a little out of the way but ultimately not too difficult to find. this place has a serious family/applebees atmosphere going on, which is not quite a compliment, i reckon (i was on business and therefore alone; i would not come here for an outing with friends. sterile). the bar was granite--nice touch--though i think the proprietor clearly has a subscription to a knick-knack of the month club
codington bc offers growlers though i don't remember seeing anyone buying or refilling them. this perhaps is related to my concerns for the quality of malt used in the brews
the service was certainly adequate in terms of bartender attentiveness but they were head pourers, thereby guaranteeing wasted and wimpy aromas. i suggest that be put to an end

Stopped in while on a visit/ beer trip to Jamestown. Nice little place located in the same parking lot as the Newport V.F.W. Small brewing setup in the far left corner through glass windows. Didn't try the food but had the beer sampler which included a golden ale, blueberry ale (with whole blueberries in it.), watermelon ale, IPA., nut brown, and a nitro'd stout. The fruit beers where pretty good but I enjoyed the nut brown and the stout best. The IPA was kind of week. This place was dead quiet, just a game on and no tunes. I couldn't have felt more unwelcome. Even the staff seemed to be whispering. Not a very fun atmosphere at all. My party and I had a couple of beer and split.
Cheers!

I visited Coddington brewery over 4th of July weekend for the first time. The building is pretty new and is a little off the beaten path. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was fairly empty. It does have its own parking lot which is nice and there are 2 rooms--the restaurant side and the bar side. Neither is especially noteable in appearance or atmosphere other than the fact that they do keep it nice and clean.
The food was good and better than avg pub grub but nothing too special. Considering how empty the place was, the service was not too good. The beers were really nothing more than average. A couple of them were actually below average. The golden was a brewpub's offering to the bud drinker. Plain and thin. The blueberry beer was one of the worst attempts at a fruit beer I have had. It actually tasted like the golden with fruit added to it. The IPA was not very hoppy but good and the stout was also better than average. The hefe was a little better than average also.
An okay stop in the Newport area but I'm not in any hurry to return.

myself and three other BAs visited this one a few months back during a saturday afternoon.
the interior is very woody, nice restaurant atmosphere. very new-feeling. beers i remember were oatmeal stout, kolsch and blueberry ale. all were solid, but not amazing brews.
michiganmiked said this place is much more lively at nights.

Stopped in for lunch with a co-worker. Pretty nice looking place but nothing spectacular. Very quiet and low key. We sat at the bar and I reviewed the beer offerings on a small chalk board on the wall. They had an IPA, nut brown ale, blueberry ale, stout, and a golden ale. I went for the IPA. Decent but overall, pretty boring. Oh and they also had Woodchuck ale on tap.
For lunch I had some ultimate nachos which were pretty good. But the cesar salad sucked. It was wilted and completely drowned in dressing.
Overall, I wasn't impressed. Although I wish I had went for the beer sampler so I could try the rest of their beers. But I was officialy working. Probably wont go back.

Was in the Newport area to visit family. We stopped in at about 10:30PM on a Saturday night during a Red Sox playoff game. Big HD flat screen behind the bar so there was a decent sport-centric crowd there that night.
The atmosphere was OK, very chill, nothing too exciting. The "bar area" (bar, high tops, pool table) was about as big as the seating for the rest of the place.
The quality of the beers (I tried the sampler - eight 7oz. glasses for like $8) weren't too bad, only one stinker, the Gold. My favorites were the IPA and Stout.
We sat at the bar so our service was fine, but it wasn't exceptional. The only real thing I would have like differently was some curiosity, I was trying to get information from the bartender yet he seemed distracted by the game, oh well.
The selection beer was wasn't bad, I mean 8 different beers i spretty good plus they had other beers and cider on tap plus liquor and wine too, can't beat that.
The only food I had were a side of their fries (my standard), and they were just "mah". A little soggy, a little not salty enough, dunno just unimpressed, but I really have no idea about the rest of their food, so my food score may be a little too low.
Overall I'd say it was a nice little brewpub, and if I was local I would totally check it out again, pretty comfortable place.

Stopped here with two buddies after a day at the casinos. We all ordered the sampler, 7 7-oz samples for $14. Not tooo shabby. Had the Irish Stout, Scotch Ale, Hefeweizen, Watermelon Ale, IPA, Blueberry Ale, and Golden Ale.
The atmosphere is nice- typical NE decor, long bar and big dining room, the 7bbl brewhouse is visible.
Food was OK- my buffalo chicken sandwich was kind of mundane, fries were good. The other people in my group ordered a pizza and a burger and both looked better than mine.
Prices were OK- Newport prices in Middletown, but what you gonna do. Most beers are available for growler fills. Growler with tax + dep. was $14.
Service was excellent- many people on shift and they were all very helpful.
Unfortunately, most all of the beer is middling to good, and none were great. The IPA is going to be my regular, not too much else jumped out at me.
My friend just moved about a mile away so I see this becoming a local hangout for us. Not great, but def. worth checking out, if only for a sampler and a quick bite.

Went on a Saturday evening and the place was packed with family types having dinner. I was skeptical when I walked in since the layout seemed to emphasize the restaurant and not the bar/brewery. The place is open with sit down tables in a room as you walk in, and the bar, pool table, and bar tables were in the back room. Bar stools were comfortable. The beers I had were excellent - The IPA was hoppy, crisp, and fruity. The ESB was outstanding with a good balance and modest hop flavor. And the Oatmeal Stout was more like a porter, but also very tasty. The food that came out looked good, but I had already eaten, so I did not get any. Its a must stop for good fresh beer when heading to or leaving Newport.

On a recent visit to Newport, decided to seek out a local brewpub. Coddington was it. We got there late on a Saturday and it was getting near closing, so there were not many people there. I liked the layout the atmosphere was pleasant. They had a good selection fo beers and we had samplers. The beers were not great but were good, overall and I enjoyed most of them. I scratched my head in slight amazement as the blueberry beer had blueberries in it and the watermelon beer had a piece of watermellon. To me, that's cheating. Might as well take a Bud, throw in some cherries and call it Kriek.
Anyway, the bartender was pleasant and the service was fine. Didn't sample the food, though the menu seemed pretty good. Overall, a fair experience. I would go back again but wouldnt drive too much out of my way to get there.

Coddington is, as everyone else mentions, a family style brewpub. Dining room is on one side, bar is on the other with TVs and a pool table.
Quality is pretty average, beer comes second to food which tends to be quanity over quality.
Service at the bar was great, bartender was super friendly, chatty and outgoing. I don't think he knew much about the beer but it also seems like that is an afterthought to a degree here. Ask for samples they are more than eager to oblige.
They had 6 or so beers on tap. Pretty basic offerings for the most part so I had the Winter Warmer which was decent and the Barleywine which I felt was very good.
Food is New England pub food, seafood and Thanksgiving type options. I had a "Pilgrim Wrap" which was very filling.
Costs for the most part here are pretty reasonable some of the seafood entrees will run you close to $20.
Solid place.
