Piece: This is a place one would expect the tools from Real World to work, much more style than substance. Great looking big barn, I heard it was a former auto repair shop. Unfortunately, it was staffed with uninterested and non-too bright help. Sample:
J-D: Do you have a sampler?
Wait-Person: Ummmmm. . . . I’ll have to check
J-D: Are you freaking kidding me, bring me the manager; I’ll have to throttle him or her!
W-P: (insipid stare).
J-D: for Christmas crackers, get me a beer.
W-P: sure we have beer.
What was eventually brought was an uninspired “beer” like substance. Bad beer, bad help, bad service, fairly good pizza. Do not believe that this is Chicago style anything, go elsewhere.

Very large establishment, mostly dark with alot of neon lights. Many TVs, noisy jukebox. Large area of tables/chairs for eating. The place appeared clean and tidy. I could see where it might be too noisy on a busy night, between the younger crowds, TVs, and jukebox. They had 5 drafts of their own and several guests drafts (3F, DFH, Bell's). They were out of 3 of their beers. There were only 3 couples in the place and we had gotten very slow service. The kitchen closed early that night, so we couldn't eat and no one knew anyplace in the area that had food. The staff was not knowledgable about their products. Serving us felt like we were imposing on them. The beer we had was tasty, but I did not feel that it was worth going that far away to get beer when there are many nicer establishments in the area with better selections. The menu items sounded good and looked reasonable in price, but again, the kitchen closed early.

Piece is a brewpub in the Bucktown area of Chicago.
They have a nice selection of brewpub standbys including a nicely-balanced double IPA. However to non-beer geeks this place is known for the pizza....and the over-abundance of flat-screened TV's. The weekend nights, and most weekday nights, the place is packed with 20-somethings eating pizza and staring at the TV's.
The beer is great, pizza is adequate, atmosphere bland, and service can get slow when with the crowds.
Go for the beer on a weekend afternoon to skip the crowds - and don't feel like you have to try the pizza.

That would some up my impression of the place. Many have hit it on the head with the + points in certain areas and (-) points in other areas. The servers were....uh....not good. They didn't seem the least bit friendly.
The selection...average at best. Great, they serve what they make, not so great that they make about 3-5 run-of-the-mill beers.
Atmosphere and crowd were OK...I didn't see the yupster element mentioned earlier. Not a destination unto itself, but a worthy stop on a Bucktown crawl.

I've been here three times in the past year and I really want to like this place, but I just can't.
The pizza is tasty and priced right, but every time I've been the beer has been worse and worse. I had a "smoked" stout tonight that had no body. It tasted like a watery porter with liquid smoke in it. The IPA was unbalanced and had no malt backbone at all. Think club soda with pine sap added. Their barleywine tasted like an old freezer or freezer burnt food. The best beer I had tonight was a guest tap. The last two times I've been here the beer was better, but not great. Their other IPAs are worth a shot and they do brew a decent smoked porter.
Service is decent, but everyone I've had talked to me like I'm twelve years old.
I don't really fit in with the crowd at this place.
Next time I'm in the mood for their pizza I'll just pick some up and pair it with some better beers I have in my fridge and skip everything else.

This was a big and busy place that seemed to really fit the neighborhood style. I wouldn't change anything about it from a business perspective, but the beer was just okay. DysfunctionAle was good, the stout OK and the hefe was nice if a little weak. I would definately go back to this place, but mostly to try more of the food. There was a very interesting sounding strong ale that was unavailable at the time that I would have liked to try. This business could not be better, but the beer could be.

The Beers were better than the pizza.
A couple of buddies and myself ordered a large pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and green peppers. We recieved a large pizza with loads of green peppers, a nearly undetectable amount of sausage, and not one piece of pepperoni.
The sevice however did make up for the mistake by offering a new pizza and gave us a pitcher of free Beer. The server apologized, and then the manager came over to appologize. So they made up for that, and I understand that shit happens anyways.
Prices were reasonable and the Beers were flavourful.
They have valet parking, which was a nice touch.

I've been to Piece two times now. I have yet to be impressed. Being located in Chicago, they had a lot to live up to. When you're competing against other brewpubs like Goose Island and Rock Bottom, you really have to step it up a notch to impress this Chicagoan. I would have to say that the food selection first of all is below par. Mainly pizza on the menu. Pizza that, again, doesn't impress this Chicagoan. But before going to this establishment, I was on the website researching which craft beers I would try. I was excited. This excitement was lost when 2 of the 3 beers I planned on trying were out. Either now out of season or they just ran out. The staff there were no help in giving suggestions when I gave an explanation of my tastes. The gentleman I was speaking with had little knowledge of the beers. Comparing that to Goose Island, a place where every staff member apparently has GREAT knowledge in their beers, Piece fell short. But the remaining beers I did have the pleasure of having were decent. But nothing extraordinary. I would definitely go back. It was not bad, but like I said, when you have strong competition in the same city, you want to either meet or beat what they are doing. Will be going again, hoping for a bit of improvement.

Stopped in here after work with a new co-worker. Walking in, there is a bar on the right hand side, with some tall top tables in the bar area, and smoe regular restaurant seating around the edges. The ceilings are very high. This place remided me a lot of a converted auto garage, which it may be. This plave really didn't have a vibe to it at all. There were quite a few TV's playing sports, with some unmemorable music playing in the background. The bartender seemed like she was having a bad day, or that she didn't really want to be there, as she was not very warm to us, and took a little while to get our order, even though we were two of three people sitting at the bar. The beer I had was good...really good. Almost good enough to negate the less than stellar feel I got from the place. To her credit, after my beer was empty, the bartender promptly asked if I wanted another, so maybe she was just distracted when we arrived. I don't know. There were about 8 beers on today, but the second one I wanted to try "was pouring all foam" according to the bartender, and I was not able to have one. I found out later that some other folks from BA were there about 10 minutes after I left, and they were able to get that same beer served to them. That made me unhappy. There were a few guest taps hanging out, but nothing to write home about. I know this sounds pretty negative. I didn't get a real good vibe while I was there. Maybe I was too early in the day to really experience what this place is about. I don't know. I will give them another chance and see what I think then, but for now, this was not what I had hoped.

A: This place has an interesting setup to it. Very much is trying to sell you on its name and beers. Walk in and on the wall is a a big display of merchandise for the brewpub. The taps are all the same piece symbol. Standard setup, tables and a big standing area in the center of the bar. What makes this place stand out to me is the offering of other choices besides the beers they brew. Allowing people to mingle and talk about the craft brews they serve and the standard beers sold in stores.
Q: Each beer came in the proper style of glass. Everything seemed clean and tidy.
S: The place kept filling up as people got off of work, but only one bartender remained. He was good, but not good enough to work alone at this time.
SE: Had a good selection of beers on tap that spanned a wide variety of styles. The food menu was relatively plain and standard. Lot of options though for the few choices presented.
F: Only ordered a pizza. Nothing special about it.
V: Not being a city boy this place was about what I would expect to pay at home. Especially for a craft brewpub with a selection like it had.
