Had the 2023 edition on tap at a tap room in Indiana, and was absolutely delighted with the result. Medium golden, clear and with a nice amount of stable foam. Definitely a Wiesn beer, rather than Märzen. This was just down my alley, with nice malt aroma, bready and only a little sweetness. Very reserved aroma hop in the background. An absolute pleasure, and in my opinion one of the top Oktoberfest (Wiesn) beers of the season. If you prefer darker, Märzen style, then look elsewhere.

Hey, wait, someone spilled caramel in my crappy macro-lager…my mistake, it’s Upland’s confusing take on an Oktoberfest.

Canned 8/3/21; drank 9/25/21 @ the Yarchives.
See-through golden appearance.
A rough pour yielded a huge eggshell head; strong, frothy tree-rung lace.
Mild acorn & faint...Budweiser (?) notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium mouthfeel.
Cream & faint caramel flavors.
A rough nose and forgettable flavor resign this to mediocre-sville. Not one I'll return to.

Clear amber appearance with a small off white head and very little lacing. Understated malty, bready aroma; maybe a touch of floral hops. Malts remain dominant in the taste, along with some sweetness, while hops come through a little more assertively and add some spiciness. Lacks the clean, dry finish typically associated with the style.

Drank from a can, his beer looks like an American Octoberfest Beer, nice nose, the mouthfeel was good, the flavor had more sweetness than a lager, it was not crisp, the flavor had toasted malt / caramel notes, this beer was good except for the sweetness, less sweetness would help. The can listed 6.1% alc. I would not buy this again, I like crisp lagers.

The pour is copper colored with a copious amount of carbonation. The taste is crisp, a little bitter but not overly bitter, brown bread crust, grains, & caramel. Cheers! B

It looks beautiful, no issues with the perfectly clear deep gold.
The aroma was a bit off, with yeast character evident and Caramel both of which are inappropriate for this style (yes caramel is not appropriate!), and only a tiny hint of bready malt. No hop aroma to speak of and no other malt complexity
Flavor was surprisingly bitter, and it's a hard woody bitterness that throws the balance distinctly into hoppy territory, which is not appropriate. Again the malt character is Caramel first with only a hint of bread to liven it, and is otherwise very boring. There is just a hint of yeast character in the flavor as well, almost like it has a Belgian phenolic hint to it.
Mouthfeel is a little thin and slightly over carbonated
Overall this beer is in the ballpark but missed the mark on balance (too bitter) and malt complexity (not enough). There also seems to be a fermentation issue or infection at play here as there should be absolutely no yeast character evident.

clear caramel color. Moderate white head with lacing.
Smells like honey, biscuit, Graham cracker.
Medium - light carbonation And mouthfeel. A little weird spit-like.
honey, biscuit taste, caramel, slight toastiness. Very minimal grassy/herbal noble hop taste.
Overall: fairly good. Definitely not a standout among marzens our there.

A gentle pour from a 12-oz. can yields a finger of soapy and noisey off-white foam with long retention and small spots of lace. Clear copper-straw color with orange-amber highlights.
Toasted bread with wheat and bitter herbal hops greet the nose, faint citrus in the back.
The taste begins neutral on sweetness with medium-low bitterness, wheat and lager malt are balanced with faint caramel. No surprises here, it has a basic taste profile. The finish is quick and clean, it does not dry yet bitterness rises as peppery spice appears. Bitterness from hops and toasted wheat linger briefly.
Just below medium body with average carbonation, alcohol is cleverly hidden as spice.
Claims to be a "Bavarian style Lager", true to Festbier style and a strong case for separating Marzen and Festbier into two different styles.

This tastes like a great import, in my opinion. I think it is the best brew I have had from Upland, for sure. Nice and malty with a tad bit of hops coming through in the end. Got this for around 6 bucks due to it being on the last month of the best buy date. Still really good and fresh-tasting.
