Decent selection of craft beer a average prices for Long Island. Freshness has never been an issue here for me. Knowledgeable staff, however as I am not a "regular" here I have not found them to be particularly friendly.

I travel to Long Island a couple times a year and was looking for a place to get some goods to take back to PA. Greywulfken was kind enough to tip me off to this little gem of a beer store. Located in a small strip mall, Beer City is quite unassuming and inconspicuous. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by several friendly staff. A good bit of the store is comprised of stacks of cases and about a dozen doors to cold beer access. The rest of the store is made up of shelves of crafts and a dozen or so craft beers on tap (I am presuming for growlers). The craft bottle selection was excellent. I picked up some Union Jack, Biscotti Break, Sixpoint Global WArmer, Maine Zoe, and Noel de Calabaza(2012 issue). There were a lot of Belgians as well and prices were reasonable. The single bottle selection was a bit disorganized but if you took the time to look around, the gems can be had. A cool place with good staff and great selection. I will return

Vibe: lots of BMC crap, central floor area has stacks of stuff and free-standing displays, many of which feature craft - craft section is packed into a corner area just past the register and in the first few cooler doors; growlers in the same zone; then the craft kind of merges with the BMC stuff along the main cooler door array, and on the floor, as you go deeper into the store. Eventually, you're in the bottle returns section, which means you've gone too far...

Quality: I think they have like 15 taps - a worthwhile selection more often than not; on the floor, some unpopular beers may sit, but you'll find most current beers reasonably fresh - new beers featured on displays in front of the craft corner. Some beers have price stickers on the shelves but not all. You can freely mix and match 4 and 6 packs and buy singles.

Service: my main store for 5 years... good bunch of fellas. Mike, the manager, is a good craft guy to talk to, too.

Selection: great selection and most of the newly-released stuff finds its way here, though often in very limited quantities. Constantly expanding their offerings and bringing new brewers in - they get a respectable distribution. Update new arrivals on Facebook with some regularity.

Price: for Long Island? Typical.

I moved out of New York several years ago and I remember this place from when my dad would take me to pick up his 30 packs of Budweiser. The first time in since was a year ago, and now I make it a point to stop every time I'm in town. I was in this past weekend and had another awesome experience! growler fills, mix a six, rare bottles, super reasonable prices, very knowledgeable staff & amazingly helpful! definitely worth a stop, if you don't see what you want, ask. They do special draft releases with local breweries and suggested some great beer centric restaurants to check out. Gave the atmosphere a 4 because it's a warehouse style beer distributor but the draft system seems amazingly clean and I've never had a problem with "bad" beer.

My first beer store in NY. Coming as an outsider it was a bit of an experience.

A - This is a small place. Not it the cleanest part of town. Traffic getting there on a Saturday was more difficult that it should have been. It's nestled away in the corner of a small shopping strip. Large towering displays of macro beers are impressive (from a purely aesthetic viewpoint) On the day I went there was a local brewer, Great South Bay, giving small samples of their wares. And if you liked the sample they had their beer as well as several others available in growlers. A nice touch, and makes distribution easier for small brewers trying to grow.

Quality/Selection - I didn't look at the macro beers or that much of what they had in the fridges, but in that regard selection was adequate. As for imports and micros, they had a nice corner with up to say...100 different beers. That's a rough guess. I didn't count. I was able to find some interesting domestics, and some lovely Belgians that are not easy to come by everywhere.

Service - OK. I had a few people ask if I needed help. No one was rude a one or two people were happy to answer questions.

Price - Can't say. The Belgians were quite pricey, but a sixer of most of the domestics ran close to $8.

I was referred to Beer City by a buddy and decided to drive over and see what they had. As we all know it's diffcult to find that one place that has everything you're looking for for a decent price. Well I have to say that this place was pretty decent. It had a very nice selection and the two times that I have gone there staff have taken the time to discuss like and dislikes and point out possible different beers to try. Prices were ok and a nise selection of growlers was also available, All in all well worth the drive. Enjoy!!!

This is my go to place for beer. They have a good selection all the time. My last trip I picked up some Founders Curmuddgeon (not easy to get out here), and Southern Tier Creme Brulee stout. I noticed that their growler station had Avery Maharaja (though it was about $25), and some other really cool stuff.

They also had someone from Weyerbacher a couple of days ago promoting their pumpkin ale and other stuff.

Prices are fair, and I can always find something nice either down the aisle or in the craft beer nook. When they have the mixed 6 pack rack I am really happy.

I have not been to this store in awhile but after visiting today(friday) ill be back on monday for 30% of growler fills!! This place is huge. While there are floor to ceiling quite creative displays of macros, there are hundreds of craft and micros. They have a six line grolwer fill station, that features long islands newest breweries - Long Ireland and Greenport Harbor. The staff was very helpful. I was able to speak with one of tha managers for awhile about different IPA's they were featuring for an upcoming HOP-HEAD tasting. I was able to score some Jolly pumpkin/Nogne collaboration and Ithaca Le Bleu. Plus the prices are very reasonable - Avery $8.99 6pk, Troegs Nugg Nectar 22oz-$4.99. Overall this place was a great place to shop at. Deffinitly worth a trip to check it out - anyone can find something great here!

