22oz. bomber served in a snifter

A: Amber/orange body with some visible carbonation. Very nice and fluffy yellow-tinged, off-white head that reduces to a patchy but lasting film and leaves lacy lacing on the glass.

S: Citrus fruit, vague herbs and grasses over a light toasted bread. A mild bit of alcohol appeared after warming, as does a bit of dank/metaliic tint. 3.25

T: The hops produce a juicy citrus mix with lemon, orange and grapefruit notes, plus hints of pine. Subtle but good malt backbone tempers the bitterness, although it finishes with a mild hop bitterness. 3.75

M: Medium bodied; slightly sticky; low (probably too low) carbonation; smooth. The finish is slightly dry. 3.75

O: An excellent, full flavored PA. As an American IPA, it's a bit under-hopped. Still, Shiva has a tasty, well-balanced mix of citrus hops and medium-to-light roast malt that should satisfy folks who aren't hellbent on a strong hop hit.

Pours a transparent slightly cloudy amber with a small white head.

The smell is citrus hops, oranges and slightly sweet.

The taste is bitter, slightly watery, there's slight citrus and piney flavour.

The mouthfeel is very light with medium carbonation.

Overall a very average ipa, doubt I'll get it again. The flavours aren't quite where I'd hope for a citrus hop flavoured ipa.

Big off white head just sorts sits above a clear bronze highlighted colored golden beer.

A citrus and piney hops aroma is quite light with a added light soapiness and even lighter malts.

A lighter taste of citrus and piney hops with some light malts and even a very light yeast in the taste of the IPA.

A dry aftertaste with some bitterness and hops tastes remaining on this medium bodied beer.

Pretty good west coast hops taste considering this is an east coast beer, although it pales in comparison to a lot of west coast IPA's but it's nice to know the west coast IPA style's influence extends and continues to gain notice and popularity within the beer world.

Poured into ye old chilled tulip.

Appearance 4.0: Pours out a very attractive, translucent amber. Nice, 1/4" head quickly faded into swirls of foam on top. Lots of CO2 bubbles popping up all over the place.

Smell 4.0: Nice bouquet on this beer. A deep maltiness and some very restrained hop aromas. Subdued, however.

-Taste 4.5: Front is slightly sweet and is otherwise unremarkable. Middle is very nice and balanced: big malt flavors and citrusy hops along with a pronounced and nuanced alkaline hop bite. Finish is in the middle of the palate and features more alkaline hop goodness and a refreshing hit of caramel malts. Aftertaste is dry and is all alkaline hoppiness. These flavors are restrained and well-balanced, unlike some IPAs.

-Mouthfeel 4.0: Good creaminess to this beer; accentuates the enjoyment of the beer.

-Overall 4.0: Excellent IPA. This would be a wonderful session beer, but is also sophisticated enough to be an excellent accompaniment to exotic and domestic foods alike. The hoppiness of this brew is in the middle of the palate and is balanced and very well crafted. Highly recommended.

Picked up a 6 pack of cans after visiting the brew pub. It is a nice beer, but does not have the hoppiness we've come to expect from IPAs. The smell is very inviting and has some sweetness and citrus hops. The mouthfeel is not too heavy and the taste is a little less hoppy than I was expecting. Overall it is a delicious sessionable IPA.

A - Pours with one finger of white foam on top of a clear, golden body. The foam settles fairly quickly and leaves little lace on the glass.

S - Sweet malt and fruity hops with an emphasis on orange.

T - Thick malt and fruity hops up front. Notes of orange, pineapple, and toffee in the middle. Finishes with orange hops, moderate bitterness and thick malt.

M - A fairly thick body, moderate carbonation, and a sweet finish.

D - Not a great hop profile, there is a lot of fruit character but is is more orange juice than hops for some reasons. The malt is also too sweet and this leaves the beer feeling flabby and dull.

A: two finger head with nice lacing on a slightly hazy golden with a minimal amber hue body.

S: smells exactly like fresh cut/freshly juiced oranges. I get little else from this one.

T: more orange in the flavor with a very musty and earthy hop character. Little provided from the malts.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation with a fairly dry finish.

Overall: fairly simple. not a big fan of how dry this one is. Not sure if this would be one I would want on a regular basis.

Picked up a can to bring home while in Asheville a few weeks back

A - Copper with a slight haze. 2 fingers of head and nice sticky lace left all over the sides of the glass. Looks like a tasty IPA

S - Very malty and grainy. First signs of weakness in this brew, as it does not smell like an IPA

T - A malty IPA, with a slight aftertaste of grapefruit. Lots of grain

M - Well carbonated, nice mouthfeel

O - An interesting IPA, but not one that I will seek out again. Too malty, not enough hop kick

Poured into a Delirium snifter on 9/25/12

The color is caramel and amber with a haziness cast forth. One and a half finger head of white foam dissipates, leaving a layer of bubbles on top and thin rings of lace.

The hop profile isn't the most common, but I find the aromas of peach jam, tangerine and herbal hops and lemon overtones to work together in a quite appealing fashion. Cracker-like malts and hints of toasted bread.

The hops take more of an herbal turn in terms of flavor, especially at the onset. Bitter orange peel and lemon zest move in next, making for a mid-section kick. Malts are very much downplayed here; just some bread mid-sip. The finish has lingerings of dry tea leaves and a touch of bitterness.

The feel is a lively, fully carbonated medium body with prickliness and hop resin to spare.

Overall, this one is pretty darn good. It's certainly not the most common of IPAs, but this has grown on me quite a bit over several cans.
