Tom's is a little, tiny college liquor store that doesn't belong to the Big 10 chain. This means: fresher selection, cheaper prices and friendlier help, but also less selection. The help is great, and on more than one occasion have taken advice on what to get and not charged up the ass for it. Everyone that works there is very friendly and helpful and the place is really clean, unlike Big 10 stores. I've never had a bad beer from these guys.
If you're visiting the area, the prices are slightly higher than Goodrich's, but much lower than Big 10. Between Goodrich's and Tom's, you can get nearly every bottled Michigan brew, so there's not alot of reason to go to Big 10 and pay more for suspicious product.
Anyways, it's worth a stop if you are visiting for a few days and need some good beer.

Pretty typical party store only with a bit better selection then the average store.
Customer service is below average compared to places around (spartan spirits, oades, horrocks) but not bad.
Might be a place I would check if all else fails and you are looking for something special that just came out.
Prices are on pair with stores around, and will usually be a bit cheaper (probably due to location).

This place has an excellent selection of beer. The prices are what you would expect for craft and import beer. They carry nearly all of the Michigan microbrews that are distributed in bottles. They stock many different beers in kegs.
What is especially nice about this place is that they will work very hard to get you kegs of beer if you ask them. I have gotten Stone Ruination in a half barrel here and other excellent micros. They show a genuine interest in serving their customers.
I am choosing Tom's more regularly. It is conveniently located at the west end of East Lansing.

I've been to Tom's a few times but i don't regularly stop in due to the location and myself not finding my way to that part of the east side/okemos.
They have a smaller selection but there's usually at least one thing i'll find that interests me - last time was a growler of rogue's buckwheat ale (only store in the area to carry it regardless), good prices. When '08 dark horse double crooked tree came out, I was surprised to see so many 4 packs; wish i would have grabbed more when I had the chance. Not a whole lot of singles but a few - mainly package, wine/ party store with a nice little selection of beer.
Worth a stop

I have passed this place on many occasions but just never made it in. It is pretty small and clean with most of the beer in coolers against the wall. They had bombers of Unibroue, Rogue, Stone, and some Delerium and other randoms. Other stuff included Bell's, Founders, Dark Horse, and Dogfish Head. The only thing that really stuck out to me was the 120 Minute IPA and the Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner. I had a nice little chat with the guy at the counter about the 120 Minute and aging it. Overall it's worth checking in here to see what they have every once and a while. It may have even been my regular beer store if it wasn't on the other side of town.

I stopped at Tom's last Friday night, and was very impressed. I was not expecting craft beers at all, so even the modest selection was great. Lots of Michigan beers, Bell's Founders, Dark Horse, and other staples like Unibroue, Great Lakes, and Dogfish Head. What was really awesome, though, were the prices. Bombers of Unibroue were $6.99, and they even had DFH 120 Minute for $8.99. This is several dollars cheaper than other stores in the Lansing area. I will definately be stopping in here whenever I'm in the area.

I stopped at Tom's Party Store on Sunday, just past noon. The beer cooler was found at the far right of the enterance. The cooler was stocked with all the basics. Tom's import selection was decent, but don't expect much from Belgium. A good selection of Rogue bombers were in the singles fridge.
What I was really hoping to find were Michigan beers. They had the full compliment of Bell's, four or five beers from Michigan Brewing, and a couple New Holland beers in the cooler. I also found a good selection from Dark Horse up front near the cash register.
This seemed to be a good, clean, decent store, but the selection of craft beers was just okay.

Right down the road from MSU Campus on Grand River, Tom's is a great liquor store for Lansing. Maybe only better if it was more centrally locates. I found Tom's wehn I was looking for somebody who had a keg of anything not Anheuser on stock for a party that was happening that night. Not only did they have a few kegs on stock, the person on the phone rattled off about 12 brands before she had to get the keg list!
Since that time Tom's has increased their craft beer selection with a two or three steel-wire racks up by the counter in addition to the cooler on the back wall. 20 or so 750s sit in the cooler, plus a good selection of local and naitonally distributed micros in six packs.
About a third of the store is devoted to wine. But I don't know enough about wine to rate the selection. The liquor selection is extensive, but again I don't know enough to say if there are any great single-malt scotches, or anything else.
I haven't had reason to discuss the beer with any satff so I don't know how knowledgable they are, but most of them have seemed to be college students, and one girl had her boyfriend with her behind teh counter the whole time I was loking at beer. The older gentleman, whom I took to be Tom, seemed like he knew what I was talking about when I asked if he carried or could get a few specifics. He was more than willing to oblige.
Tom's overall is someplace I will definately frequent for beer, theres a lot left there I haven't tried yet! One of the two top stores in lansing for beer selection next to Oadies Big Ten on Clippert, and a noticeably different beer selection.
