I had this on tap into a tasting glass at Piece. The look is a little down, light brown that is pretty clear and gives off an oily sheen. Light tan head not much there to speak of. This beer starts to get special on the aroma. Tons of sweet bourbon which is just so nice and easy to take in. There is a little oak and vanilla, and a bw finish of hops. The taste is pretty much the same and just as awesome. Superb sweet bouron and oak with a hoppy finish. Nice warm finish on the beer but a little light. Not sure I could drink a ton of this but give me half a snifter and at 13% all will be alright.

Served in a snifter at Piece 4/27/07. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!
A: Served a dark garnet-red with no head and minimal lace.
S: Huge aromas of sweet malt and tropical fruit. Big boozy nose as well.
T: Pine, sweet caramel malt, tingly spice, and a hint of what tastes like Belgian yeast.
M: Sharp, bitter, prickly, sweet, and very oily. This thing coats every square inch of your mouth and tongue.
D: This barleywine is delicious but it loses points for alcohol content. The alcohol is pretty well hidden in the flavors (but not the nose) but it certainly makes its' presence felt by 3/4 of the way throught the glass. Thoroughly dangerous!

served at piece, the mooseknuckle was a dark ruby red/brown. smell was of sweet dark malts and floral, piney hops. taste was sweet upfront with huge hop bitterness giving a looong finish. this was more on the bitter side than other barleywines that i have had. mouthfeel was huge and viscous, of course. one of these was a nice warmup to a long night.

Served in a 13 oz. tulip glass, Piece Brewpub's Moose Knuckle Barley Wine is nearly a perfect example of an American-style barley wine.
Appearance is a deep red, slightly cloudy, with about a half inch of head development. Lacing is thin, but intricate, lending nicely to this brew's overall appearance. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, although both of these characteristics appear somewhat muted. Taste is exceptional. Very malty, but not at the point of being overpowering and hop presence is huge. This is a barley wine for hopheads. However, the balance achieved between the malt and hops is what sets this beer apart from other barley wines. Carbonation is good and bitterness lingers at the back of the palate for just the right amount of time. Crisp and moderately dry. Drinkability is excellent, but at 11% abv, this is a beer not to be taken lightly.
