Thanks to zrab11 for sending this one as an extra in a trade thanks bro. Poured into a HotD tulip on 3/24/11.
Pours a clear orange with a finger and a half of powdery off white head. Head dissipates to leave a fine lacing over about 70% of the glass.
Smells of some floral hops and a lot of malt backbone not strong at all. I can also smell the booze in this one.
Taste is of malt and some hops but mostly malt. Hops is grassy and earthy.
Mouthfeel is medium and their is a significant alcohol presence in the taste. Some bite on the tounge and the rough of the mouth.
Drinkability is low to moderate on this one. It all has to do with the lack of cover up on the ABV. If I can taste the booze throughout the entire sip thats not good for an IPA. It has a good taste but I the hops need to be amped up.

22oz bottle from Delocks Discount Liquors (Munster, IN). 7.99. Bottled 12/12. Served in a Burnt Hickory snifter.
Pours hazy deep orange with a half finger of murky manilla head. Head fades to a halo in the glass and leaves large clumps of lace.
Smells of faded citrus, floral and stale bread.
Strange pithy bitter flavors. Orange seeds and peel, lemon/ grapefruit zest, floral notes and stale biscuit. Very little alcohol presence.
Moderately oily medium body with average carbonation. Bitter citrus peel finish that lasts a bit too long given how unappealing it is.
Perhaps it was just too old but this was mediocre at best. Not a drain pour but I'll probably never buy it again.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a bomber into an Upland pint glass.
A: Deep caramelly copper, hazy, with a half-finger of white head. Modest streams of small bubble carbonation.
S: Sweet malts with moderate caramel undertones hit the nose first. Then some pine hops, but not much else follows.
T: Toasted bread and sweet caramel malts, some hoppiness (pine, grass and citrus) but not particularly hoppy on the palate. Surprising - nice and nearly balanced, but not what I expected for a DIPA.
M: Medium body, a bit sticky mouthfeel, carbonation sensation on the low side. Moderate alcohol presence.
O: This was a pleasant drink, but not nearly what I think a DIPA should be.

Random want for well over a year. Finally grabbed a 22 oz., poured 12 oz. into a RR tulip on February 26th, 2013.
A - Just about perfect visually. Deep, clear golden hue, with a wispy soft eggshell head. Reference appearance for a DIPA I'd say.
S - Even with too much age on this, the aroma is still pretty robust. Rouge, honeysuckle, crushed pineapple, and some danky sap. Letting this sit just a minute or two greatly helps the nose balance itself out.
T - Big citrus at the front, with plentiful grapefruit pulp pulling through mid-palate. Menthol. Slightly tropical. Surprisingly earthy aftertaste.
M - Heavier than many other DIPA's I've had beyond 10%. Medium-heavy body, medium carbonation, semi-dry finish.
D - I must try this fresh. Even a bottle from last fall has enough umph to keep me interested.

Enjoyed a glass of this this evening from a 22 ounce bottle purchased at Party Town in Florence, KY.
Appearance after pour is an orange-ish golden hue. Carbonation seems somewhat limited, but still adequate.
Smell: The strong caramel flavors and sweetish notes of this Imperial Double IPA hint at the flavors found in a typical barleywine.
Taste: Here is where the beer makes its biggest show. At a cold crisp, the flavors of apple and grapefruit with just a tinge of pleasant sour at the end. With 22-ounce beers, I like to let the bottle sit out and re-engage the beer as it warms to room temperature over time to see how the notes change. As the temperature adjusts, the beer takes a slightly milder, less fruity tone.
Mouthfeel: If you can't readily see much carbonation, you can still taste it very clearly. Mouthfeel becomes smoother over time.
