Ah, Decato Mac. All Taco Mac locations essentially boil down to: booths, bar, ONE THOUSAND televisions. Plus, this particular locale has a small-sized outdoor patio deal, if that's your thing, but being a BIG FAN of air conditioning, you'll usually find me hunkered down at the bar. It's an older Taco Mac location, made all the more noticeable if you regularly visit one of the fresh, new joints.
The food is pretty tasty, plentiful, and reasonably priced for bar grub. Typically, I go for their Turkey and Swiss Panini or the new Shaved Roast Beef'wich.
The service, as is true for any bar, ranges from adequate to proficient. This is another reason for sitting at the bar, as it expedites the bar-getting process, plus the bar staff is usually a bit more knowledgeable, beerwise, as they spend their shifts stationed right next to the taps and coolers. I find their draft prices to be wholly acceptable and cannot remember a single time I balked at the bill, though their prices on large-sized, imported bottled beer can be a bit high. Now, I'd wager their bread and butter is the sale of macros, the Budmilloors stuff, and in catering to that particular crowd they serve their beers in extremely frozen glasses, so be sure to ask the staff for a non-chilled glass.
The parking situation for this particular location is a bit tricky, a bit tight, and can be pretty hard to come by, but I would say the exact same thing for essentially any joint in the downtown Decatur area.
Overall, it doesn't display the grace, finesse, and the rich experience that a trip to the Brick Store Pub or Twain's can provide, which isn't such a big deal when you're an hour away in Canton or Buford, but I find it very, very difficult not to pass this place up entirely for those locations when in the area. In fact, over the many years I've been going to downtown Decatur, I've visited the Taco Mac no more than five times (if that).

My review is based upon the number of taps and the service.
Of course, being a Taco Mac, there is a large selection of beer....Yes!...Problem is, the last 2 times I had beer there, it was extremely under carbonated. WHen I mentioned it, I was met with disdain. Look, a Saison should not be nearly flat.
Service. Hit or miss, with my last visit being a complete miss. Sat at the bar with my ID and Brewiversity card in front of me, displayed indicating I am there to drink and ready to place an order...Both bartenders looked at me, then turned away....More then once. It's not my role to capture their attention. I finally gave up and left without being queried by a bartender.
I have not been back.
I've read reviews on Yelp and I am not alone with this experience. So sad as this is the closet Taco Mac to me. Yeah, it's close to Brickstore, but There are some beers here on tap that BSP does not always have.
Fix this location, or close it down so someone else can occupy the space.

What a shame.
The ATL craft beer scene is pretty much centered in Decatur, yet this is one of the weakest locations of the sports & beer bar chain. I guess I don't blame them though - with the Brick Store a block away, why send all the rarer, awesome stuff to Decatur? The selection still isn't bad, as really only two places in town can say they are better. The worst part of this location is by far the service. To be fair, its ok most of the time, but when its bad, its atrociously bad. Slow. Wrong beer. Messed-up food orders. etc
I don't hate this place like the locals do, but as someone who lives a good distance away, its not my first stop in Decatur. Hell, honestly, its not even in the top 5 unless there is football to be seen

More of a sports bar than a genuine beer destination but worth a visit. About 100 beers on draft, maybe a couple hundred in bottles. Solid offering of American craft beer, including most of the locals. Lots of large screen televisions tuned to various sports events. Food was better than expected and reasonably priced. Their salads are very good. Don't expect tacos. In spite of the name, I didn't notice a single taco on the menu. Chicken wings are their specialty. Not a bad place to spend an hour if the Brick Store(up the street) is packed.

My wife and I stopped in while in Decatur for a night. I was planning to go to the Brick Store but it was closed (New Year's Day).
Taco Mac has a comfortable, albeit cookie cutter atmosphere (like a Chilis or Fridays) with a large bar, loads of tables and lots of TVs.
They had close to 100 beers on tap and maybe 100 more in the bottle. The bottles are well displayed (and even in alphabetical order) in a refrigerated section behind the bar. The beer selection is mostly from the US but they do have a small selection of Europeans as well. BMC is well represented but most of the beer is good, craft beer. I went with a Terrapin Oaked Big Hoppy Monster.
The food, primarily Mexican, isn't particularly authentic but it passes. The bartenders were attentive and helpful. I didn't really test their beer knowledge.
I'm not big on the atmosphere but given the selection, Taco Mac is a solid beer bar. I think it's harshly criticized because the Brick Store is so close by. I understand but while Taco Mac is no competition for the Brick Store, Taco Mac doesn't deserve some of the low ratings I see out there. It's a solid B+ (or higher) given the selection of fresh beer on tap.