This place is located right off the main drag of Deer Park Avenue. The inside is a non-descript warehouse, but you're not here for the atmosphere, are you? There's an alcove of microbrews to the left that is a pretty substantial offering. They also let you mix and match sixers, which is always a nice thing. The refrigerated selection is not as in depth as the shelves, but can still stand on its own. The guy working there was helpful but not pushy. Overall this is a fine place to stop by if you're in the area.

I saw (and went) to this place on my way to pick up pool supplies and I'm glad I stopped in.
Nice selection of micro-brewed beer set away from the BMC crowd.
Very helpful staff and they let you mix sixers, 12 packs and cases with whatever you want.I like when a beer store lets you buy as many types and amount of beer as you want.
Being a NY beer store, they have the entire Southern Tier, Southampton and Blue Point line-ups and I'm working my way through them. They also have the best price ($8.99) I've found a bottle of Brooklyn Local One for.
Real good beer store!

I live right down the block from this location, and i always used to go in for my sodas, but since i have been starting to taste around with beers, i find myself going back there more and more often. their shelves are always stocked with all different types of beer. its good to go by for your traditional beers i.e. bud, coors, corona. but even better to go in there if your looking for something different. their import/micros section is always stocked with new things for me to try. what i like the most is when i go in there im asked if i need any help, and there is always cold beer on hand. i would deffinately go back there to see what seasonals, and specialties they get in.

Ah, "Beer City", sounds like the mecca of all places that are beer. The place is large with a large parking lot. It is filled with the usual suspects. 85% of this large store is filled with your domestic macros, 10% filled with your Mexican and Euro standby's, the last 5% is filled with a small "speciality nook" of American crafts and good Euro's. There is no price to be found of any of the beers, boo! MUCH can be done with their ample floor space. They could have 2 aisles of US craft beer and 2 row of Euro specialites, easily. Oh well, they have all of the popular US macros, Mexican, German Pils/Helles Lagers, Canadians, that come to your head first. They do have a little nook that has special German/Beligan/UK/US craft beer but it doesn't seem to change much. They do seem to have decent sampler packs on stock. Not a bad place, but more for your macro drinker. Friendly staff.

*Update
Beer City has done a nice job increasing their craft and import selection and they constantly get new shipments in. The changed their floor plan a bit to accomodate the increased craft selection. With the new bank the parking took a bit of a hit.

*Update +
Beer City is now supporting a 6 tap growler station, mostly stocked with New York State brews and 3 different sizes, 64oz, 32oz, and 10oz. They have also been getting some exclusive brews that the other top notch distributors get.

I was highly unimpressed with this place. It was huge- there was so much room- and it was absolutely filled with Coors, Bud, and Miller. The section of "good" beer took up maybe 1/10 of the store. And speaking of the good beer, the bottles were dusty and old, and way overpriced. Ommegang for 8 dollars? Now, I love Ommegang, but that's madness. Service was slow, things scanned wrong, and it was just too darned expensive. Though the decent beer selection was packed tight with things, and actually had a decent selection, it just wasn't good enough. If you're in the area and this is all there is, you'll find things- just be prepared to spend a lot more than you're used to on probably old beer.

This is the place to go if you need a 30 pack of Bud Light at a good price.
As far as BA standards for a place to get beer?
Eh.
I found myself in the neighborhood and decided to give the place a try.
Turned out to have a pretty decent selection. A few offerings each of Belgian, German and English brews. Saw some Fuller's Vintage ale for sale. Delirium, Sam Smiths, St. Peter's, Ayinger.. many of the usual suspects.
Not too shabby in the American brew department (Allagash, Ommegang, Victory, Stoudts, Long Trail and more) Nothing overtly exciting but certainly enough to get the job done.
Prices were on the higher side of the spectrum for things not Bud, Miller or Coors. 750mL bottles of Ommegang ran $8 and over; most six packs were around $10. Quite a few dusty bottles, quite a few bottles past expiration dates.
Trying to actually purchase stuff was a bit of a nightmare. People were buying their lotto tickets and that took quite some time. When I finally got to the register much of what I was trying to purchase hadn't been entered into their computer system, or wasn't scanning right, or was scanning as a case instead of a bottle...
I asked about the price of Rodenbach Grand Cru and the guy at the register offered Allagash Grand Cru as an alternative when I was leaning away from the $9 Rodenbach... This would indicate a lack of knowledge regarding the products being sold.
There's no need whatsoever to go out of your way to get to this place, but if you find yourself in the area it's probably the only place around that carries anything tasty.

This is a midsized macro distribution joint with a smattering of good stuff, making a half hearted attempt at being a BA worthy outfit. Tons of cases of macros fill the center of the store. They do offer a small shelving area stocked with some of the usual suspects, Brooklyn, Unibrew, Chimay,Magic hat, Mendicino, DFH (1 VARIETY), Rogue (1), Big Foot Ale, 2 types of Blue Point in growlers, You will be able to score some drinkable suds, just watch out for the some of the selections that looked moderately dusty. So so place, decent in a pinch.

A fairly large store, but unfortunately most of that space is used to house cases of macros. It has a good selection of beers, some Rogue, but no Stone or Allagash. Fresh growlers of Blue Point on sale, but not Southampton. The guy working there didn't seem overly knowledgable about beer or American breweries. Still, they stocked Duvel, Unibroue, and other great brands. Not a bad selection, but it could be a lot better. Unfortunately, for where I live, it's not going to get much better. A bit more selection would make this a great distributor, but as it is, it's decent and I'll probably return as it's the only place I know around here that sells Shakespeare Stout.
