will offer samples of local or new brews. Prices are usually on the reasonable side and they often have good sales.