Went here after finding the Brick Store was opening late due to a pre-Thanksgiving shindig.
Atmosphere is what it is, a sports bar. Nothing to set this apart from any other Taco Mac - lots of wood and lots of TV's.
Quality was surprisingly good. I had three beers, two were served in tulips and one was in an unchilled pint glass. All three were unmarked. The pours were better than I'd been accustomed to expect from Taco Mac as well.
Service was good. My waitress wasn't completely sure of what they had and what they didn't have, but she was prompt and more than willing to check on things.
Selection was good. Tons of bottles, and a decent amount of good taps. This is closer to the Highland location in that they don't have a ton of taps, but they do have pretty good quality.
Prices were reasonable, although I thought a few drinks were just a tad overpriced.
Overall this is a decent beer place that would be a lot better if the Brick Store wasn't two blocks away. Worth a shot if you're looking to switch things up.

This Taco Mac is located in the heart of Decatur, not far from the Brick Store Pub. It is a typical example of the Taco Mac chain. However, I find the seating around the bar to be very crowded and hard to move through. Like most Taco Macs, the beer selection is very good. Has to be close to 100 taps and just as many, if not more, bottled beers. The food is standard pub fare, OK. However, the menu is large and one can pick and choose across several styles of food. I generally go to a Taco Mac for the beer. This particular Taco Mac seems to have a better cross section of beer.

Ok, I know Taco Mac is an Atlanta institution and all that, and I appreciate what I imagine it's done for the community and beer in its many years, but man, I just can't get into this place.
I've been a couple of times now. I wasn't expecting fine dining or anything, but the wings kind of suck. WTF, I thought this was like the wing place around here. Also, everything myself, my gf, my friend, and his gf have had to eat there has been so salty it's been nearly painful to eat. I mean, I appreciate some artery-clogging American bar food every once in a while, but damn, I feel like everything was brined for days before being served. So yeah, the eats are by far the worst part of Taco Mac IMO. Avoid them like the plague, otherwise you'll wake up the next day still thirsty.
Moving on to beer, the place has a fairly large selection. Of course, that's assuming your first or second choice isn't out. I understand menus can't be updated constantly, so I'll let that slide. OTOH, if you love COLD beer this is the place for you. Frosted (like really, really frosted) glasses. Sigh. You'd think a beer place wouldn't do this, or at least would give it to the BMC drinkers and pour the other beers into normal glasses. Also, the beers I've had haven't always seemed super fresh.
Atmosphere is that of a sports bar. I'm not really a sports bar kind of guy, so that isn't doing it for me. Quality is whatevs. Service is ok I suppose, though a bit slow and I've had waters forgotten more than once. The place is at least cheap though.
Anyway, why would you go here when you have so much awesomeness available to you down the street in Decatur? Yeah.

I stopped in for lunch this week with some co-workers and some bosses, which prevented me from sampling any of the beers. :-( It's been quite a while since my last visit.
They have a pretty good beer selection. It's not much compared to the Brick Store up the street, but if it wasn't for Brick Store being so good and so close, this would be a pretty impressive beer menu for the Atlanta area. There was nothing on the menu I have been dying to try but just couldn't find anywhere else, but there was a good sampling of many different beer styles.
The food was average. I enjoyed a Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich. It went well with my Coca-Cola, but I couldn't stop thinking about how much better it would have gone with a Brooklyn Lager; curse the bosses!
The service was horrible. We arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon. This was well after the lunch rush. We had about 8 in our party, but I only counted 3 or 4 other tables occupied in the whole place. We rarely saw our waiter. One of my co-workers finished his lunch then ordered cake for dessert. It took over 20 minutes for him to be told they were out of cake. This same co-worker said he has been to this same location a few months earlier for lunch and was never even approached by a waiter or waitress, so he left.
I've given favorable information about this place to others on this site in the past, but now I am regretting it. I would go to this place regularly just for their beer selection, even with Brick Store's better selection right up the street. But when you have service this bad, I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Any waiter, waitress, or bartender at Brick Store could write a very eloquent review of every beer they have. I certainly did not get that impression from our frequently absent and absent minded waiter at Taco Mac.
To the Taco Mac Management: Improve your service!!!

Stopped in here on my way home just to see how many of these I could hit really. This was really not as crowded as some of the others I had been to, but it was also like mid afternoon so I guess the crowd had not come in yet. Similar style place to the others with about 90 taps and about 20 of them good. Decent bottle selection but nothing spectacular. These are like mass produced craft bars, an interesting concept and overall better then the alternatives of run of the mill Ruby Tuesday type places. Not a horrible place and would probably go back with the kids.
